/ SoftboxeS /With two families of Creative Light Softboxes, the only limitation is your imagination. Both the Recessed Front (RF) Softboxes and the Flat Front (FF) Softboxes have a unique high-efficiency silver lining that ensures more light reaches the subject than other brands. It also reflects the light back and forth within the box itself, homogenizing it. This ensures that when the light reaches the front of the softbox, it’s completely even from edge to edge, regardless what size box is used.

All softboxes feature a removable interior, and external diffuser. When both are used, edge-to-edge light is guaranteed. When removing the a single, or all the baffles.

All Creative Light Softboxes are constructed with reinforced stitching, ensuring no light is lost through the seams. Also unique to Creative Light Softboxes is the use of all flexible steel rods rather than aluminum or fiberglass. The rigidity of steel maintains the shape of the softbox regardless of working conditions. These steel rods form the heat-resistant fabric and is perfect flash units of any power or contnuious lighting up to 500 watts.

Giving you even edge to edge lighting, and control over falloff and spill. The front diffuser is recessed from the edge of the softbox. This slight deviation from the FF softboxes profile permits the 2 inches at the end of the softbox to aid in reducing the amount of spill. Of course, if the image requires even more control a complete set of Soft Grids are available for the most popular sizes for even further lighting control.

Available in 8 sizes, the Creative Light RF softboxes are designed to meet the strict requirements of today’s top professionals.

/ SpeeDringS /Designed to hold your shoe mounted flash, monolight or strobe head. Creative light speedrings help you put our softboxes where you need them.Used to attach the Creative Light Softboxes to the light source, there are speedrings currently available for the most popular brands of electronic flash. Each speedring offers the solid aluminum softbox collar combined the individual mounting flange for your specific brand of light. When using square or rectangular softboxes, rotating the box offers additional control. However, not all brands of flash allow for this rotation form the head. Luckily, all Creative Light Speedrings offer 360 degree of rotation so regardless of which softbox you are using, or what brand of flash you are using, full control is still possible.

Finally, rods on all CL Softboxes are color coded to make assembly simple. Just match the color with the appropriate color-coded hole on the CL Speed ring. Whether you are using a square, octagonal or rectangular softbox, set up is easy.

One approach to working with a single light is as follows. Position it, then compose your subject within it. It’s similar to working with the sun. You examine where the light is most intense, where it falls off, make adjustments, and take your photo. Stop. Look. Consider. Make a decision on how to compose your image. The unique quality of light from a CL softbox gives you the power to create something dramatic.

/ refLeCtorS /Creative Light reflectors offer a simple solution instead of adding additional lights. Bouncing available light to open shadows, increase contrast or to change the direction of a light is easy with one of the two reflectors designs.

The simple, spring-loaded design pops open and instantly achieves its full size. A step up from the reflectors, the Deluxe reflector with its triangular shaped versions allow for a significant increase in the ease of handling. One corner of the Deluxe reflector has a soft padded handle making positioning and use of the reflector even simpler.

The simplicity is what-you-see-is-what-you-get. Whether the modeling light of a flash is guiding your positioning, or you are using the continuous light of the sun or hot light, you see the direction and shape of the light and how it affects the subject. You also see how the reflector surface can alter color and contrast.

Triangles have been used to support bridges for years, and this name structure is built into deluxe reflectors in order to prevent the elements from taking over.

Maximize your surface area on locaiton and minimize it during travel. The circular reflector is the standard for many years. They give you teh maximum surface area, while still being able to fold down to less than a quarter of its size. Its shape also enables for circular catch lights, which give a very natural look when used close to the face.

All Creative Light Reflectors come with a high quality, soft-sided storage case. Reflector accessory, see Reflector holder page 33.

/ umbreLLaS /The starting point of most photographers lighting toolboxes, umbrellas offer versatility and convenience in one easily portable package.

Three surfaces to choose from ensure there is a Creative Light umbrella for every need. Whether you choose white umbrellas for the smooth soft light, Silver for the higher contrast “punch,” Translucent for the direct, diffuse light or the Softbox Umbrella for its soft directional lighting effect, all Creative Light umbrellas offer the same high-quality construction putting them light years ahead of the competition.

Special alloy composites mean the frame, locking mechanism and joints are flexible enough to handle the use and abuse of the real world, while being rigid enough to hold its shape when it really counts -- on set. The universal 8 mm shaft guaranties compatibility with all brands of flash. Creative Light Umbrellas are also approved for use with continuous hot lights, up to 500 watts.

All four model Creative Light umbrellas come standard with a heavy duty, soft-sided storage case ensuring long life.

/ umbreLLa SiLver / / umbreLLa White /

Creative Light White Umbrellas offer a soft even light that can be adjusted by changing the distance between the light source and the interior surface (light design permitting). The wide, even spread of light can easily be used for everything from a single main light, to multiple white umbrellas evenly illuminating a background. Larger size CL White umbrellas offer a softer omni directional light for broader, lower contrast light.

The higher contrast of the CL Silver Umbrella provides a sharper look and feel, while also giving you a stop more light. This sharper light shows more detail and subtitle nuances in the subject’s surface while still maintaining a soft overall appearance. Since softness is determined by the size of the reflector in relation to the size of the subject, you can maintain the higher contrast of the silver umbrella and make the light softer by moving it in closer to the subject or choosing a larger size umb

The Translucent Umbrella is designed to shoot through. While most umbrellas point the light away from the subject to allow light to reflect back to the subject, the translucent umbrella works the opposite way. By positioning the back of the umbrella directly at the subject, thus light source shines in the same direction. The light can be softened by choosing a larger size translucent umbrella and sliding the shaft of the umbrella so the flash is further away from the fabric.

The Softbox Umbrellas is truly a unique lighting tool. Combining the directional quality of the umbrella, with the softness and evenness of a softbox, the Creative Light Softbox umbrella was conceived as a one step set-up solution for some of the trickiest lighting situations.

The non-removable translucent fabric covers the front of the umbrella. So as light reflects from the neutral white fabric, it passes through the translucent layer softening the light.

By using the softbox in an unconventional position, exaggerated yet stunning and artistic results can occur. This image was created by intentionally skewing customary softbox practice. The modeling light was only used to help focus attention on the subject, and its strobe was turned off. The flat front was able to reflect enough light to provide minimal fill to the subject, but this was only lit with one umbrella. Creativity with a slant

Computer-aided design allows for the reduced weight of these aluminum alloy light stands without sacrificing durability or structural integrity you expect in a professional duty light stand. By simulating use through software, key stress points are reinforced, while the center of gravity is precisely positioned, allowing these light stands to be lightweight yet offer the stability of much heavier products.

/ behinD the SCenCe / baLDomero fernenDez /Celebrity, fashion and portrait photographer Baldomero Fernandez was the first photographer in the world to use Creative Light tools. Without knowing what his direction would be once approached to do the shoot, his initial concept would prove to be an excellent application of new lighting tools. Baldomero’s plan was to showcase the theme of light. Specifically, he wanted to recreate the aurora borealis or northern lights visible from Scandinavian countries. Baldomero’s use of lighting was not only a demonstration of how the new products could be used, but also paid respect to the lineage of the brand.

During his preproduction research Baldomero came across NASA images of the aurora borealis. These photos became the reference material he used to explain the shoot to his production team.

“Light has a big part in my photos. Lighting creates mood,” says Baldomero. “I don’t necessarily use lights the way they’re supposed to be used, or designed to be used.” For example, the aurora borealis was primarily created by removing the inner baffle and outer diffuser of the new Creative Light softboxes. He then added only 50 degree softgrids. The cast shadows from the softgrids aided in creating the glowing effect on the northern lights background. He was even able to pick up small details, such as a golden glint of light on the model’s leg when wearing the white dress by having her stand on reflectors.

“ The challenge on this shoot was to create an ambient scene that’s dark and has some color at the same time, yet not washing the scene out. Keeping the model light and the background dark in a small space is not always easy.”A three-foot octa was used overhead to light the model’s face. Creative Light’s new reflector with a handle also was used extensively for fill. A five-foot octa was used from behind. The ionospheric effects were further enhanced in Photoshop by incorporating some vertical streaking.

The ability to brake down the Creative Light softboxes to just use a corner of the reflectors made these tools versatile enough to create the stunning images used in this brochure. By looking at the before and after shots, one can see the quality of light was easily established without the need to completely copy and paste in new backgrounds digitally.

“Creative Light offers a lot of flexibility. You’re able to take them apart. You don’t always want to use a softbox the way it’s meant to be used. That’s what I like about these products on this shoot. I’m able to use them in different ways than they were designed to be used. Versatility and flexibility -- you need them in tools and and that’s what you look for in tools -- something you can use in a lot of different ways.”

The aurora borealis phenomenon is an interaction between the Earth’s magnetic field and solar wind. The visually-inspiring collision of charged particles proved to be the spark Baldomero Fernandez was searching for to put his new Creative Light gear to the test. By applying new hardware in unconventional ways, this accomplished photographer achieved stellar results.
