THE DUCHESS

In both the trailer and the film poster, they both link, this is due to the exam0ple above of the trailer; they both have the gold tones and have kept this consistent throughout, this shows the clear link. The fact that in the trailer she is wearing the same dress as the film poster, shows that they’re marketing campaign is strong as they’ve kept the trailer as realistic as the poster, to be true to that. Period dramas are not usually placed onto film magazine front covers, so regarding The Duchess and its relationship to its magazine front cover; this does not apply.

THE YOUNG VICTORIA

The Young Victoria is all based on a true story as this is known throughout the trailer and film itself. The selling point for the film poster is probably how close up the image is and the fact that the image is so nicely placed, Victoria is directly looking the audience in the eyes which is a selling point as its drawing the audience in to watch the film. Yet again The Young Victoria does not apply for the film magazine front cover as most period dramas are not shown on them.

SHERLOCK HOLMES

Sherlock Holmes is the only period dramas to challenge the conventions of not being on a magazine front cover. All three of these enhance the film itself and draw the audience in, this is due to the colours used throughout, for example the use of the strong blues. Also the fact that they’ve used the main character “Sherlock” and positioned him facing forwards and directly into the camera, draws the audience in and sells the film faster than if he was looking away.
