NAMIBIA SAFARI 9 sunny days & starry nights

Our Namibia Safari starts and ends in the capital of Windhoek, with easy daily connections from Johannesburg.

Namibia is named after the Namib Desert - the oldest desert on earth. It provides a unique desert safari experience, under blue, sun-drenched skies and clear, star-strewn nights. The diversity of the desert scenery is astonishing, as are the specially adapted creatures and plants.

On this safari you travel first Southwards, to the giant red dunes of Sossusvlei, then turn Northwards, to Damaraland, with its backdrop of purple and ochre mountains, then to Palmwag’s rocky hills, and finally to Ongavaland, and the flat, white salt pans of Etosha.

You travel between camps by light aircraft, which provides you with spectacular bird’s eye views of the landscapes. You stay in luxury tented camps – each one individually and thoughtfully designed and superbly situated. All arrangements are made for you – you just sit back and enjoy the wonderful scenery and wildlife!

Here is a brief description of the safari.

LITTLE KULALA CAMP – KULALA WILDERNESS RESERVE & SOSSUSVLEI

Two nights – rate includes all meals and drinks, laundry, and daily activities*, also air transfers between Windhoek – Sossusvlei - 1h15. *Ballooning and horse riding are the exceptions and billed separately.

Little Kulala is situated amongst Acacia trees in the 40 000 hectare Kulala Wilderness Reserve adjacent to the 400 Km long Namib-Naukluft National Park. It is ideally positioned for excursions to the red sand seas and towering 300 m high red sand dunes of Sossusvlei that are famous worldwide and a ‘must do’ in Namibia. Access is easy - through the camp’s own private entrance. The climate-controlled villas blend beautifully into the landscape. Each has its own private plunge pool and a rooftop ‘sky bed’ to view the sparkling stars. Dinners are eaten al fresco. Activities include walking, horse riding, day and night game drives, eco-friendly quad biking and balloon trips. DAMARALAND CAMP – TORRA CONSERVANCY

Two nights – rate includes all meals and drinks, laundry, and daily activities, also air transfers Sossusvlei – Palmwag - 3h. Damaraland Camp is nestled in the Huab River Valley in the 352 000 hectare Torra Conservancy. The mountains that form the backdrop behind give the feeling that you are living in a giant painting. The stark river beds are dry and precious moisture is provided by early morning fogs rolling in from the distant sea. Days are spent spotting game such as Elephant, Kudu, Gemsbok, endangered Black Rhino and Springbok, and marvelling at the curious plants, such as bottled-shaped Pachypodiums and candelabra-like Spiny Euphorbias that are dotted about the landscape. Evenings are spent outside under the stars next to the fire in the ‘Boma’. You can also visit a traditional village and the Petroglyphs – ancient rock etchings and San Bushmen paintings at Twyfelfontein. Damaraland Camp ©Stuart Danks

DESERT RHINO CAMP – PALMWAG CONCESSION

Two nights – rate includes all meals and drinks, laundry, and daily activities, also air transfer – Damaraland Camp-Desert Rhino Camp - 30m.

Here you find yourself in the private 450 000 hectare Palmwag Concession, accommodated in the classic Meru-styled safari tents of Desert Rhino Camp. They are placed on raised wooden decks, a little above the desert floor, to keep them cool. The plains in front of the camp are strewn with fascinating Welwitschia plants. They have an underground trunk and only two leaves that grow continuously. They live 1 000 years or more. You also see the succulent Euphorbia trees which look like giant, green, thorny candelabra. You explore the rocky hills and flat-topped mountains on foot and by vehicle, having the opportunity to do night drives and sit secretly in hides. You can learn about Rhino conservation and track rare black Rhino with Save the Rhino Trust trackers. Zebra, Giraffe and Lion can also be seen. Desert Rhino Camp ©Stuart Dan

ONGAVA TENTED CAMP – ONGAVA RESERVE & ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK

Three nights – rate includes all meals and drinks, laundry, and daily activities, also air transfer between Palmwag - Ongava – 1h – and on to Windhoek - 1h40.

The landscape changes dramatically again. Tucked away under a small hill in the 30 000 hectare Ongava Reserve on the Southern border of Etosha, you will find Ongava Tented Camp, with its own private and well visited waterhole. Here day and night drives, hide sits and trips to Etosha are on offer. Etosha Pans are the dry remnants of an ancient 5 000km

2 inland sea

– providing endless flat, bare, white vistas. Game are easily viewed as they come down to the waterholes to drink. Among the larger game you can see are Lion, Elephant, Gemsbok, Springbok, Red Hartebeest, and both Black and White Rhino. Special birds sightings include Rüppell’s Parrot.
