There was a giant formation that had the appearance of an alligator. There are over 100 names for this formation.

Interesting facts and history.Linville Caverns was first discovered by two local fisherman. Linville Caverns is open seven days a week. It is inside of the humpback mountains. It is open for public touring. Linville Caverns was first discovered in 1822. Bat’s hibernate in the caverns. They still remain active making new formations all the time. This cavern is the only cavern in North Carolina. It is a very beautiful place.

Could Be Tragedy

There were two teenagers that went to Linville Caverns and didn’t tell anyone where they were going. They brought a lantern and they decided to let the clumsy one carry it. He dropped it into the water and they couldn’t even see their hand in front of their face. They decided to follow the water. It took them two days to get out. Luckily they didn’t die.

Cavern Formations

There are many stalactites and stalagmites in the caverns. They are formed from water dropping filled with sediment that solidifies where it hits. They are very colorful… green and orange with a slimy appearance. It feels slimy to the touch.
