Initial Implementation

ABAP System Basis ≥7 0

1. When a system is installed for the first time, a temporary license key is automatically created.

Validity: 90 days for release 7.11 or higher; 28 days for lower releases

After this period has expired, you can log on to the system with user SAP*.

2. Determine the hardware key using transaction SLICENSE . Alternatively, you can determine the hardware

key on the operating system level by using sapl ikey –get .

3. Apply for the permanent license key on SAP Service Marketplace at www.service.sap.com/licensekey

4. The permanent license key will be sent to you by email or you can download it from SAP ServiceMarketplace. Install the license key by using transaction SLICENSE , or install it on operating system level

using sapl ikey –insta l l .

Situation

Your temporary license key has expired and you cannot request a permanent license key in SAP Service

Marketplace.

What should you do?

• If you are experiencing production standstill, create a message with priority "very high" on component XX-

SER-LIKEY.

1. On the old hardware, use transaction SLICENSE to generate a temporary license key. Alternatively, use

the command Saplicense –temp on operating system level to generate the license key. You can then

also operate the new hardware for 4 weeks using this license key.

2. Determine the hardware key for the new hardware using transaction SLICENSE. Alternatively, you can

determine the hardware key on the operating system level by using sapl icense –get .

3. Request a permanent license key for the new hardware in SAP Service Marketplace at

www.service.sap.com/licensekey. This is a new license key for an existing system.

4. The permanent license key will be sent to you by email or you can download it from SAP Service

Marketplace. Install the license key using transaction SLICENSE . Alternatively, use the command

sapl icense –insta l l on operating system level.





Emergency Situations

During a Hardware Exchange

ABAP

• The temporary license key cannot be generated due to one of the following reasons: no permanent licensekey was installed; the last log-on was longer than 4 weeks ago; or the system was generated from a copy.

• Solution: Request a permanent license key on SAP Service Marketplace and install it

• If there are problems with authorizations: If you are experiencing production standstill, create a Priority

1 message on component XX-SER-LIKEY, requesting a license key that is valid for one week.

The temporary license key was created, but you forgot to request a permanent license key• Solution: Request a permanent license key in SAP Service Marketplace and install it



JAVA

•

Apply for your permanent license key on SAP Service Marketplace. You will normally receive your licensekey very soon afterwards. At the very latest, you will receive it within three working days.

Homogeneous System Copy

SAP NetWeaver AS ≥ 7.0

Create a system copy using the SAPInst installation program

1.) The target system contains a license key that is valid for 4 weeks.

2.) Request a permanent license key on SAP Service Marketplace.

3.) Install the permanent license key in the target system.

Emergency procedure if there is no temporary license key in the target system after the system has been copied

1.) Log on to the system with user SAP*

2.) Delete the invalid license key in SLICENSE, choose Delete licens e or, as of release 7.0 SP3, use sapl ikey –delete on operating system

level.

3.) Install the permanent license key that you obtained from SAP Service Marketplace: In SLICENSE, choose Instal l l icense or use sapl ikey -

instal l

Carry out the upgrade according to SAP Upgrade Guide

1.) The existing, non-digital license key remains valid.

2.) Request a permanent, digital license key on SAP Service Marketplace with the existing release.

3.) Install the permanent license key that you obtained from SAP Service Marketplace: In SLICENSE, choose Instal l l icense or

use saplikey -instal l
