Историята на празнуването на Сурова в село Габров дол се губи назад във времето. Ние, наследниците и днешните изпълнители на този обичай, често казваме, че той съществува от "незапомнени времена". Така сме го научили от нашите бащи, а те - от своите. От тях сме наследили и

уменията да правим маски, да дрънкаме със звънци, но също и

задължението на всеки 13/14 януари да бъдем в селото и да продължаваме традицията. Трябва да признаем все пак, че това е една много приятна

отговорност, която всеки от нас изпълнява с огромно желание.

Ние, както и останалите групи в региона, ценим своето наследство и знаем,

че то трябва да бъде съхранено. Също така сме убедени, че признанието от

IOHECKO ще допринесе за по-доброто разбиране на нашата традиция и ще насърчи повече млади хора да се включат в опазването И.

Ето защо участнахме в инициативата за вписването на елемента

,~Народният празник Сурова в Пернишко" в Представителния списък на

нематериалното културно наследство на човечеството. Щастливи сме, че

бяхме подкрепени от българските власти и експерти по нематериално

културно наследство. Следейки процеса по оценяване, с настоящето писмо

ние бихме искали още веднъж да подкрепим тази номинация.

За членовете на сурвакарската група на село Габров дол е удоволствие и

чест да потвърдят своето предварително и информирано съгласие за

участие в кандидатурата "Народният празник в Пернишко" за включване в

Представителния списък на нематериалното културно наследство на

човечеството. Вярваме, че нашата подкрепа ще помогне празникът Сурова

да получи по-голяма значимост и видимост не само на локално и

национално, но и на международно ниво.

The history of the folk feast Surova in the village of Gabrov dol goes long back to the past. We, the bearers and contemporary performers of this custom, often say that it has been observed since "unmemorable times". We have been taught that way by our fathers, and they by theirs. We have inherited from them the knowledge of mask-making and bell-ringing, but also the obligation to be present every year in the village on 13th/14th January and to keep the tradition alive. We must admit, however, that this is a really pleasant responsibility, which each of us is eager to carry.

We, like the other masquerade groups in the region, do value our heritage and are aware that it should be preserved. Furthermore, we are convinced that the recognition of UNESCO will contribute to the better understanding of our tradition and enhance the participation of more young people in its safeguarding.

Bearing all this in mind, we took an active role in the initiative for the inscription of the element "The folk feast Surova in Pernik region" on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. We are happy for being supported by the Bulgarian authorities and experts on intangible cultural heritage. Following the examination process, with the present letter, we would like to express once again our willingness and commitment to the nomination.

Letter of Support

The survakari group of the Bela voda maintains the masquerade

tradition on Surova and transmits it to the next generations. The

community is proud of preserving this ancient ritual and supports the

nomination of "The Folk Feast Surova in Pernik Region" for inscription

in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of

Letter of Support

Surova is the most respected feast throughout the Pernik region. The

population in the village Kopanitsa is actively involved in its preparation and

performance. People start collecting materials and manufacturing masks even

from the summer or some months before the very feast. All people

enthusiastically take part in it on the feast day (13 and 14 January).

The masquerade group of the village Kopanitsa consists adults and

young men, and also women and children. In the evening of 13 January the

survakari gather together around the fire in the centre of the village, where

they meet some other masquerade groups from the neighbouring settlements.

Early in the morning of 14 January the masked personages go around the

village houses, wishing health and abundance to their inhabitants. All the

owners welcome them with love and give them presents.

in the village Bogdanov dol, Pernik region, Surova is the most favourite

feast, eagerly expected b:y all the inhabitants. The traditional masquerade is

performed on the eve of 14 January and aU the villagers - men, women and

children alike. are enthusiastically involved in it along with many relatives, who

usually live in different towns of Pemik region, but for the occasion come back

to their native place. The custom of Surova builds a living bond between the

generations in the community and gives the :young people self-confidence in

preserving and transmitting the tradition.

On that grounds. the inhabitants of the village Bogdanov dol, Pernik

region, give their support for the nomination of "The Folk Feast Surova in

Pernik. Region" for inscription in the Representative List of the lntangible

Cultural Heritage ofHumaniry.
