A Tribute to our 5th Graders

Most Memorable Moment

By Rachel Lyman

When I think and reflect,

On people’s paths that intersect,

When I was right and sometimes wrong,

And they would guide me and direct.

Through the years that have been long,

Growing up, becoming strong,

Just like morphing butterflies,

As through life, they move along.

In third grade, for all who try,

To raise the little butterflies,

Caterpillars soon will grown,

A beauty through a child’s eyes.

From chrysalis their wings will show,

How it works, and now we know,

We’re ready for the change, and so,

Time to let your butterflies go.

President

By: Amanda Gaupp

Anxiousness washed over me like a wave

The gentle click clack of my shoes matched the

beating of my heart

Colors in the halls seemed to whisper good luck

I wiped my hands that were as sweaty as a swamp

Quietly I walked into the office with bad anticipa-

tions

Thoughts of success and failure overwhelmed my

head

Looking back I remember writing a script

Unique ideas were floating in the air

What was to come, what are my plans

Opponents lined up ready to say a dream

Man I had said it like a million times

Gathering in our chairs to vote

Only the “cling” of our chairs was heard

As eager as a baby bird flying for the first time

Breathing in deep breaths slowly then fast

Hesitant to smile, maybe give a slight grin

The video played, it felt like it took centuries

I was feeling all mixed up like a tossed salad

Unsure of what was to come, a flower not budding

Such an experience, an opportunity

No, a magical, mystical dream

A wanted ability for long

I gathered with other hopefuls

Results were yet to come

Whispers and people gather

Silent hopes and winks were exchanged

The teacher spoke slowly

My anticipation overtook

TELL ME, TELL ME

The winner is…

AMANDA

A smile stole my face

Like a baby smiles in its sleep

I had won, success was mine

Time to celebrate

For I am the Student Council…

PRESIDENT!

My Friends from Time to Time

By: Eden Love

From the first time I went through those doors to now, I had some

amazing memorable moments. My most memorable moment is the first

time I met my friends. They are Ava, Morgan, Shreya, and Isabella.

Now Ava was the first friend I ever met. She is smart, funny, and gen-

erous. One time Ava and I were eating lunch and my tooth fell out! So she

helped me. I felt proud of her.

Before I knew it I met Morgan. The most kind, creative, and honest

person I met. In 3rd grade she and I made a tree club, where we help the

trees grow. It was fun!

The next year, I met Shreya. She is hardworking, confident, and a risk

- taker. I remember when we went to look for Morgan, because we were

afraid that she would miss the Folk Tale Show by the high schoolers. Shreya

was confident we would find her. We did!

Then, I met Isabella. She is athletic, curious, and cooperative. I re-

member when we did a Cartier play. She was awesome! I especially loved

the ending where we used cheesecake to wake Isabella up because she

fainted. It worked!

I will never forget these little memorable moments of all my friends.

I know they will come through when I need them to. I hope I can make

more memories with them in middle school

My Most Memorable Moment

By Zoe Collins

That Morning

“I’m so nervous Mom! “ I said as I walked downstairs early Saturday morning. The

three days before had been auditions for Krazy Kamp, the school musical. It was that Satur-

day morning at 11 o’clock am that I would find out if I got in.

“Sweetie, we have to go run some errands. Don’t get your hopes up either, ok?” said

Mom. I know she was trying to help, but I was so anxious that you could have given me my

pillow and favorite blanket, and I still wouldn’t calm down.

“Ok, Mom, but I’m just so anxious, nervous, AND excited!” I said with a slight shakiness

in my voice.

“Let’s go, honey, it will help take the play off your mind,” said Mom.

“Alright, let’s go,” I answered.

Errands

My mom had to get a new picture for her driver’s license, so I had to come with her. We

arrived at the driver’s license place at around 10 o’clock am. The hour was slightly fast, but

for the most part, it was really slow. Every 10 minutes, I would text all my friends to tell

them the remaining time. Eventually, it was 11 o’clock, and I thought to myself, FINALLY. I

looked at the Krazy Kamp page and found that the service was so bad that the page was all

choppy. Suddenly, I got a text from my best friend saying that I got Eve Hunnicutt, the lead

role! I asked my friend if she was kidding me, and she told me no!

The Service Finally Works

Eventually, the service started working, and I got to the cast list page. Since my name starts with a

“Z,” I was all the way at the bottom. There it was: I was Eve Hunnicutt! I was so excited and happy!

All my friends who tried out got in, and most of them got really good parts.

The End

Now that the experience is over, I can honestly say it is one of the best experiences I have ever had. I

made lots of new friends, and I hope to have an experience like that again!

Grant

By Ben Yousif

Afraid on my first day

Didn’t know anyone.

Met a friend,

A best friend.

We played football

And talked...a lot.

We got in trouble in class together.

We had our fun in 5th grade.

Now, everything will change,

Since we’re nearing 6th grade.

We might part ways

And make new friends,

But maybe it’s our destiny.

Yes, I am afraid,

But I’ll make new friends,

So there is still hope.

Sun and Moon

Abbie Dunkley

The sun sits perched in

The sky so high,

Just lie the bird perched

In a tree nearby.

It stays until the perfect time,

Then leaves us until the

Beautiful night is nigh again.

The moon is bright

And calming to me,

It peacefully sits just like

A silent rain at night.

I hear a wolf cry a the full moon sight.

Most Memorable Moment

By Rachel Clawson

The place my mind knows the best, where my memories remain: Elementary school is

the introduction to school. It ends, but I know elementary will last forever.

As I look back, all the years, friends, teachers, discoveries, heart aches, a certain

memory shows me that I can change.

The way this person inspires all her students, the way she teaches, helps kids reach

their goals, I know she is the most amazing teacher ever. She is Mrs. Boaz!

Who was I before I knew her? Was I as focused? I know the answer isn’t what it should

be. I adore her in every way. Mrs. Boaz is the best, most amazing, compassionate teacher I

have ever known.

Middle school is weeks away, and I know that I am prepared for next year because of

her!

Havasu Falls

By Elise Witherow

Nature’s gifts are all around

The colors are so attractive.

If you close your eyes and listen,

You can hear the water beating against the rocks.

The water fall comes crashing down;

It makes a thunderous noise.

The mist is so heavy in the air,

Through the sun’s beams, a rainbow appears.

Nature’s gifts are all around,

Havasu Falls is one of those gifts.

When I first walked into Ameritowne, I was astonished. It was huge! When I first walked in

through the doors, I couldn’t see all the fun stuff, but when I went up the stairs and turned the

corner, I was thunderstruck! It was amazing. There was a large area, and it was surrounded by

small shops that looked so real. There were many shops like the Medical Center, Fitness Center,

The Five Rapid Rascal (DJ place), a sign and print shop, a bank, a UPS store, and many more!

I was assigned the job of medical technician, and boy, was it fun! I was busy all day and

had very little time for a break. You had cash and a credit card. When you were on break, you

could go around to all the different shops and buy things.

We ate lunch and resumed our jobs at work. There was a food shop to buy food and eat.

We left Ameritowne and went back to school. I then realized how important it is to take

care of yourself and make a living.

This was my amazing, memorable moment that I will never forget!

The Chocolate Jeopardy

By Isabel Baldera

Mrs. V is the best with a box of chocolates on her desk.

Filled with wonder is every square,

A playful Jeopardy is what we dare.

For the small little squares are a mystery,

And thee choice you make can be what you seek,

But beware the dangers when you peek…

One bite can be victory!

What you seek may not be,

When you turn to face the class,

You choice may be the last,

Before the laugher breaks out past.

That chocolate may be the best,

But it also might be what you detest!

A story is up on the board,

And answer you must by memory or record.

Most Memorable Moment

By Megan Schimmel

My most memorable moment is the butterflies in 3rd grade. They changed my

perspective about nature and have opened my eyes to the outdoors.

Back in the 3rd grade in Mrs. Hart’s class, she told us about Monarch Butterflies

because we were studying life cycles. A week later, our caterpillars arrive. They were

black and yellow and were about two centimeters long. Mrs. Hart pu them in a small

cup with a lid filled at the bottom with tan-colored food. Every day, we would pull out

our rulers and measure them. Soon, some were about six to seven centimeters long.

Day by day, we would watch our caterpillars eat and grow, and all the while, we would

be studying their ways and parts of their bodies grow. Soon, the food disappeared but

a chrysalis appeared on the top of our lids.

Mrs. Hart then announced that it was time to transport them to the portable

butterfly cage. So carefully, we put our chrysalis on little towels and hung them in the

cage. Then, we waited and waited until finally, after three to four weeks of caterpil-

lars morphing to butterflies in their chrysalis’ they emerged from their morphing

chambers. The cage got splattered with red liquid from the newly-hatched butterflies.

About four days later, when all of the butterflies could fly, we took them to the rocks

by the playground to set them free. As Mrs. Hart opened the lid, a few flew out imme-

diately flying away happily and freely. The class began reaching in and helping butter-

flies out. One even flew onto my hand and didn’t move a muscle. A couple minutes lat-

er, we were about to head inside when the butterfly flew from my hands. That day

was never, ever forgotten.

The butterflies have never left my heart. This was my most memorable moment

and since the butterflies, nature has always been my friend.

Lake House

By Matt Fellows

The family lake house

Is warm and cozy.

The old rusted beds

Creak in the night.

The water is as

Calm as a sleeping cat.

The boat and jet ski

Rock in the calm lake.

The house sleeps under the moon.

Las Vegas

I look into the sky.

I see the bright moon with the pyramid’s beacon shining past.

I see the strip with all its light shining bright as the stars in the night sky.

I see people walking, and blinking lights dancing over their heads.

Goodnight, Moon. Goodnight, Stars.

A Prom Letter from a 5th Grader to a Senior:

Dear Elizabeth,

My name is Isabella. I am in 5th grade and glad to be your personal prom stylist

and listener. I love fashion and soccer. Now enough about me, how ‘bout you? Are you

excited about prom? Who are you going with? What do you like to do? What are you go-

ing to wear? If you haven’t decided, I have some suggestions. I would suggest blue or

silver because that looks gorgeous with sparkles. I will draw a picture for you! Also,

may I suggest soft curls for your hair? Plus, red lipstick and blush would sell the whole

look! I will leave it at that. You were a great fashion client! (Just kidding).

Advice: 1. be yourself 2. have fun 3. have a good attitude 4. don’t stare at some-

one who is not your date 5. look good.

Let this be a night to remember,

Isabella

The Sheep

By Bronson Mack (1st grade)

One day there was a pack of sheep. A boy went to feed the sheep. But the boy noticed he

lost a sheet. So the boy started looking for the sheep. He spotted the sheep in a ditch. The

boy tried a stick to pull her up, but it broke. He tried a rope. It worked! They lived happily

ever after. Baaaa-baaaa-baaaa!

Mexico Fun

By Rachel Clawson

The waves crash down. The sun’s bright now. So fair out in the blue. I see a dolphin.

I wake up early for an adventure. The wind on my face on the bumpy boat.

I ride the open air bus until it stops.

I receive my gear as I run to catch up with the group. I hop on a mule. They stop and run

like the pattern of a poem.

I zoom through the sky, repel down a waterfall, surf across the blue, and slide the slide.

I love the place where I always wish to be.

How the Zebra Got His Stripes

How the Zebra Got His Stripes

by Jada Roberson 1st grade

There once was a zebra named Zeze. One day he began to won-

der why he had stripes. So he asked Zoey. Zoey told him that

long ago there was a zebra named Zeki. He was plain old gray.

“I`m tired of being plain old gray. All the other animals are color-

ful and no one likes gray,” he said to himself. Then, one day, he

found a truck with feathers. Since there were only black and

white feathers he took them. He also found glue. The next day

he began to stick the feathers on his body. When he was done, he

walked to where all the animals were playing. When they saw

him they had no clue who he was. When Zeki told everyone that

it was him they told him that they were surprised they asked him

“Why are you like this?” Then he told them the story. “Since no

one likes gray, I found a truck that had feathers in it. I also found

glue. Then, I stuck the glue and the feathers on and thats how I

got like this.” Since they were amazed they all had a huge and

fun party. After the party, the giraffe said, “We should come up

with a plan so that other zebras could be like this.” So they

did. There plan was that when zebras are older they get feathers

stuck on them. Then they all lived happily ever after
