This is a photograph of the limestone pavement in Malham. The diagram next to it shows the clints and grykes in the pavement. Limestone pavements are Limestone rock surfaces with slabs of rocks (clints) separated by vertical cracks also known as (grikes). These grikes have been created by chemical weathering along joints.

A Swallow Hole is an exposed limestone joint down which a surface river disappears. A swallow hole is created when the limestone pavement is worn away by chemical weathering, then a surface river flows down it.

This picture shows the Resurgence also known as spring. This is where the stream travels along the surface of the impermeable rock until it reaches the surface as a spring. Several springs can be formed along the intersection of the two rocks.

This picture shows Goredale Scar. Picture found from google images.

This picture shows Goredale Scar. Goredale Scar was carved as a meltwater channel beneath the Devensian ice-sheet. The sides of this gorge overhang quite a bit, this suggests that there once was a great cavern, the roof of which has collapsed.

There is plenty of land in the Yorkshire dales national park and so many people make use of the land.

Quarrying – this is very popular as it is a traditional industry in the Yorkshire dales. It is very popular as it is used to make some dry stone walls for the landscape and in 1994 over 4.7 million tones were being quarried. Also many jobs are involved in quarrying.

Walking- walking is very popular aswel for visitors as the views are spectacular on the moors as there are 1450km of footpaths for them to use. Also there is plenty of information and leaflets for visitors to decide which walk is best suited for them. Many people walk and walk animals such as dogs and also get some fresh air when walking in the Dales.

Holiday Homes- Many people are now buying holiday homes in the country as it is peaceful and can relax there. People are attracted to the Yorkshire Dales as there are plenty of activities to do and take part in. People would only use these holiday homes a few times a year.

Farmers- Conflict can happen with farmers because farmers object to tourists opening gates and parking where the tractors are meant to get through but carn’t because of the cars parked there. Also farmers are not best pleased when tourists drop litter and food as this can cause animals to die if they choke on plastic bags and sandwiches and bottles. This causes problems for farmers.

Quarrying- Lorries need wider roads to get through and this disturbs the local people living there because of the noise the lorries make. Also the fumes and dust that is produced by the quarrying can be dangerous for young children as it can cause respiratory problems.

Housing- Local people want cheap houses but houses are built are being used and bought as holiday homes for people who live in the city with a lot of money and so can afford those prices, this leaves the local people who cannot buy the houses they want and are restricted on what they buy as the prices have gone up for the holiday homes for people who can afford them like people who live in the city.
