Introduction
• Endangered species of the Florida Everglades.
• Does not fly beyond Florida in the United States.
Description
• Three feet in height• Brown with white spots• Looks like it is limping when it walks
Habitat
• Limpkins live in fresh water marshes, swamps, forests, and shores of rivers, lakes, and ponds in the Florida Everglades and in South America
Diet
• Limpkins eat apple snails (their favorite food) and fresh water mussels. They walk along the river banks and look for food as well as probe their bills into the mud.
Interesting Facts
• Build their nests in many different places from floating vegetation to tree branches 40 feet above the ground.

• It is most known for its unusual scream in a series of four to ten at a time at night.
Humans’ Affect
• Limpkins were hunted almost to extinction in Florida.
• Recent legal protections and future plans for wetland restoration in the greater Everglades offer substantial hope for Limpkins.
