Enteringanewprofessionorevenanewcommunitycanoftenmakeyoufeellikeyouareastepbehindeveryoneelsewhenitcomestoterminology.Gettingthe“lingo”downisoftenoneofthemostdifficulttaskstomaster.Doctors,lawyers,constructionworkers,librariansandevenclerksatyourfavoritecoffeehousespeakintheirown“code.”This“PreventionLingo”bookletismeanttoassistyouindecipheringthepreventionfield’s“code.”Itcontainsmanyofthetermsandacronymsthatyouwillencounterduringyourtenureinthesubstanceabusepreventionfield.Thefirstseveralpagesofthe“PreventionLingo”bookletlistcommonlyusedacronymsyouwillbegintohearduringyourwork.TheselistswillgiveyoutheabilitytounderstandwhatCSAPisandtoknowwhomtocallwhenyouareaskedtocontactCPRD.Inadditiontotheacronyms,therearedefinitionsoftermsandphrasestohelpyoubetterunderstandthecontextinwhichyouareworking.Wehopeyouwillusethisbookletasaresourcewhileyouarestartingoutinyournewroleasasubstanceabusepreventionprovider.Manyofthegovernmentalagencies,organizationsandassociationslistedinthisguideofferusefulinformationandresourcesrelevanttopreventionists’work.
