DRR MESSAGE

Dear All,

Warm Rotaract Greetings!!

I am extremely happy to note that Zone 6, ably led by Rtr PP Yuvabala is launching the 3rd issue of the quarterly newsletter titled ‘LIMELIGHT’ which attempts to bring out the projects that is being done during the 3rd quarter of the

year. Zone 6 is the only zone which has initiated the newsletter and is successfully launching its 3rd issue.

We need to use this newsletter to establish deeper connect within the team and hence I require each of you to spend sometime going through the newsletter and try to bring atleast two issues at the club level. The same can be distributed among Rotary clubs, Rotaract clubs and sponsors which will enable one and all to understand the work that is being done by Rotaractors.

I feel really happy that the support that we are getting from clubs from Zone 6, towards the district has been tremendous. Zone 6 is the only zone to timely report projects to the district and to submit the database of all the clubs.

My compliments to the ZRR Rtr Yuvabala, for the efforts to bring out this newsletter which is a worthy attempt to strengthen the internal communication within the zone. I am sure that this e-bulletin will be circulated to others also. Best wishes to the Clubs for doing worthy projects during the 44th World Rotaract Week celebrations. The focus of the district being Cleanliness, I urge clubs to create as much of awareness on cleanliness so that the general public’s civic sense could be improved.

Focus for the clubs:

Actively participate in the district programmes like Conference

Report projects on time to the district EB Team Do joint projects within and outside the zone

Lets celebrate differences and move forward in the positive direction. Do circulate this issue to your parent club and to your college management. It will be good to get testimonials from the college based faculty members so their feedback can be published in the next edition.

Lets continue to celebrate differences.

Yours truly, DRR PP Manikandan

DRRE MESSAGE

Dear Rotaractors,

My Heartiest and Warm Wishes to all my rotaract friends !

Rotaract clubs around the world are celebrating World Rotaract Week, 12-18 March, honoring the chartering of the first club in North Carolina, USA.

During the week, Rotaract clubs

are asked to partner with their

sponsor Rotary clubs to complete a service project

together, attend each other's meetings, and encourage a

nearby Rotary club to sponsor a new Rotaract club in its

area.

Rotaract enjoys a 42-year legacy. In the late 1960s,nothing

the sucess of the recently formed interact program, for

youth ages 14-18, the R.I Board realized the need to

provide adults no longer of interact age. The name

Rotaract(derived from “rotary in Action”) was selected to

show the program’s close affliation with both Rotary and

interact clubs.

I think Rotaract is a place where all people from – Different

backgrounds – Different Communities – Different Countries

get the opportunity to work, learn and enjoy together

which helps in building long term relationships of respect,

peace and mutual understanding amongst our differencec

(Backgrounds, Communities, Countries, etc) and despite the

differences. Rotaract which keeps us bonded together with

each other as we accept our differences and adjust with

each other in each aspect of life. Just like a Symphony is a

combination and blend of a voice, drums, guitars, bass,

keyboard and other musical instruments. World Rotaract

Week in celebration of that Together We Can

I wish to sincerely appreciate the laudable efforts taken by Rtr.YuvaBala ZRR and All the Clubs in this Zone 6 for making this newsletter Possible

Its high time to select your next year President. Hope you all know ADETS around the corner. Make use of this opportunity.

ZONE 6 – PILLARS EXPERIENCE

Rtr.Nivedha – President RC of Sri Kanyaka Parameshwari College:

Hi Rotaractors,

This year is my wonderful year for me because I travelled in Rotaract Life. Before sharing my experience I would like to thank my faculty co ordinator Mrs.Rajshree and my Zone mentor Rtr.Yuvabala helped them and supported us for doing a project.

Rotaract is a place where i get so many opportunities to learn & improve my skills like how to communicate with people, leadership qualities, Confidence level, how to tackle a problem, Decision making and team working. According to me Rotaract is in 5 ways i.e Professionalism, Leadership, Service, Friendship and Networking. Enjoying my Rotaract Career. Happy Rotaract Week.

Rtr.Zia – President RC of NEW College:

Dear Friends from Rotaract,

I am very happy to share my experience as a President of Rotaract club of New College. I would like to thank my faculty coordinator, seniors and my Rotaract members for their support. When I am in first year of Rotaract I won’t talk to anyone I feel very shy to talk to others but now I overcome from that and I improved my communication skills and leadership qualities. Thanks for all who given the wonderful opportunity to me. BE THE LEADERS….CHEERSSS.

Rtr.Rhea – President RC of Siddhanth:

This Rotaract year has been a challenging but yet productive year for our club! The main challenges we faced were the number of members we have in the club- we have managed to bring in a few members during

the year and have also been able to convert this into a opportunity for all members to contribute to their fullest. We have been able to do more projects and ones which we thought were not possible by a small group too. I am glad I have members who understand my ideas and share a whole host of ideas and projects. I have had all the members help me in different projects - by taking the lead and initiative to plan, get members and resources together and execute the projects. Thereby I did not always have to be in the fore front but could take the back seat and just be able to oversee the happenings. This ability of being a leader has been possible because of this opportunity. As each member no matter what their education, age and standing are equal members and it is the learning of the ability to lead amongst equals which was the key opportunity. This opportunity of being the president of my club has taught me a lot about people, about the problems millions of people in this world face, about the millions of people who have made it in life throw all hardships and so on. The list of eye openers is long and has brought about a change in my view of many things. Rtr.Ezhil – President RC of Madras Central: Warm Rotaract Greetings!!! I am very proud to be a 27th year President for Rotaract Club of Madras central 2011 & 2012. Am very happy to work with my core team and with the members in my club. Each and every project we did and we do is a collective idea of all members, there is a huge bonding and friendship. Hope this year doesn’t end so soon and I would be really very happy.

The gates to the mansion of service wide open for everyone in our club to visit, engage and enthral. We all joined together as a TEAM soley for the welfare of the society and in the process, by CELEBRATING THE DIFFERENCES!!! Fellowship through Service is the motto of the Rotaract movement and we have guaranteed all our members to have a memorable time of Rotaraction and lots of fun. We proceeded this year with themost engaging trio Project-(Phoenix, Vizhithiru and Sangarsh) and tried to deliver to the public in an even more effective and large scale. Inside college events were also conducted regularly to encourage students to kindle their hidden talents. We made our club as the best platform for the self improvement in the limelight of social service. HISTORY - WORLD ROTARACT WEEK

Every year, Rotaractors and Rotarians around the world celebrate World Rotaract Week during the week of 13 March to commemorate the founding of the first club in 1968.

World Rotaract Week is a time for celebrating the success and importance of the Rotaract program. This event is also an excellent opportunity to inform members of your community about the amazing work that Rotaract clubs do, and give them an opportunity to get involved.

Rotaract clubs and their sponsor Rotary clubs have the freedom to explore a variety of methods of participating in World Rotaract Week. Rotaractors can decide the best way for their club to celebrate the Rotaract program – completing one, two or an entire week’s worth of activities. After the club has completed its World Rotaract Week commemorative events, the sponsor Rotary club or district Rotaract chair can download a certificate of recognition for presentation to the Rotaract club.

Rotaract clubs around the world are celebrating World Rotaract Week, 8-14 March, honoring the chartering of the first club in North Carolina, USA.

During the week, Rotaract clubs are asked to partner with their sponsor Rotary clubs to complete a service project together, attend each other's meetings, and encourage a nearby Rotary club to sponsor a new Rotaract club in its area.

Rotaract enjoys a 42-year legacy. In the late 1960s, noting the success of the recently formed Interact program, for youth ages 14-18, the RI Board realized the need to provide opportunities for service, activity, and fellowship to young adults no longer of Interact age. The name Rotaract (derived from "Rotary

in Action") was selected to show the program's close affiliation with both Rotary and Interact clubs.

RI President Luther Hodges inaugurated Rotaract in 1968, with the Rotaract Club of North Charlotte becoming the first club. The club received its charter on 13 March and had 21 members.

In March 1968, the Rotaract Club of North Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, planted a tree on its campus to commemorate receiving the first Rotaract charter. Rotary Images Within a day of the first club's certification, the Rotaract Club of the University of La Salle was chartered in Tacubaya, Mexico. The Rotaract club of Secunderabad, India, was certified the following week.

Since the 1950s, many Rotary clubs had been starting unofficial clubs for young adults, fueling Rotaract’s rapid growth in its first few years. Rotaract grew from 21 clubs in 1967-68 to 289 clubs a year later. There are now more than 8,000 Rotaract clubs in 167 countries and geographical areas.

Rotaract clubs were originally open to young men and women ages 17-24. Since 1991, young adults ages 18-30 have been welcomed.

DID YOU KNOW – LINKED IN

LinkedIn is one of the most popular networking websites that is in great demand today. Although it is classified as a social networking website, it is mostly a professional networking website and is a great resource for entrepreneurs as well as job seekers alike. It is different from most other websites in the niche in this respect and has many a great corporate biggies as its members. Basic membership at LinkedIn in free of cost and it offers a detailed profile setup (this is basically a digital resume and it consists of education, skills, website links, work history and many other details) compared to any other social networking website. Networking is very important at LinkedIn and is akin to the Kevin Bacon game (six degrees). It differs in the aspect that it is highly important to a career-oriented individual. Let us what makes LinkedIn so important.

For Employers:

Employers have become smarter than before and today they do not limit themselves to posting their needs on naukri.com or monster.com. They have extended their profiles to check the candidate’s Facebook, MySpace or LinkedIn profiles before making a decision. This is the reason why profiles on social networking websites, especially personal ones should be kept private since an employer would not be highly impressed to see how much partying a candidate does. LinkedIn is very useful here since t lists all your achievements and work history in detail and presents a very professional picture to an employer. Another great benefit of LinkedIn from the point of view of a candidate is that when an employer looks at the professional connections you have it puts their mind at ease to make a decision on your behalf if your network is related to them in one way or the other.

For Jobs/Recommendations:

Making connections to people who may offer you a job is very easy at LinkedIn. Since LinkedIn has a job listing section in which the users are able to post jobs and positions, these posts also contain a

lot of information about the person posting the opening or job. This opens doors to an aspirant to look for any common connections in the network. If there is anyone a few connections away, it is very easy to ask for an introduction and connect to the person posting the job or the opening. A LinkedIn profile comes in use in two different ways here – a) A person looks for the number of connection you have and b) The number of recommendations that you have. An impressive number of connections and a few good recommendations can get you your dream opening in no time at all.

For Networking:

LinkedIn also serves as a great resource for the future since it recommends you from the past. Keeping this in mind it is always important to keep in touch and be friendly with old bosses and colleagues. This will greatly help career prospects and eve businesses. A big and growing network can help in a lot of ways, for example, it is always easy to locate openings within the network and apply rather than asking someone for a favor.

Some facts about LinkedIn that cannot be ignored

There a few facts about LinkedIn that when understood will reinforce its importance in the professional and business world. If a user can understand the importance of the following facts, there is no need to emphasize the importance of LinkedIn.

1. a. People who work at Google average 47 connections each on LinkedIn. It must be important.

2. b. Connections for a Harvard Business School graduate average at 58. Do they need LinkedIn to get a job?

3. c. Most people who are offered openings through LinkedIn have over 20 connections. In fact they get about 35 times more offers than people who have less than 5 connections.

4. d. All of the Fortune 500 companies have a representative on LinkedIn and almost all of them are represented by employees over and above the director level.

The importance of having a LinkedIn profile is more than underlined with the above facts for a career minded individual.
