MRS. CIOFFI’S CORNER
It is almost winter vacation! Vacation can be a great time for kids and families to relax and spend quality time together, but it can also be hard when the children get bored and adults have to work or get chores done for the holidays. Here are some ideas to help vacation go more smoothly: The local library has many resources aside from books! Check to see if they have free or reduced passes to the Aquarium or other museums. Take out some books while you are there so that you and your chil-
dren can read over vacation. Kids can help with simple cooking preparation, and definitely with cleaning up. They can play with their toys and also separate out old toys that they may want to donate. Try to keep everyone on a regular sleep schedule--this will make it easier for everyone to transition back to school when vacation is over. Have a wonderful vacation!
ACCESS TEST
Hello Everyone. I hope everyone is staying warm out there. There are a couple of topics I would like to cover this week.
1. It is so important to the health of all students at Hood to
keep your child home when they have a stomach virus. Children who have been vom-iting should not return to school for 24 hours after the vomiting stops. Even if your child feels well, he or she is still contagious and can spread the virus to classmates and staff.
2. The LPS requires an updated physical to be on file in the nurse’s office for every stu-dent. Whenever your child has their yearly physical please ask your pediatrician for a copy and send it in to the nurse. Also, if your child is to have surgery, suffers a fracture of any kind or has any other pertinent health issues please notify me. The more information I have about your child and their health, the better I can care for them when they are at school.
I wish all of you a happy and healthy holiday season and hope you enjoy your vacation.
Starting on the second week of January, Hood ELL students will begin taking a state test called ACCESS,
which measures their English proficiency. The following is the schedule for each grade:
Grades 1-5: January 10th Listening January 11th Reading Grades 3-5: January 17th & 18th Speaking
Celtics raffle tickets will be going home on Tuesday, January 2nd. Please enter for a
chance to win Celtics tickets!
CORE VALUE FOR JANUARY:
RESPECT
The Book of the Month is:
Students will learn to show respect by:
Using good manners
Treating others as you would like to be treated
Showing that you care about someone by the way you act
Parents, please make sure your child arrives to school on time and
prepared. We are hoping for 100% attendance!
