• In 1694, King William III allowed to power because he gave control of the money to private European bankers.

• BoE allowed private banking to create and loan the government money to be re-paid (by the taxpayers) with interest.

• BoE created the first permanent federal loan with only the interest re-paid (first National Debt).

Fractional Reserve Banking• Early goldsmiths lent out more paper receipts than

the amount of gold and silver (commodity money) kept in their vaults.
