Advanced  Coding  with  Scratch  and  Coding  with  Minecra by  Tech  Stars/Computer  Explorers Thought  you  knew  all  there  was  to  know  about  Scratch?  Think  again!!  In  this  advanced  level  course,  using  Scratch,  we’ll  focus  on  advanced  game  elements:  building  mul ple  levels,  inte-­‐gra ng  animated  sequences  into  games  and  using  variables  to  keep  track  of  score,  high  score,  avatar  lives  and  game  speed.  Working  with  a  partner,  you’ll  build  mul ple  games  in-­‐cluding  a  maze  game  and  a  side  scrolling  space  shooter  game.  Time  permi ng,  you  &  your  partner  will  be  able  to  work  on  designing  an  independent  original  advanced  game  project  which  can  be  posted  online.  Don’t  worry  if  you  haven’t  tried  Scratch  before  –  we’ll  review  the  basics  at  the  start  and  help  you  dive  right  in!  The  next  level  of  our  Minecra  program  is  here!  Are  you   red  of  having  to  mine  the  “boring”  stuff?  Did  you  know  you  can  create  and  program  Minecra  ROBOTS  to  do  your  mining  for  you?  Learn  how  to  code  using  the  Minecra  ComputerCra  Mod  and  put  those  robots  to  work.  Working  with  a  partner  you’ll  start  out  programming  with  a  graphical  inter-­‐face  and  then  evolve  to  text-based  coding  as  you  learn  to  program  with  Lua.  Soon  you’ll  be  able  to  focus  on  mining  what  YOU  want!     $165    Grades  3—5

Chess  By  Chess  Scholars   No  previous  knowledge  of  chess  is  necessary.  Each  class  will  consist  of  a  fun  interac ve  teach-­‐ing  period  and  guided  prac ce   me.  Both  new  and  returning  players  are  welcome  and  will  get  to  the  next  level  under  the  guidance  of  an  expe-­‐rienced  Chess  Scholars  coach.  Children  will  have  an  opportunity  to  test  for  a  Chess  Belt®  under  a  unique  Chess  Scholars  system  pa erned  a er  mar al  arts  belts.  There  will  also  be  a  chess  compe on  with  prizes  and  a  pizza  party  at  the  end  of  the  session!   $143  Grades  K—5

Chinese  Club  by  Suyu  Liu Open  to  new  and  con nuing  students!  Students  will  be  introduced  to  Mandarin  Chinese  and  will  also  learn  about  Chinese  culture,  holidays,  and  customs.  Students  will  learn  simple  language,  songs  and  characters.  There  will  also  be  Chi-­‐nese  related  arts  and  cra s  ac vi es.     $112    Grades  K—5

Crea ve  Movement   By  Design  Dance Crea ve  Movement  is  designed  to  give  young  dancers  the  opportunity  to  explore  concept-based  movement,  allowing  them  to  u lize  and  create  their  own  personal  movement,  drawing  on  emo on,  story  and  nature.  The  students  will  delve  into  the  explora on  of  spa al  concepts,  the  use  of  energy  and  how  to  effec vely  use  movement  to  express  a  concept.   $116    Grades  K—2

Gadgets  &  Gizmos   Love  to  invent,  build  and  explore?  Well  we’ve  got  just  the  gadgets  for  you.  Join  this  class  to  take  on  a  weekly  challenge  as  a  li le  engineer.  Your  child  will  do  experiments,  build  cars,  cre-­‐ate  and  test  sailboats,  make  music  machines  and  even  invent  their  own  gadget  to  take  home.  Don’t  wait  to  sign  up.  This  class  will  fill  up  quickly!    $100      Grades  1—3

Group  Piano  for  Beginners   by  Band  for  Today Open  to  new  and  con nuing  students!  Students  will  work  in  pairs  to  learn  beginning  piano  using  keyboards  (keyboards  are  provided).  Students  will  be  grouped  into  8  children  maximum  and  will  receive  30  minutes  of  piano  instruc on  and  30  minutes  of  Homework  Help  through  Right  At  School.  It  is  recommended  that  you  have  a  keyboard  or  piano  at  home  for  prac ce.  There  is  also  a  $14  book  charge.  This  class  will  run  through  the  end  of  the  year  and  the  payments  will  be  charged  in  two  installments. $400    Grades  K—3
