Making A Difference: Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect
Trainer: Shannon Baldwin, Tracey Barker, Jesse Robinson, Amy Willis
This comprehensive training is for all mandated reporters of suspected child abuse and neglect and will focus on the following: Identifying the signs of abuse and neglect; discussing who must report, as well as how a report is made; and identifying research-based protective factors that can help prevent child maltreatment.
The Multiple Household Shuffle
Trainer: Shannon Baldwin
This training will look at the effects of shared caregiving on children and the importance of helping them feel secure when their routines may feel chaotic. We will focus heavily on the roles and impact of routines and relationships.
Teamwork: Let’s Work Together!
Trainer: Amy Willis
This training will discuss teamwork at work, why it is important, what a good team member is and how to go from being a good team member to a great team member. It will also get
colleagues interacting with one another by having them work together as a team. In doing so, they will learn some things about their co-workers they may not have known prior to
this training.
Building Environments & Activities to Engage Children
Trainer: Amy Willis
This training will help teachers understand how certain aspects of an early childhood classroom confine children’s minds, bodies, and souls. Teachers will learn to identify these
structures in their own classrooms. Teachers will also develop tools to build environments and activities that engage children on all levels.
Building Relationships with Families and Children
Trainer: Shannon Baldwin
In this training, we will discuss the importance and long-lasting effects of building relationships with children and families. We will identify strategies for building positive relationships and discuss how doing so can positively impact and influence both the educational and home environments.
Planning Your Professional Growth
Trainer: Jessica Wilcoxon
This training focuses on professional growth of early education providers and how to identify goals for the future.
Sensory Play: Let’s Have Some
Fun!!
Trainer: Tracey Barker
This training dives into how sensory play is needed in the classroom for infants and toddlers. Not only will you enjoy some sensory activities, you will become familiar with how sensory play helps the child's development within brain growth, motor skills, creativity, social-emotional skills, and problem solving skills! **Please note: There will be different smells, sounds, and textures with this session. Please email me if you have any allergies or issues before class so that accommodations can be made.
Understanding Infant and Toddler Behaviors: WHY DO THEY DO
THE THINGS THEY DO?
Trainer: Tracey Barker
This training will dive in to the five possible causes for behavior with infants and toddlers. Participants working with the infant and toddler age group will reflect on different aspects of behaviors and reactions to those behaviors. We will look at social emotional development and examine the importance of adapting to the child and their cues.
West Virginia Early Learning Standards Framework Infant
Toddler I/T
TRAINER: Paula Stewart
This training provides an overview of the WV Early Learning Standards Framework for
Infants/Toddlers. Participants working with the infant/toddler age group will discover why
standards are used in everyday life. An in-depth examination of the document will allow
participants to become familiar with the layout and the how and why of using it with young
children and will include lesson plans.
Acknowledge, Ask and Adapt: Working with Parents on Difficult
Issues
Trainer: Paula Stewart
In this training we will discuss how to use a strategy process called Acknowledge, Ask, and
Adapt. This strategy helps you communicate and understand the reasons behind the beliefs,
values, and behaviors of the families in addition to responding in culturally sensitive ways.
We will talk about ways caregivers can help parents by easing concerns about their child in
child care and how you as the caregiver can better relate to parents in moments of
frustration.

Congratulations to Family Child Care Home Provider Rose Wooten
for obtaining Tier II Status!!
If you are interested in advancing your program to a Tier II Status please contact: Jessica Wilcoxon Quality Improvement Specialist Link Child Care Resource and Referral 304-523-9540 ext. 3473 [email protected]
I have been a child care home provider for 27 years. Many things have happened. I lived in Kenova (town) and had a big playroom for all my educational things. I have always done a curriculum. First I became State registered, then the food program, Birth to Three, and other services. At first, I didn’t like the food program due to all the paperwork, but later realized it’s money in my pocket. It’s worth it. Then ACDS (the best 2 years of my business). Then a friend said you need to be Tier II. I said, “no, too much paperwork!” But my friends Tammy Eubank, Lorna Adkins, and Karen Workman said you are already doing it, just needs to be on paper. So, Melisa Dennison said contact Jessica Wilcoxon, she will help you. And again I must say, please listen to me, more money in your pocket and the paperwork isn’t bad. It’s what you do every day. Get your notebook ready with sleeves and tabs and ask for help how to set it up. Best thing I have ever done! After 5 years I’m Tier II with children who receive subsidy. More to come... I promise you. I’s ok and sure worth it all. Enjoy and good luck. It’s worth it.
