DESCRIPTION
The timeline of Gynnya McMillen's stay at the Lincoln Village Juvenile Detention Center leading up to her last moments.TRANSCRIPT
Over the course of about 17 hours following the restraint, surveillance video shows the youth walking through the facility, interacting with staff or moving in her cell multiple times. Investigators found that the restraint played no role in the death.
A Shelbyville Police officer escorts the
youth into the intake area at Lincoln
Village Detention Center, where staff
use verbal directions in an
attempt to gain her compliance for a
search.
The restraint - After verbal
attempts, staff initiate a restraint to
conduct a mandatory search
for drugs and weapons. The
youth resists staff and is lowered to
the floor for approximately four
minutes while a search is
completed.
The youth is assisted to her feet and escorted to
her cell.
A staff member opens the cell
door and appears to be speaking with the youth. The
facility observation sheet states
that she refused
breakfast.
A staff member attempts to deliver food to the youth but exits the cell still with the food. The observation sheet states that food was again
refused.
Two staff members open the youth's door and appear to be
carrying something. The
observation sheet states that the
youth refused an afternoon snack.
A staff member gives the youth
a bottle of water.
A staff member escorts the youth out of her cell and begins the normal
process of recordkeeping and admitting her into
the facility, including health and mental
health assessments.
Last movement - A staff member looks in the cell
window while she is moving about in her bed. She appears to roll onto
her left side, and the staff member leaves the
window. The youth never changes position until
discovered the following morning.
For the next hour and 20 minutes cell
video shows the youth changing positions in bed.
A staff member opens the door and has a conversation with the youth. This is believed to be the last time staff spoke
with her.
A staff member provides a mattress
pad to the youth.
The youth is escorted back to her cell and
given a bottle of water before the cell door is
secured.
The youth is given two bottles of water
and her evening meal at the staff desk, where the
process of recordkeeping and admission in the facility continues.
The youth takes a shower and is given
fresh clothing.
