2018 Student Leadership Candidates
Over the past two days, we have been privileged to hear our student
leadership candidates for 2018 describe their leadership ideals. They
presented their thoughtful speeches to all students from Years 3-6
and teachers. Boys addressed the topic – ‘Why is leadership
important?’ and girls spoke about ‘What leadership means to me’.
Congratulations to all candidates for speaking articulately and with
passion about leadership. Voting will now take place. Results will be
announced at the Week 8 assembly. We wish them all the best of
luck. We want children to remember that they don’t necessarily need
a badge to be a leader. We all can be leaders if we choose to be.
Our candidates were:
Skye B 5/6K Tom B 5G
Charlotte C 5G Luke E 5G
Annalise C 5/6D Caleb G 5/6D
Tahlia L 5A Jack G 5/6D
Laura L 5A Cameron L 5G

Maintenance and Buildings
For the rest of the term our school will be undergoing an extensive maintenance program funded by the
Department of Education as part of the backlog maintenance funding. External painting and roof repairs
on some buildings will be carried out. For this reason, you may see workmen at school on weekends
and during the week. Weather permitting, this weekend they will commence water pressure cleaning in
preparation for painting. I am looking forward to our school looking freshly painted and having new
gutters installed on some buildings.
The fence has been erected near the K-2 Toilets ready for the installation of the new demountable. This
will be in place in time for the new school year.
3G Assembly
At Tuesday’s assembly, 3G presented their artworks. They have been studying the artwork of Claude
Monet, looking at the different styles and techniques he used in his artwork. Techniques included short
brush strokes and the ‘impasto’ style which causes the eyes to blend the colours together on the
canvas, thus creating an ‘impression’ for the viewer. The students created artworks based on his ‘Water
Lilies, 1906’; ‘Japanese Bridge, 1896’ and then created some portraits that looked at the way light was
reflected off various objects outside.

Remembrance Day Assembly
On Friday we had a Remembrance Day Assembly for Years 2-6 and classroom
activities for students in Kindy and Year 1. Students were reminded of the sacrifice that
men and woman have made during war so we can live in peace. We observed one
minute’s silence, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed
conflicts. Thank you to Miss Nero, Mrs Batistich and Miss Buckle for their organisation
of the assembly and classroom activities. We also would like to recognise the students
who took part in our assembly. Thank you to Max who played The Last Post, Charles
and Charlie who laid the wreath, our 3-6 Choir, our Prefects who ran
the assembly and our Captains who represented the school at the
Roseville RSL Remembrance Day Service.
End of Year Class Parties
Please see the end of the Lindfield Lines each week for the date, time and location of end of year class
parties that will be held in either Week 9 or 10 this term.
Christmas/Festive Treats and Cards
Students are allowed to hand out Christmas/Holiday cards at the end of the year if they wish. They are to do
this in their own time e.g. before school. We do not want students bringing in bags of lollies for each other or
candy canes. This is to do with our Healthy Eating Policy at the school. We thank you for your support with
this.
Leaders Visit State Parliament
On Monday Miss Mustaca had the pleasure of
accompanying our leaders Fergus, Daniel, Lauren
and Amy to NSW State Parliament. Mr Jonathan
O’Dea, Member for Davidson, took our leaders on a
tour of the Legeslative Assembly and the Legislative
Council and then presented them with a certificate
to recognise their work as leaders. Mr O’Dea
explained how important it is to encourage others to
lead and contribute to our school and community.
Book Club
Book Club flyers went out today with our students. All orders are due back by November 25. Happy reading!
Kindergarten Project Based Learning
Kindergarten students have been very busy working on their Project Based Learning driving question of ‘How
can we as Toymakers create a toy for younger children to enjoy?’ They investigated different properties of
materials when selecting, designing and making their toys and engaged with parent helpers to bring their
design concepts to reality. Below are some pictures of their Toy Making Day.
Planning for 2018 Dear Parents and Carers We are currently planning classes and staffing for 2018. Work on Display
Anaphylaxis at Lindfield Public School At Lindfield Public School in 2017, we have a small number of children with a potentially life threatening
allergic reaction. They are found across our school from Kindergarten to Year 6.
How can parents help these children?
If possible, choose alternative sandwich spreads to peanut butter and Nutella. If
you have no alternative, inform your child that these foods can trigger an
anaphylactic reaction.
Reinforce the school’s NO FOOD SHARING message.
Library
Premier’s Reading Challenge – Gold and Platinum Awards!
Congratulations to these students who received a gold or platinum award this week! To receive a gold
award you need to complete the Challenge for four years and for platinum, seven years! That’s a lot of
books! For those students who continue to complete the Challenge from Years 3-9, they will be awarded
a medal for their efforts. Keep up the hard work!
If any students did not receive their certificate, we have noted that there has been a technical issue
where some completed records were not processed correctly by the website. Please contact your child’s
teacher librarian and we will chase up the issue.
Oliver – Current Loans
As we are now into our final weeks of borrowing, it is very important to keep on top of what books your
children have at home, especially if you are not returning in 2018. You can check which books you still
have on loan by logging into your Oliver account using your child’s school login details and click ‘Current
Loans’. Please note that borrowing will finish for the year at the end of Week 8 for K-5 and Year 6 will
become restricted to classroom use only from Week 7.

Social Justice
Books and toys for the Smith Family
Our amazing LPS teacher Miss Waters has been impressed by the work of the Smith Family and the
support they offer to families in need. The Children’s Social Justice Group have been inspired and invite
you to donate a new book or toy to disadvantaged children this Christmas.
Where? Please drop items in the office foyer box or the Canteen.
Who? The Smith Family Toy & Book Appeal hopes to collect new toys and new books to support
14,715 disadvantaged children around Australia this Christmas.
What? Please consider an appropriate item that encourages creativity or activity (no batteries or
weapons or costumes please). What would you give someone who may only receive one item this
Christmas? It is an interesting topic to brainstorm for the family. Balls? Building materials? Textas? What
are your favourite books?
Thank you for helping to make a difference!

Chess
“No matter how much time passes, no matter what takes place in the interim, there are some things we
can never assign to oblivion, memories we can never rub away.” ― Haruki Murakami
Where has this year gone? We've been so busy we are losing track of time. Anyway, before we
Obliviate!* ourselves, here are the results from our Never-Ending Lindfield Chess Tournament (10 rounds,
fascinating upsets!)
Champion - Kailash (8.5 wins)
Runner Up - Jeremy (8)
Third - Matthew (7.5 wins)
Year 6 - Kailash, Jeremy, James (7)
Year 5 - Matthew, Trent (7.5), Joshua (7.5)
Year 4 - Alex (7), Emily (6.5), Nehan (6)
Year 4 - Wyatt (5.5), Hari (5.5), Brendon (4)
Well done to all the children who took part and a special congratulations to Kailash for his remarkable
performance - he defeated 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 10th (losing to 4th and a draw to pre-tournament favorite 5th) on
his way to a well deserved win.
Coming up we have yet more chess tournaments - our A's will take part in the One Day State Finals on
the 26 November and the Girls will represent NSW (with two other teams) on December 2-3.
As an aside, our conquerors St Ives North from the weekly JCL were finally edged out at the semi-final
stage (and the final was a tie-breaker) - we were so close! Obliviate me now! Till next time, if I
remember.

What a turn out we had for our trial day on Monday! So many children are interested in
learning the violin, viola or cello and all of them had a go to see which one they liked the
sound of the most. Sometimes as parents we want our children to learn the way we learnt,
or to choose something we wanted to do, but couldn’t do. Please let your child decide this.
Obviously, there are some practicalities you may want to consider – driving a mini will not be your best
friend if you have a double bass in the boot!!! Your child will thrive more if they are doing something they
want to do, not what you want them to do.
Music Spectacular is approaching – November 24 at Killara High School. This is a compulsory
event for all students involved in strings and band. K-2 students have permission to leave once they
have performed, but Years 3-6 children must stay and support their fellow musicians and enjoy the
concert. Sarah Robinson will be emailing parents to ask for help, so please watch your inboxes and sign
up to assist.
All parents were sent a google form asking to complete an application for lessons in 2018.
Even if you are no longer learning in 2018, please email me directly so that I can remove you from the
email list.
Students who learn externally are also encouraged to complete the form as we need to know which
ensemble you are in for 2018.
Dates for this term:
1. 24/11 – ALL ENSEMBLES - Music Spectacular. Please note that this is a concert where ALL MEMBERS from ALL ENSEMBLES IN THE SCHOOL are to participate.
2. 3/12 – Christmas Concert. All ensembles to perform. There will be a party following all the performances.
3. 4/12 and 11/12 – Mozart/Amadeus/Bach/Vivaldi solo performances. Last get together of the year. 4. 5, 6, 7/12 Presentation day for Stages 1, 2, 3. Performances tbc.
