Lion, what’s the time?
Aims: Consolidation of the time vocabulary and animation
Time: 10-20 min
Material: nothing
Premises: The children know the vocabulary of the topic time.
Procedure: The children are building a circle. One child is standing in the middle. He/she
is the lion. The children forming the circle are walking round him/her and ask:
“Lion, what time is it?” The lion answers for example: “It’s 3 o’clock!”. Then
the children ask again: “Lion, what time is it?” and the lion answers again:
“It’s 5 o’clock!”. So it goes on and on. But suddenly the lion says: “Time for
dinner!”. All the children have to run away as quickly as they can. And the lion
has to try to catch them. The child who has been caught first is the new lion
and the game goes on.
Introduction: Children please build a circle over here. Susan you are the lion. Please come
into the middle of the circle. All the other children are walking around you
now. Start walking. Now they ask: “Lion, what time is it?” Ask Susan!
You have to answer. Think of any number and say: “It’s 5 o’clock!”. Then the
children have to ask again and you answer again. If you think the time is right
you answer: “It’s time for dinner!” Then you have to catch all the other
children. Did you hear this? If she says: “It’s time for dinner!” you have to run
away because she will try to catch you. OK? Let’s play!
