Befrienders needed for Praxis Care - Young People Leaving Care Project.

This is a befriending service specifically targeted at young people leaving the care system, who may have associated emotional/mental health support needs.

After an initial interview and training volunteers are matched with a young person. The focus is very much on social activities as this builds up confidence and raises self esteem. It also means the time spent with the young person, whilst being supportive, is fun and enjoyed by both.

If interested contact Janet directly on 028 9446 0695

or

If you are interested in this opportunity or would like more information please get in touch. This is a great opportunity to meet people and give back to the community.

Cookstown and Magherafelt Volunteer Centre hosted two recent events in partnership with the NHSCT Day Opportunity Team. In January Day Opportunities clients took part in an eight week drama programme. The CMAC Academy provided an Introduction to Drama with the aim to boost confidence, enhance communication skills and encourage creativity with particular consideration given to the development of basic life skills and the avoidance of social isolation. Funding for the programme came from the Public Health Agency through Cookstown and Western Shores Area Network

During March we held three 2hr sessions of Jumping Clay. Service users, volunteers and staff from The Bases in Cookstown and Magherafelt took part over a three week period. Everyone had a great time. Also a BIG thank you to our Duke of Edinburgh volunteers Megan, Alex, Lauren, Elle and Katie from The Rainey Endowed for helping the Base in Magherafelt with their recent art projects.
