INTRODUCTION
What is LifeCycle Manager for XI 3.1?• BusinessObjects LifeCycle Manager (LCM) is a web-based tool (Java
based) that enables you to move BI resources from one system to another system, without affecting the dependencies of these resources. It also enables you to manage different versions of BI resources, manage dependencies of BI resources, and roll back a promoted resource to restore the destination system to its previous state.
• The LCM tool is a plug-in for the BusinessObjects Enterprise application. You can promote a BI resource from one system to another system only if the same version of the BusinessObjects.

Known Issues & FAQ
FAQ• Is LCM supported in Edge?
• Yes. Although not packaged with Edge, you can download it and implement in conjunction with an existing Edge installation. However, the download is in the Enterprise area which you may not have access to. Contact SAP Support for help getting access to the download.
• Are Linked Universes supported?• Unless they were broken during a previous migration or other issue,
then yes – LCM identifies and supports promotion of linked universes.
• Will LCM work with IIS?• No. LCM is Java based and requires a web app server that hosts
as a java servlet container such as Tomcat, or Weblogic.
FAQ Continued…• Do our environments need to be at the same SP
level?• Yes. Separate environments should be at same SP level. Some
flexibility exists in patch level (FP, HF, etc), but problems can occur with universe/connection mappings, as well as other things if not closely mirrored.
• Can you cluster the LCM Job Server?• Installing more than one LCM Job server per CMS is not supported.
Hence, the LCM Job server cannot be clustered. There is also no need for this.
• Are DI object supported?• Currently DI objects do not reside in the CMS repository, so not
currently. However, it is said that DI objects may moved into the CMS repository in a future release of BOE.
FAQ Continued…• Does LCM support the promotion of Overloads (aka
‘Overrides’)?• Yes. If you recall this is a checkbox in the Import Wizard. You can
find more information on Overloads in the Release Notes provided with the other documentation in the LCM installation package.
• Does LCM support the promotion of Application rights (Example: InvoView, CMC, Widgets, etc)• No. Continue to use the Import Wizard to migrate application rights
if needed, or once initial promotion of group security to the destination system is accomplished (ie. to Production system), manually setup these rights.
Known Issues:• LCM v1 has a bug in displaying non-english folder names. If all your
folders are "english" then it should display in the LCM UI. The LCM SP2 patch should be able to fix this issue.
• LCM cannot promote Application Rights or Document Instances. Use the Import Wizard for this
• If a user is logged into the destination system’s Infoview or CMC (ie. Prod) - when objects are being promoted they may receive errors. Have them log out and log back in once promotion is complete or set promotions to occur in off hours to avoid this.
• When looking at the History of a job, the “Rollback” button is grayed out. You have to click “Refresh”, then select the job you wish to roll back, and the button will finally become selectable.
