TECHNICAL INFORMATION

1. Overall and wear layer thicknesses are nominal and subject to normal manufacturing variances.

2. PSI: lbs./sq. in. a) Static Load Limit per ASTM F 970

3. Subjective ratings (Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair) are in relation to other Armstrong® commercial resilient floors. Ratings are not directly related to any one test. They are broadly based on tests and experience of Armstrong R & D under varying conditions and circumstances. These ratings should NOT be used for comparison to ratings used by other manufacturers to rank their own products.

4. Reference Specifications: Armstrong products are manufactured to meet or exceed specification requirements.

5. All products meet the following Fire Test Data: a) ASTM E 648 Flooring Radiant Panel Critical Radiant Flux – 0.45 watts/cm2

or more, Class I b) ASTM E 662 Smoke Chamber Specific Optical Smoke Density – 450 or less.

Numerical flammability ratings alone may not define product performance under actual fire conditions. These ratings are provided only for use in the selection of products to meet specified limits.

NOTES:

• Numerical footnotes apply to the space requirements. • Alpha footnotes apply to the product’s suitability for the space.

The numerical and alpha footnotes are consistent across all Recommended Applications Charts in this catalog [e.g., (a) is the same footnote on the linoleum chart as it is on the vinyl chart, etc.]. Depending upon the category, product and space requirements, some footnotes may not appear on all Recommendation Charts.

(1) Aseptic Area — Hygienic conditions are of critical importance.(3) Slip Retardance — A more secure walking surface is required. (6) Not recommended in areas that require electrostatic discharge control. (a) In most cases veterinary applications are similar. (b) Only operating rooms NOT requiring conductive flooring. (e ) Armstrong floors are not recommended for commercial kitchens and commercial

food processing areas, including behind fast-food counters.(i) No standing water; walk-off mats required. In addition to spaces listed on this chart:

• Armstrong floors may be used on stair steps, risers and landings. A manufactured slip-retardant nosing should always be applied on steps.

• Armstrong floors are not recommended for exterior use, for interior spaces where pointed spike golf or track shoes will be used, or in areas where the floor will be subjected to unusually concentrated static or dynamic loads.

• Armstrong floors should not be used as wall covering or wall surfacing.

High-heeled traffic, spiked shoes, appliance feet and sharp furniture points may visibly damage wood, resilient and other floor coverings. Many appliances have rollers or sharp feet that, when dragged or pushed, can cause damage to any floor covering. Please be sure to place a piece of plywood onto the floor before moving appliances.

INSTALLATION

Job ConditionsSubfloors/underlayments shall be dry, clean and smooth. They shall be free from paint, varnish, solvents, wax, oil, existing adhesive residue or other foreign matter.

For more detailed requirements of concrete, wood and metal subfloors, as well as wood and trowelable underlayments, refer to Armstrong Guaranteed Installation Systems manual, F-5061. Calcium Chloride Tests for moisture must be conducted. Armstrong offers a guideline of a maximum acceptable moisture emission level of 5.0 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. per 24 hours. Bond Tests should also be conducted for compatibility with the substrate. When testing for alkalinity, the allowable readings for installation of Armstrong flooring are 5 to 9 on the pH scale.

Temperature shall be maintained at a minimum of 65° F (18° C) and a maximum of 100° F (38° C) for 48 hours prior to installation, during installation and 48 hours after completion. A minimum temperature of 55° F (13° C) shall be maintained thereafter. Condition all flooring materials and adhesives to room temperature at least 48 hours prior to starting installation. Protect all materials from the direct flow of heat from hot-air registers, radiators or other heating fixtures and appliances.

Procedure

ABODE must be installed using S-288 Flooring Adhesive full spread for recommended light commercial applications including military housing, assisted living, doctor’s offices, barber/beauty shops, coffee shops and property management. ABODE may also be installed using S-289 Releasable Adhesive in these same light commercial applications but only in areas with no rolling load risks. S-580 Adhesive optional in flash cove areas. Prepare seams with S-585 Seam Cleaner and apply S-570 using the S-564 Low-Gloss Seam Coating Kit. Protect seams from debris and floor traffic. Detailed instructions may be found in the Armstrong Installation/Maintenance Tip Sheet, F-8258 or at www.floorexpert.com.

RESIDENTIAL MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES

Initial Maintenance

n For 8 hours after seam application, protect the sealed seams on your flooring. This will ensure the proper seam bond. If your seams are distributed before they’re dry, permanent damage may result.

n Sweep, dust mop or vacuum thoroughly to remove all loose dust, dirt, grit and debris.

n Remove any dried adhesive residue with a clean, white cloth dampened with mineral spirits, carefully following warnings on container.

n Damp mop with a properly diluted detergent solution such as Armstrong Once ’n Done® Resilient & Ceramic Floor Cleaner.

Continuing Regular Maintenance

n Sweep, dust mop or vacuum thoroughly to remove all loose dust, dirt, grit and debris. When vacuuming, use a non-powered wand attachment to avoid damaging the floor’s surface.

n Wipe up spills as soon as possible. Remove dried spills with Armstrong New Beginning® Resilient Deep Cleaning Floor Stripper on a clean white cloth.

n Wash the floor regularly with properly diluted Armstrong Once ’n Done Resilient & Ceramic Floor Cleaner.

n Use Armstrong New Beginning Resilient Deep Cleaning Floor Stripper for ground-in dirt.

n Use Armstrong Shinekeeper® Resilient Floor Finish to restore a like-new appearance if the floor is dulled from soap-based detergents, abrasive cleaners or “mop and shine” products.

LIGHT COMMERCIAL MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES

Initial Maintenance and Preparation for Light Commercial Traffic

n Do not wet wash, machine scrub, or strip the floor for at least four days after installation. This is to prevent excess moisture from interfereing with the adhesive bond.

n Sweep, dust mop or vacuum thoroughly to remove all loose dust, dirt, grit and debris.

n Remove any dried adhesive residue with a clean, white cloth dampened with mineral spirits, carefully following warnings on container.

n Damp mop the floor with a properly diluted (pH 6 to 8) detergent solution such as Armstrong S-485 Commercial Floor Cleaner.

n If necessary machine scrub the floor with a properly diluted neutral detergent such as Armstrong S-485 Commercial Floor Cleaner and the appropriate scrubbing pad (red for light scrub, blue/green for a deep scrub) or equivalent brushes. NOTE: If the floor will be maintainted with the Polish Option, the floor must be scrubbed with a floor machine fitted with a red scrubbing pad (3M red or equal).

n Thoroughly rinse the entire floor with fresh, clean water. Remove rinse water and allow it to dry completely.

NOTE: For specific, ongoing light commercial maintenance procedures refer to the Armstrong Installation/Maintenance Tip Sheet, F-8258.

WARRANTIESArmstrong warrants its regular (first quality) light commercial vinyl sheet floors to be free from manufacturing defects and warrants the installation integrity for ten years from the date of purchase, if installed according to Armstrong Guaranteed Installation Systems manual, F-5061.
