The documentary is dedicated to the Žalgiris (Grunwald, Tannenberg) battle which was the major event in the 1409–1411 Great War between the Teutonic Order and the joint Lithuanian-Polish forces. Called the Battle of Nations the Teutonic Order suffered a devastating defeat, which it was never able to completely recover from. Although the Žalgiris battle has been an object of study for centuries, there are many stereotypes and misconceptions. The film reveals the truth via interviews with famous scientists from Lithuania, Poland and Germany.

Vidas Zenonas Antonovas stole around a million rubles from the state’s institutions and has been recorded in the book of the most interesting criminals of Soviet Union. He spent 20 years of his life in 15 different prisons. Now he is 71 and has a big family – 10 children, 2 grandchildren and a newborn son.

‘Of course, twenty years in prison and the criminal activity I was involved in have changed my being. But I felt that I still had enough strength and opportunities to create the family that my father and grandfather spoke of,’ - said Antonovas.

Belarus. Town of Zhlobin. It’s been 21 years since the collapse of the Soviet Union. Most of the locals survive solely by making and selling soft toys. Their only customers are the people passing through on trains. However, approaching a train with a toy in one’s hands is illegal. The film tells the stories of ordinary people living in the town of Zhlobin. They all make toys, sell them, have chats, drink, go back to making toys, sing, fight and… make toys again.

Nowadays it is believed that the first wild sublime deer breed appeared precisely in the forest of the Žagarė region and then later were seen in the North Lithuania and Latvia as well. The film director Vytas Jankevičius spent five years in Žagarė Regional park during the making of the film. There he became acquainted with local man Saulius Alejūnas who is not only a woodsman and monumentalist but a big nature lover, too. The documentary reflects the life of wild deers in Žagarė Regional park forests through the eyes of Saulius Alejūnas.

Julia is a ‘long-term portrait’ of a present day 30-year old transsexual woman Julia K. from Klaipėda, Lithuania, who came to Berlin as an 18-year old, and has been working since then as a prostitute – the last eight years on the strip of the notorious Frobenstrasse. ‘I cannot say ‘I am a woman’, but neither am I a man,’ Julia says of herself. ‘I am something you don’t know from a dictionary. I am – something… a creation of God, but an odd creation. God didn’t take good care during my birth.’ Julia does not have any other authority than this God who has made a mistake. She has never signed the ‘contract social’.

Some called him a madman, others – a genius. His multifaceted talent had an impact on virtually every aspect of photography. He was the first to go beyond Lithuanian surroundings and document the spontaneous reality of Asia, Caucasus, Siberia, and other Soviet Republics. The documentary The Ultimate Goal tells the controversial life story of Povilas Marcinkus. The 55-years-old man arrives to a nursing home in Lioliu village after 28 years spent in jail. One-legged and drug-addicted Povilas becomes the unofficial ‘boss’ of the nursing home manipulating and violently abusing the villagers and the el-derly people living with him in the same institution. The comfortable life of Povilas comes to an end when he harasses a store-keeper with a knife. He moves to Vilnius where he survives as a beggar. Unfor-tunately, he meets the love of his life – the drug addicted homeless Snezhana who encourages Povilas to get back to drugs. Powerless, Povilas has no more control over his life, as it turns around his daily drug dose. His only hope is to be treated in a rehabilitation center. Unfortunately, Povilas is still hesitating to take a decision.

The movie reveals the creation process and behind the scenes of the animation film Laima Determines the Destiny. The director of the animation Jūratė Leikaitė tells how the scenario of the animation was born, how she created a complex structure of the cartoon. There is an old building standing in Vilnius, Liepkalnis Street. Every day between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. people can see a diverse crowd standing by the entrance. Most of the crowd lives on the periphery of society, having no status or stable income. The search for a hot meal brings them all here, but it provides more than just food for their stomachs. The half hour of waiting in the queue is the time when these people can open up to each other without feeling ashamed. Rejected by respectable society, they are destined to be among the brothers and sisters who have lost their social skin and privacy barriers.

In the film we talk about eternal values, and the role of the dissident in the modern world, with the people belonging to the active minority, and whose perseverance led to the disintegration of the Soviet empire. In the hands of that active minority also lies the future of the slowly degrading Western civilization. We live in times of confusion and depreciation of values – such phenomenon accompanied each collapse of a great civilisation, but they were always replaced with other, more complex and more coherent systems of values. Who knows, we might actually stand on the brink of radical change?

Vitolis Laumakys and Adolfas Morėnas accidentally met in the street when Adolfas was repairing his motorcycle. During a short chat they shared their admiration for cinema. Adolfas revealed he had an 8 mm film camera – so, they started filming. In 1962 film studio ‘The Amateur’ was established and it soon became the most successful and famous Lithuanian amateur film studio.

The film is not about the death of the two Americans of the Lithuanian origin – it is about their immortal flight over the Atlantic. The story takes us back to the beginning of the 20th century. Lithuanian emigrant military pilot S.Darius generated the idea of the first to-be-immortal Lithuanian flight over the Atlantic. The film is the legend of the tragic perishing of the two pilots.

There is a colony of cormorants in the Curonian Spit. While there were just a few birds, they were inscribed into the Lithuanian Red Book. However, the number of birds increased over 30 years and they became the number one enemy in the region. Man felt threatened, because the cormorants took part of the fishermen’s catch and they expanded their territory in the old woods. What is the precise number of birds that would ensure they are not dangerous to consumers? The cormorants’ colony is a splendid example of the relationship between people and their surroundings.
