1. Introduction1.1 What is the liniLED® Handrail?

The liniLED® Handrail is a revolutionairy LED based handrail system that provides continuous functional lighting for a safe indoor and outdoor environment. The liniLED® Handrail can be wall mounted or post mounted. By integrating the liniLED® Top LED strips (24 V DC) in the stainless steel liniLED® Handrail, the product is ideal for high-end indoor and outdoor projects in various sectors, such as: architecture, infrastructure, construction, health and the entertainment industry. The liniLED® Handrail has the same light benefits as a LED fixture: energy efficient with an expected lifetime of more than 50.000 hours. This original installation manual contains important information and is meant for the certified (handrail) installer of the liniLED® Handrail. 1.2 Symbols

Danger! Danger electric shocks! Whenever this sign is shown, the user should be aware of dangerous situations, which can cause electric shocks. Follow the safety instructions to prevent physical injuries or life-threatening situations. Warning! In some cases the user can injure himself or damage the product. The warning sign points out such damage, when the user does not follow the procedures.

Safety approvals.

Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS): product complies with the RoHS directive and eachhomogeneous material does not exceed the limits for the materials mentioned under the RoHSdirective (Pb, Hg, Cd, Cr6+, PBB and PBDE).

This product can be both IP40 and IP65 depending on the configuration and application.See the documentation for the exact IP rating.

Electrical appliance class III: this product is designed to be supplied from an extra-low voltage(≤ 60.0 V DC or ≤ 42.4 V AC).

Product is resistant against ultraviolet (UV) light or sunlight.Non-UV resistant products can degrade or discolor fast when exposed to UV light.

This product can be stored and used below 0 degrees Celsius. Verify the minimum storage andoperation temperature in the datasheet for the lowest temperature allowed.

Product can be cleaned with normal cleaning agents as specified in the datasheet under‘chemical compliances’.

This product needs to be disposed of separately from normal household waste so it can be recycled.

2. Precautions and safety instructionsGeneral

Note! The manufacturer presumes that the product is used and maintained as prescribed, to retain the safety of the user. To secure the safety and reliability of the product, it is important to read this instruction manual and the safety instructions before installing the product! This applies to everyone who is involved during the installation process of the liniLED® Handrail. All instructions in this document should be understood: the responsibility of this lies with the person who is in charge of the installation!

Warning! It is of great importance that the product is installed by a licensed installer. In case the product is not installed by a licensed installer, the warranty of the product will not apply!

Usage Note! The liniLED® Handrail is meant as illuminated handrail and/or railing for indoor and outdoor

areas. The liniLED® Handrail contains liniLED® LED strips to illuminate the floor in benefit of the user. All other intended usage than descriped above, is seen as unintended usage. Organic Lighting Systems can not be held responsible for damage, as the result of inappropriate usage and/or mounting of the product.

Note! General and local construction-, safety- and installation regulations should be respected. Organic Lighting Systems can not be held responsible if regulations are not followed.

Indoor installation

Danger! Always ensure that the power is off before starting the installation process (with this product)!

Danger! Never connect the product directly to more than 24 V DC!

Note! When powered, the product (or its components) has an electrical voltage of 24 V DC!

Warning! Always use the 24 V DC power supplies which are supplied by the manufacturer when connecting the product!

Indoor or outdoor installation in a non corrosion resistant environment

Warning! In case the liniLED® Handrail is being installed in a humid or non corrosion resistant indoor or outdoor environment, make sure the liniLED® Handrail IP65 housing is being used. The liniLED® Handrail IP65 housing should be placed at the individual connectors and the liniLED® End Caps of the liniLED® LED strips to ensure moisture protection.

4. Installation Danger! Turn off the power before starting the installation!

This chapter is described in the correct installation order: we advise you to follow this order.

4.1 What do I have to prepare for the installation?

1 Check if the power supplies are in the correct positions and if there are enough power supplies.

Correct positions power supplies:

Deco: connector every 66 ft.

Power: connector every 33 ft.

HP: connector every 33 ft.

Note! All electricity points should supply 24 V DC.

2 During the placement of long lengths, take into account the expansion joints of the constructions, buildings or surface on which or against the liniLED® Handrail is mounted.

Determine whether there are expansion joints in the wall or floor. The handrail needs to end at an expansion joint, to prevent any pressure on the liniLED® LED strip and possible damage. See chapter 4.2.3 Expansion joint for more information.

3 Cut the stainless steel handrail in the correct length.

In case you don´t need to connect intermediate handrails, or if the rails are supplied with the profile pre-installed, you can skip step 4; But read it to understand the system.

4 To be able to place the supports in the profile, a space is needed in the intermediate handrail liniLED® mounting profile.

Note! Because 1 3/4” of the aluminum profile is missing in this position, it is not possible to mount a support where the gap occurs.

A. Determine where the gap will not interfere with a support before cutting and installing the self-adhesive backed profile in the rail.

B. Cut a piece of 1 3/4” +/- 1/16” of the disassembled aluminum profile.

This step is essential to create space to place the clamp of the stainless steel adapter. Chapter 4.4.1, step 3.

C. Remove the adhesive backing and mount the aluminum mounting profile in position, starting at the gap.

4.2 Connecting the handrails

The handrails can be connected in two ways, by gluing or by welding.

4.2.1 Gluing

1 Degrease the contact surfaces (A). Apply the glue on the contact surface (A) of the coupler.

2 Place the coupler in the stainless steel handrail, which you would like to extend.

3 Slide the second handrail on the other side of the coupler.

Are there expansion joints present?

Yes Go to paragraph 4.2.3. No Go to chapter 4.3.

4.2.2 Welding

1 Place the coupler in the stainless steel handrail, which you would like to extend.

2 Slide the second handrail on the other side of the coupler. Weld the parts together.

Temperature influences

In case of large temperature fluctuations, expansion and retraction of the LED strip and lens should be taken into account. The expansion and contraction of the lens in the longitudinal direction of at least 1/4” at a length of up to 5’. Provide a clearance of 1/8” on both sides so this can be absorbed.

4.2.3 Expansion joint

To prevent possible pressure and damage on the liniLED® Top LED strip, the handrail needs to end at an expansion joint. The handrail can end with a coupler (step 1 and 2) or with end caps (step 3).

For more information about placing/interrupting the LED strip, see chapter 4.3.

1 Apply the glue on one side of the coupler. Place the coupler between the two handrails.

2 Make sure there is enough space between the handrail and the coupler, to deal with possible expansion and shrink by change in temperature of the construction.

4.3 Placing the liniLED® Top LED strips

There are several methods to place the liniLED® Top LED strips. Which method you should choose, depends on the environment (indoor or outdoor) and whether the handrails are glued or welded. In the following chapters four methodes are described.

4.3.1 Method 1: Indoor and gluing

Follow the steps below if the handrails need to be glued and the liniLED® Handrail will be installed indoor.

1 Gently insert the connector in the hollow chamber of the liniLED® Top LED strip.

Note! The arrow on the connector needs to be placed in the same direction as the arrow on the liniLED® Top LED strip.

2 Gently push the liniLED® Top LED strip into the aluminum profile.

Start from the position where you placed the connector.

Note! Maximum connection length of the liniLED® Top LED strips:

3 Determine where to cut the liniLED® Top LED strip. This needs to be as close as possible before the end of the adapter or the end of the handrail.

4.3.2 Method 2: Indoor and welding

Follow the steps below if the handrails need to be welded and the liniLED® Handrail will be installed indoor.

2 Gently insert the first IP65 connector in the hollow chamber of the liniLED® LED strip.

Note! The arrow on the connector should be in the same direction as the arrow on the liniLED® Top LED strip.

3 Place the connector and liniLED® Top LED strip in the IP65 housing, so that the gel expands (do not remove any gel).

4.3.3 Method 3: Outdoor and gluing

Follow the steps below if the handrails need to be glued and the liniLED® Handrail will be installed outdoor. For this step you will need two IP65 connector sets which contain a waterproof gel.

1 Before placing the liniLED® LED strip in the IP65 connector set, you first need to remove the dams (A) from the bottom and top of the IP65 connector set. Use a sharp knife and cut the sides.

4 Push the cap of the IP65 housing on the bottom until you hear a ‘click’. This may require adjustable jaw pliers to exert the pressure. Take care not to damage the plastic housing at all. (Do not remove excess gel.)

5 Before you can place the liniLED® Top LED strip, the aluminum profile needs to be cut first to leave a 2 5/8” space for the connector.

If pre-installed profile is in the rail, there will be a 2 5/8” gap, with a special connector profile already installed. (If field cutting rail, do not cut at this end.)

6 Cut 2 5/8” off the beginning of the aluminum mounting profile.

In case you want to add a wall support or ballusteradapter afterwards, execute the same steps as for an intermediate handrail. See paragraph 4.1 step 4 for more information.

7 If field installing liniLED® mounting profile, remove the self-adhesive backing and install with the 2 5/8” gap. Install the special liniLED® IP65 connector support profile supplied.Replace the aluminum mounting profile and tighten with the hex screws.

8 Push the IP65 housing in the aluminum profile until you hear ‘click’. Start from the beginning of the handrail.

9 Gently push the liniLED® Top LED strip in the aluminum profile.

Start from the position where you have placed the IP65 connector set.

10 Determine where to cut the liniLED® Top LED strip. This needs to be as close as possible before the end of the adapter or the end of the handrail.

19 Push the IP65 housing on the aluminum basic profile until you hear a ‘click’. The liniLED® Handrail is now IP65. Do you have more handrails where you need to place the liniLED® Top LED strip? Repeat steps 1-19.

4 Push the cover on the IP65 housing until you hear a ‘click’.

2 Gently insert the connector of the first IP65 connector set in the hollow chamber of the liniLED® Top LED strip.

4.3.4 Method 4: Outdoor and welding

Follow steps below in case the handrails need to be welded and the liniLED® Handrail will be installed outdoor. For this step you will need two IP65 connector sets.

4.4 How do I place the handrail supports and/or post adapters in the handrail?

This chapter explains how to insert the handrail supports and post adapters in the handrail, which must take place after inserting the liniLED® strip.

4.4.1 Mounting the adapter on the aluminum profile

We recommend placing one adapter per 4’ to 5’5.

1 Remove the clamp by loosening the hex bolt using an Metric Allen Key No. 5.

2 Remove the clamp from the stainless steel wall support.

3 Place the clamp on the aluminum profile and slide the adapter to the desired position. Is the adapter the transit to your power supply?

Yes: go to step 4. No: Go to step 5.

4 Pull the wires through the clip first and then through the axes of the stainless steel handrail carrier.

5 Turn the hex bolt clockwise, using an Metric Allen Key No. 5 to fix the handrail support to the aluminum profile. Connect the cables to the connection from the wall.

4.4.2 Placing the post adapter

1 Remove the clamp from the post adapter.

2 Slide the clamp of the post adapter over the aluminum mounting profile of the handrail.

Slide the clamp to the desired position.

Is the post adapter a transit to your power supply?

Yes: go to step 3. No: skip step 4.

3 Pull the cables through the clamp first and then through the post adapter.

4 Fix the post adapter onto the clamp.

To tighten the clamp, turn the hex bolts in the post adapter clockwise using an Metric Allen Key No. 4.

Note! The clamp can twist up to 55° to one side. Verify if the angle post adapter can reach the correct angle prior to fixing it.

5 If the handrail is tilted, rotate the support of the liniLED® Handrail.

Turn the hex bolt counterclockwise (1). Rotate the clamp (2) and tighten the hex bolt clockwise again.

4.5 Finishing

This section tells you more about the finishing installation of the liniLED® Handrail and the (last) steps to be taken.

4.5.1 How do I install the end cap?

1 Degrease the end cap before applying glue on the contact surface (A).

2 Insert the end cap into the end of the handrail.

4.5.3 How do I insert the lens?

1 Secure the liniLED® LED strips by using the lens.

Close the open spaces between handrail supports with a lens cover. Cut the lens to the right size and push them over the aluminum mounting profile.

4.5.2 How do I place the plastic transition profile?

1 When the liniLED® Handrail merges into around tube or an adjustable post angle, you can finish it with a plastic transition profile.

Press this transition profile on thealuminum profile. You will hear a ‘click’.

5. Maintenance Danger! Always disconnect the product before carrying out any work.

1 Check the functioning of the liniLED® LED strips and the fixation of the handrail brackets and/or balluster adapters once a year.

2 Clean the stainless steel parts of the handrail with appropriate cleaning product, such as the liniLED® Stainless Steel Cleaner.

Clean the covers regularly with a dry and/or damp clean cloth.

Avoid excess water and abrasives, abrasive cleaners, bleach or solvent products to clean the liniLED® Handrail.

6. Environment and wasteThe symbol on the material, its accessories or packaging indicates that this product may not be treated as household waste. Dispose of the material through the waste recycling of electrical and electronic equipment within the EU and in other European countries that have separate collection systems for used electrical and electronic equipment. By disposing the material properly, you will help prevent potential hazards to the environment and public health that otherwise would be

7. WarrantyIf, within two years after the acquisition of the liniLED® Handrail, production or material errors occur, Organic Lighting Systems will, at its discretion, repair or replace the product for free. Please note!

• A warranty period of 2 years applies solely for production and material failures of the liniLED® parts (not on the installation, e.g. assembly and disassembly) from the date of delivery, provided that all components are used as intended. On all other parts, a warranty period of 1 year applies. • Damage caused by negligence, abnormal use or improper handling and/or cleaning of the product, are not covered by the warranty. • The installation has to be done by a licensed (handrail)installer with full knowledge of electro technical installations and luminaires. The installation has to be done according to all applicable rules and guidelines. The licensed (handrail)installer has to have full knowledge of handrail and balustrade installations and all applicable rules and regulations. This also applies to the full knowledge and responsibility of the (handrail)installer regarding local climatological and constructional circumstances of the specific project. • Installation of the liniLED® Handrail should be performed according to local regulations and law. This responsibility lies fully with the (handrail)installer. • A complaint under warranty, must be lodged with us immediately in detail and writing (in any event within 10 working days, after a defect has arisen).

• Products in respect of which a claim is lodged under warranty, must not be sent to us before consulted with Organic Lighting Systems. If we supply new products to comply with our warranty obligation, the product which was originally supplied remains or becomes our property. All the provisions of these terms and conditions are applicable to the new supplied products. • Defects that are the consequence of defective maintenance or of improper, abnormal or inappropriate use, are not covered by the warranty.

• In the event of changes (incl. repairs), that are carried out without our consent in writing and where parts other than those supplied by us are used, any claim to warranty shall lapse. If our customer fails to fulfill any obligation under the agreement concluded with it, fails to do so properly or fails to do so on time, the warranty relating to this agreement lapses.

• In no event is Organic Lighting Systems liable for consequential damages and Organic Lighting Systems cannot be held liable for any (consequential) damages caused by unintentional, incorrect or unreasonable use.

This warranty applies for all deliveries in combination with our General Terms and Conditions.
