Vincent's Charity Shop Magherafelt urgently need volunteers.

Vincent’s shops are a very important aspect of the service St Vincent de Paul provides. Not only do they provide people with new and slightly worn items at affordable prices, they also provide an income source for the Society, which is recycled directly back into the community.

The shops are managed by a small number of staff, assisted by a large number of volunteers and community employment trainees. The profits generated from the shops, some of which also supply furniture, are recycled into local communities to support those in need.

The Base – Magherafelt General Volunteer Helpers and Activity Volunteers

18+ The primary function of the Base is to maintain friendships and/or develop new friendships. It acts as a base for leisure and social activities within the local community for adults with learning disabilities. The Base aims to have a team of volunteers to complement and support the work of the Base co-ordinator. Volunteers assist the individuals of the Base to engage in weekly activities such as leisure, crafts and sporting activities.

The promotion of opportunities, in the heart of the local community, for adults with a learning disability

Charity Shop Magherafelt

15+

Are you a rummager with a flair for finding hidden treasure? Have a keen eye for a bargain? Come be a volunteer in our shop! The British Red Cross help people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. They are part of a global voluntary network, responding to conflicts, natural disasters and individual emergencies. They enable vulnerable people in the UK and abroad to prepare for and withstand emergencies in their own communities. And when the crisis is over, they help them to recover and move on with their lives. The Magherafelt charity shop is in urgent need for volunteers. You will be providing invaluable help with the running of the shop, keeping it stocked and attractively displayed. You can get involved as much or as little as you like by: sorting out stock; putting your own stamp on the shop displays; getting EPOS-trained in order to serve customers at the till. You even get a 20% discount on donated goods. Being part of a huge fundraising effort is very motivating as you provide the best service possible by representing the British Red Cross in order to offer a great retail space to the local community and raise as much money as possible for the organisation. Duties include: Serving customers, taking cash and providing good all-round customer

service Unpacking and pricing stock Working on window and shop displays Keeping the shop tidy, clean and well organised Interacting with the general public British Red Cross value the energy and enthusiasm that young people bring to this role. Anyone can volunteer with the Red Cross from the age of 15.

Health Promotion Awareness Volunteers

Bowel Cancer UK is currently recruiting volunteers to help raise awareness of bowel cancer.

In Northern Ireland, more than 1,000 people are diagnosed with bowel cancer each

year. It’s the country’s second biggest cancer killer, but it shouldn’t be. Bowel cancer

is very treatable especially if diagnosed at an early stage. Bowel Cancer UK is

determined to save lives and improve the quality of life for all those affected. We

want to make sure everyone knows about the disease, recognises the symptoms and

knows what to do next.

Our volunteers deliver bowel cancer awareness talks to groups within local

communities and workplaces. The aim of these talks is to bring facts and figures about

bowel cancer to people's attention, help them understand the symptoms, and over-

come barriers to seeing the GP, and therefore getting diagnosed early. We believe that

people with experience of bowel cancer, either personally or through a family

member or friend, are uniquely equipped to raise awareness and deliver these talks.

Awareness volunteers can be located anywhere and are people of all ages. All we ask

from you is your commitment to help at one event per month. A full day's training is

given with plenty of time to practice giving the presentation, and volunteers are

supported throughout their time with the charity. You must be willing to speak in pub-

lic.

Our next volunteer training is Saturday 23 April in Lisburn.

Befrienders needed for Praxis Care - Young People Leaving Care Project.

This is a befriending service specifically targeted at young people leaving the care system, who may have associated emotional/mental health support needs.

After an initial interview and training volunteers are matched with a young person. The focus is very much on social activities as this builds up confidence and raises self esteem. It also means the time spent with the young person, whilst being supportive, is fun and enjoyed by both.
