Reader and People: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

Second Reading: Romans 1:16–32

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.” 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible at-tributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are with-out excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became

2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving * and show ourselves glad in him with psalms.

3 For the LORD is a great God * and a great King above all gods.

4 In his hand are all the depths of the earth * and the heights of the hills are his also.

5 The sea is his, for he made it, * and his hands prepared the dry land.

are almost ready to stone me.” 5 And the LORD said to Moses, “Pass on before the people, taking with you some of the elders of Israel, and take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go. 6 Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb, and you shall strike the rock, and water shall come out of it, and the people will drink.” And Moses did so, in the sight of the elders of Israel. 7 And he called the name of the place Massah and Meribah, because of the quarreling of the people of Israel, and because they tested the LORD by saying, “Is the Lord

among us or not?”

First Reading: Exodus 17:1–7

17 All the congregation of the people of Israel moved on from the wilderness of Sin by stages, according to the commandment of the LORD, and camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink. 2 Therefore the people quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water to drink.” And Moses said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the LORD?” 3 But the people thirsted there for water, and the people grumbled against Moses and said, “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?” 4 So Moses cried to the LORD, “What shall I do with this people? futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were dark-ened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resem-bling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. 24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. 26 For this rea-son God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are con-trary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural rela-tions with women and were consumed with passion for one

another, men committing shameless acts with men and

receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. 28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. 29 They were filled with all manner of unrighteous-ness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy,

murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips,

30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 foolish, faith-less, heartless, ruthless. 32 Though they know God's righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval

to those who practice them.

The Holy Gospel: John 4:5–26, 39–42

Priest: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John. People: Glory to you, Lord Christ.

The Sermon: The Rev. Mike Moffitt Following today’s service, the sermon will be available on the church website: www.lightofchristva.org

Priest: The Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to you, Lord Christ. The people sit.

5 So he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6 Jacob’swell was there; so Jesus, wearied as he was from his jour-ney, was sitting beside the well. It was about the sixth hour. 7 A woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” 8 (For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.) 9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.) 10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have giv-en you living water.” 11 The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.” 13 Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” 15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this

water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.” 16 Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.” 17 The woman answered him, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You are right in saying, ‘I have no husband’; 18 for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.” 19 The woman said to him, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.” 21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when nei-ther on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spir-it and truth.” 25 The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.” 26 Jesus said to her, “I

who speak to you am he.”

Priest: All who truly and earnestly repent of your sins, and seek to be reconciled with your neighbors, and intend to lead a new life, following the commandments of God, and walking in his holy ways: draw near with faith and make your humble confession to Almighty God.

Reader: May the [bishops and] leaders of our churches have wisdom and speak with one voice. People: Amen. Lord have mercy.

Reader: May the leaders of our country rule with righteousness. People: Amen. Lord have mercy.

Reader: May justice be our shield and defender. People: Amen. Lord have mercy.

Reader: May our military men and women, first responders, and all their families, know your loving care. People: Amen. Lord have mercy.

Reader: May the country have peace and the people be blessed. People: Amen. Lord have mercy.

Reader: May the flocks and the herds prosper, and the fish abound in our lakes. People: Amen. Lord have mercy.

Reader: May the fields be fertile and the harvest plentiful. People: Amen. Lord have mercy.

Reader: May we and our enemies turn towards peace. People: Amen. Lord have mercy.

Reader: May the love of the Father touch the lonely, the bereaved, and the suffering. People: Amen. Lord have mercy.

Reader: May the path of the world be swept of all dangers. People: Hallelujah. The Lord of mercy is with us.

The Prayers of the People

The people kneel or sit. The leader and people pray responsively.

The Nicene Creed The people stand and affirm the creed with the priest.

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, mak-er of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven and is seated at

the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Peace The people greet each other with God’s peace.

Priest: The peace of the Lord be always with you. People: And with your spirit.

Confession of Sin

Priest and People: Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name.

Priest: Almighty God our heavenly Father, who in his great mercy has promised forgiveness of sins to all those who

sincerely repent and with true faith turn to him, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. People: Amen.

There is a quiet place that gives me peace When I’m alone with you There’s a hiding place your spirit’s always there When I am confused only you can purify all this world won’t ever satisfy my heart, it cries

The Great ThanksgivingThe people remain standing.

Priest: The Lord be with you. People: And with your spirit.

Priest: Lift up your hearts. People: We lift them to the Lord.

Priest: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People: It is right to give him thanks and praise.

Priest: It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, through Jesus Christ our Lord; who on the first day overcame death and the grave, and by his glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archan-gels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:

Sanctus: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord

The Prayer of Consecration

The people kneel or sit reverently.

Priest: Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and when we had sinned against you and became subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent your only Son into the world for our salvation. In obedience to your will, he stretched out his arms upon the cross and offered himself once and for all, that by his suffering and death we might be saved. By his resurrection he broke the bonds of death, trampling Hell and Satan under his feet. As our great high priest, he ascended to your right hand in glory, that we might come with confidence before the throne of grace.

On the night that he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take, eat; this is my Body which is given for you: Do this in remembrance of me.”

Likewise, after supper, Jesus took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink this, all of you; for this is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you, and for many, for the forgiveness of sins: Whenever you drink it, do this in remembrance of me.”

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Hosanna in the highest.

Priest: We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, and we offer you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son, Jesus Christ. Sanctify us also, that we may faithfully receive this holy sacrament, and be made one body with him, so that he may dwell in us and we in him. And bring us with all your saints into the fullness of your heavenly kingdom, where we shall see our Lord face to face. All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ: By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and forever. People: Amen.

Priest: And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to pray:

Priest and People: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come; thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith:

Priest and People: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

If you are a baptized Christian, we welcome you to Holy Communion at Light of Christ Anglican Church. Both the bread and the wine are offered at Communion. You will dip the wafer into the chalice of wine. If you do not wish to receive one of the elements, please indicate by crossing your arms upon your chest.

The people come forward as invited to do so by the ushers. If you are unable to come forward, please notify an usher during Communion of your desire to receive at your seat. The Bread and the Cup are given to the communicants with these :

Eucharist Minister: The Body of Christ, the Bread of heaven. Communicant: Amen.

Eucharist Minister: The Blood of Christ, the Cup of salvation. Communicant: Amen.

Priest: The Gifts of God for the people of God. Take them in remembrance that Christ died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith, with thanksgiving.

The Breaking of the Bread The priest breaks the consecrated Bread and says

Priest: Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us; People: Therefore let us keep the feast.
