Self Directed Learning

• Focus on the learner rather than the teacher• Integrates self management with self monitoring• Control gradually shifts from teachers to learners.

Learners exercise a great deal of independence in setting learning goals• Teacher models learning strategies and works with

students so that they develop the ability to use them on their own

Teacher’s Role

• Sets positive, high expectations• Keeps students on task• Facilitates learning activities• Presents carefully chosen examples and samples to

guide students as they form their own understanding • Utilizes different types of CFUs and questioning• advocate greater tolerance of uncertainty and

encourage risk-taking, and capitalizing on learners' strong points instead of focusing on weaknesses
