Discussion Topics
Experience with formally adopting or accepting the regional
ITS architecture tying together the planning process and
regional ITS architecture development how the regional ITS architecture and the
planning process can help each other maintaining and updating the regional ITS
architecture

Regional ITS Architecture’s Connection to the Transportation Planning Process
Development of the Regional ITS Architecture is in conjunction with the formal transportation planning process
Integrating the RA with the planning process is key to meeting the intent of the FHWA Rule and FTA Policy
Local stakeholders must decide how to bring both processes together to best serve the region

Strengthening the Regional ITS Architecture Connection to Planning in Your Region
Formally adopt your Regional ITS Architecture
Ensure that architecture and integration issues have a place in transportation planning committees or task forces
Ensure that the Regional ITS Architecture is considered in planning studies
Maintain and use your Regional ITS Architecture
![Page 15: Linking the Regional ITS Architecture and the Transportation Planning Process ITS Professional Capacity Building Program T3 Session September 29, 2005](https://reader030.vdocument.in/reader030/viewer/2022032606/56649eac5503460f94bb3155/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)

Summary
There is a mutually beneficial relationship between transportation planning and RA development and use
Relating the Regional ITS Architecture to transportation planning has institutional, cooperative, integration and cost benefits
Each planning process is slightly different, so stakeholders must determine the best fit of Regional ITS Architecture components to their process
