GENERAL ELECTIONS 17th September 2005
This year a General Election will be held on 17th September 2005 to choose a
new Parliament and Government. Elections are held every three years.
The electoral system MMP (Mixed Member Proportional) allows each person
enrolled as an elector to cast two votes – one vote for your preferred Party and the
other is for the person you want to be the Member of Parliament for your
Electorate.
If you are not enrolled you can’t vote in this year’s General Election. It
is compulsory to be enrolled if you are qualified, although voting is
optional. You are qualified and must legally enroll if:
You are a New Zealand citizen or a permanent resident of New Zealand
You are 18 years old or older
You have lived in New Zealand for more than one year continuously at
some time
In order to be included on the printed roll voters must enroll by 17th August 2005. Should you miss that date you need to enroll by 5.00 pm on 16th September 2005
Now’s the time to check that you’re enrolled. The Don Stafford Room has Copies of the latest electoral rolls and also enrollment packs.
Further information is available from the Website. www.elections.org.nz or call 0800 36 76 56

"The Golden Cup"
by Marcia Willett
The latest offering by this popular author is very readable. A most enjoyable tale of an extended family living in an idyllic valley in Wales. The death of the central figure results in the unravelling of a fascinating deception that has spanned many decades.
How this falsehood affects the beautifully portrayed characters is carefully and sensitively crafted. A wonderful book that I found up to the standard of her previous novel, 'The Children's Hour'. Well worth snuggling down in front of the fire with!
"The Passion: the stories behind 125 years of Canterbury Rugby”
by Phil Gifford A most interesting sports book on Rugby. Well written and showing the depth of this province's talent. The contributors to this book write as they speak, and each has an interesting slant on this sport that so many New Zealander's follow with a passion. Easy to read, this book can be picked up and browsed through, or read from cover-to-cover. It provides the reader with a fascinating insight into the world of Rugby; the players, the fans, the supporters are all catered for. A good choice at any time of the year, but perhaps at this time more appropriate than ever!

As you are aware that the Toy Library Service is available to
ALL who is a member of the Rotorua Public Library. If you are
a Grandparent with visiting grandchildren or having friends
with children visiting, you can borrow toys from the library just
like you would a book!
If you are a parent with children aged up to 10 years you can
supplement what you have at home or try out a toy to see if
your child likes a particular toy, or save by not having to buy
expensive toys which your child may out grow or become
uninterested in after time.
If a popular toy is unavailable you can put a reserve on it.
The charges are minimal and the money goes back into
mending or buying new toys.
The Toy Library is managed and maintained by a small
committee who has a contract with the Rotorua Public
Library to manage the issuing of the toys. This allows for the
service to be available during library hours and to the wider
community with no joining fees.
The community is very appreciative for the
for the cooperation of the library making
this space for this service available.
Comments are always welcome and can
be left with the Children’s Librarian.
