PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
2
By now I trust most of you reading this article know that I will be retiring in August after 24 years serving our Homes as President and CEO. It is hard to believe how quickly the time has passed.
I am so proud to have played a role in the wonderful work we have done during this time. The creation of the Wesley Rehabilitation Center, theestablishment of Asbury Pointe, the expansion and remodeling of the BlocherHomes, and an unbelievably successful capital campaign are several of our moresignificant accomplishments. However, the one effort that strikes to the core of my soul has been “Welcome Home.” The basic principles of honor, dignity, andempowerment that drive “Welcome Home” are the same principles that led me into
this field in the first place. I may have been the public face of “Welcome Home” but our Board and staffhave been the driving force and, to that end, I fully expect that the work we have begun will not onlycontinue but flourish.
Speaking of the future, the Board of Directors has appointed a search committee and engaged anational search firm to find my successor. The committee has been very active in identifying the skills andtraits they feel are needed as well as the challenging task of identifying candidates. It is their hope that thefinalist will be chosen in May and the successful candidate will be joining us sometime in July.
Finally, I want to thank the Board members that I have had the pleasure to serve under. Each one has been supportive, encouraging, and understanding. In my position I keep my same job but my boss changes every other year as the Board’s officer terms end. As a result, I have had a dozen or so newpersonalities and management styles to get to know over the years. Each Chair has mentored me whetherthey realized it or not and I feel much of my success is due to the skills I learned from these amazingpeople. My thanks to each of you.
Of course, the success we have experienced could never have been possible were it not for the gifted staff who worked or are working in our Homes. We are blessed as an organization to have so many passionate and skilled people who care deeply about our residents.
Working here has enabled me to have the privilege of getting to know hundreds of new “grandparents.”It has always been a joy to meet and get to know so many residents over the years. What fascinating livesthey have lived and I will miss them all.
A position like mine and the career that I have enjoyed, would never have happened without thesupport of my family. Words cannot describe how grateful I am to have a family like mine. They havealways been there for me, in good times and bad, supporting and encouraging me. So to Betty, Dave and Kate, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
May God bless you and thank you all for the kindness you have bestowed on me and I look forwardto seeing many of you in the future.
Robert R. MeissPresident/CEO
A Heartfelt Goodbye

BEECHWOOD/BLOCHER FOUNDATION

When discussing a legacy gift, many believe that it can be complicated and costly when in fact it can be assimple as signing a beneficiary form.
Bequests given via beneficiary designations are one of the most frequent types of legacy gifts given to charities. They are easy to do and do not require a will to accomplish. The donor just signs a form from their planadministrator (bank, insurance company, etc.)
Beneficiary Designations include:
Traditional IRA ✦ 401 (k) ✦ 403(b) ✦ Life Insurance policiesKeogh ✦ SEP ✦ Simple IRA and Roth Accounts
Legacy gifts have been the mainstay of our Homes. Gifts made to the Beechwood/Blocher Foundationhave enabled us to provide the best quality of care for residents today and most importantly, allows us to meetthe emerging needs of our elders in the future. If you are considering a legacy gift to our Homes and wouldlike more information on the variety of options available, please contact Cheryl Wasson, Director ofDevelopment at 716-810-7370.
