Principal’s Report Student Leadership 2018: Over the final weeks, the grade five students will be finalising their applications for the

various official student leadership roles that will be available in 2018. We are expecting all applications for the

leadership roles to be submitted early in December. All leadership positions will be announced at our final assembly of

the year.

Rotary Awards: Tonight our Rotary Junior Citizenship awardees will be recognized at the Student Awards Dinner. The

Rotary Awards are the culmination of months of effort in student based projects involving community work, acquiring

new skills, physical or sporting activity and participation in formal ceremonies, activities and an arts event.

Congratulations to all participants, it is great to see the leadership shown by many of our students and their active

involvement within our community.

Parent Helpers/Volunteers Morning Tea: So many programs in our school rely on the generous time and effort by our

fantastic volunteers. To say thank you we are holding our annual parent helpers/volunteers morning tea on Thursday 7th

December at 11:00am. Invites are being sent out to parents and volunteers, however if at any stage you have

volunteered across the school this year, please come along to our morning tea as our way of acknowledging the time

and effort that you have put into the school throughout the year. If you are interested in helping around the school

please come and let us know. We have programs that require support once a year through to other volunteers who give

up 1 hour a week. Volunteers are often what makes so many of our programs successful throughout the year, benefiting

our students in so many different ways.

Student Transition Program: Beginning Tuesday 12th December through to Friday 15th we will be running our

transition program across the school. Students will spend 2 hours working in their 2018 year level between 11:30 – 1:30.

Students will also work with their 2018 class teacher. As we are going up in enrolments for 2018, 2 new teachers will be

joining the LEPS team. These new teachers will also be involved in transition towards the end of the YEAR, to introduce

themselves to their students and become familiar with essential teaching programs across the school. The process is

designed to help with transition and adjusting to a new learning environment and expectations ready for 2018.

Final Assembly: A reminder to all parents that our final assembly will be on Friday 22nd December at 12:00, students

will then be dismissed at 1:00pm.

Beginning of Term 1 2018: Our school will be open Monday 29th January, the first day for students is Wednesday 31st

January.

Only 26 days till Christmas!

Pupils of the Week - congratulations

Indie Carter for working hard on learning all her letter sounds and using them in her writing. Brooke Collier for having a great attitude at school and always trying her best. Locy Lam for making a fantastic start at LEPS and approaching all her learning with enthusiasm. Hannah Maggs for outstanding results in all her spelling tests. Well done Hannah, you should be so proud. Heather Jenkins for always demonstrating a caring and compassionate attitude towards her classmates. Brooke Fulton for outstanding achievement in your learning and personal growth. You are a pleasure to have in the classroom. Gavin Blew-Doucette for doing an amazing job on your “Doors” piece of writing. Emma White for being an all-round awesome student. Great helper, kind friend and a pleasure to have in class.

GRADES 1 AND 2 HEALTHY GARDENING

The students in grades 1 & 2 have been investigating healthy gardening,

growing and cooking this term with great enthusiasm. New garden beds

have been donated from the Men’s Shed in Lakes Entrance and Birdie in

Qld with soil donated by 3 Lakes Garden Supplies and horse manure

from Jane Christie in Bruthen. A successful crop of Silverbeet, chard,

herbs and lettuce are growing and ready for harvesting.

Kerrilee Kimber, Health Promotion at Gippsland Lakes Community Health, has been supporting the teachers in this

initiative. On Wednesday Kerrilee brought in her juicing machine and the students turned some of their silverbeet and

parsley into a delicious juice (with the help of apple, watermelon and carrots for sweetness). The students were amazed

that this green-orange coloured juice could taste so nice. Well done everyone for taste testing.

The second activity for the afternoon focused on constructing a colourful fruit kebab with lots of discussion about taste,

texture, what makes fruit certain colours and how much water is there in fruit e.g. watermelon is 92% water.

Students have also been baking recently, which assists learning in measurement, following instructions through a recipe

and working as a team to produce a delicious result.

Next Thursday the students will be creating a salad of their imagination, healthy wraps and investigating ways to use their

garden produce.

Christmas Raffle. It would be appreciated if all families could donate

convenience. More donations mean more prizes!!
