Jeffrey Landreth, PE CEM, CPMP, BEAP, LEED® AP BD+C, O+M This presentation includes a summary of best practices for energy modeling for building system performance. The presentation will cover energy modeling for new and existing buildings focused on HVAC systems performance modeling including Best Practices and Lessons Learned. Other topics to be covered include modeling rules and protocols, software interoperability, determining the right software for the right application, understanding HVAC equipment performance and empirical performance curves, measurement and verification considerations, utility rates, and modeling strategies for new vs existing buildings and closing with the most recent work on system optimization work flows. Jeff is an energy consultant, sustainability consultant, mechanical engineer, instructor and speaker with a highly technical, yet broad background, on building performance simulation and systems analysis. His specialties include new and existing building commissioning, energy auditing and retrofit analysis, energy modeling and simulation, strategic energy advice and planning, sustainable energy assessment and master planning, mechanical/HVAC design, and controls systems design. He was employed at Arup's Los Angels office from 2006-2012 and Green Dinosaur from 2012-2013. Jeff has been an instructor and guest lecturer at the Southern California Institute of Architecture since 2008, teaching Graduate level courses in Environmental Systems, Advanced Building Systems and Design Development for MEP systems. He also has been a guest lecturer and teaching consultant to Cal Poly SLO, USC and UCLA. More recently, Jeff has been focused on developing energy optimization work flows using various combinations of production software, visual programing and energy analysis tools such as Rhino-Grasshopper-Ecotect, Rhino-Grasshopper-DIVA-Radiance/EnergyPlus, Revit-Dynamo-Vasari and with interfaces to MS Excel and Matlab-Simulink. Jeff has several relevant qualifications including a Professional Engineering license in Mechanical Engineering, a Certified Energy Manager (AEE CEM), a Building Energy Assessment Professional (ASHRAE BEAP), Commissioning Process Management Professional (ASHRAE CPMP), LEED AP for O+M and B+DC and has Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Architectural Engineering from Kansas State University.

2013 Dallas Winter Conference Report

Hello to the Region X! Here is a quick report of some of the ASHRAE Committee activities at the 2013 Dallas Winter Conference. The Grassroots Government Affairs Committee (GGAC) had their first training session in preparation for their first meeting in Denver in June. The content of training materials and number in attendance ( including Mark Bender) were impressive. Jeff Gatlin, the DRC of Region VII and the GGAC Ad Hoc Committee chair, put together a team of people to train the incoming RVC’s that was highly qualified and very informative. GGAC represents a new emphasis in ASHRAE that will have long term benefits for Society as well as our Region. The Nominating Committee came forth with the slate of new Board member as well as officers for the 2013-2014 year. The incoming Treasurer is David Underwood. The President Elect is Tom Phoenix and the President for this next year will be Bill Bahnfleth. The Board acted on many important items including the approval of new/revised standards as well as reporting on the approval of the memorandum of understanding with CAMEE (Council of American Mechanical and Electrical Engineers) and an association of HVAC engineers in Eastern Europe. I appreciate all of your efforts whether you were able to attend or not. We have a great region and I think we are all about making it stronger and more influential in the coming year. Michael
