Listening comprehension problem may cause a student to be Unable to : Follow verbal directions Understand abstract concepts related to time and space. Nouns-To determine whether a student knows the meaning of the word used to label things, the simplest way is for the teacher to say the word , and have the student point to a picture of the object.Adjectives- To test for listening comprehension of adjectives, the teacher can show a picture of two similar objects but with different characteristics, and ask the student to point to the object with the names characteristics.

verbsTo test a students comprehension of action words ,the teacher can ask the students to either perform the action named or to point to a picture showing the action. Preportion-To test the students understanding of words used to indicate position , the teacher can show pictures of similar objects in different positions. Tenses-To test whether the student understants present action, completed action and future action, the teacher can again resort to the use of pictures.Understanding Directions and InstructionsTo test whether a student can understand instruction given by the teacher, the teacher merely gives the instructions for performing a task and ask the students to carry out the instructions.Eg: The teacher can say wipe your hands and the Student does as he is instructed.

Understanding Discourse-To test whether the student can understand connected text,the teacher can read from a text and then ask question based on the text.TEACHING LISTENING COMPREHENSION IN DIFFERENT COMMUNICATIONAL CONTEXTS

One of the focus of instruction is English usage in different communicational contexts. teacher need to create situation that will enable the students to use English appropropriate in these situations to achieve the purpose of communication.Input precedes output and if you do not have the necessary language knowledge and skills, you will able to carry out the communicational task.Eg.
