The main criterion for distinguishing between major assault and simple assault is the degree of health impairment. Major assault is health impairment resulting in the victim’s loss of sight, hearing, speech, reproductive capacity or pregnancy; a serious incurable disease or a long‐term and life‐threatening illness or serious mental illness, or loss of most of his capacity for work in a profession or in general employment, or becoming permanently maimed.
