SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER [or SUNDAY OF DIVINE MERCY] ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 99 - 4 SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER [or SUNDAY OF DIVINE MERCY]

APRIL 23, 2017

Reflection There is a story about St. Christopher, maybe more legend than truth, which runs this way: As a youth, Christopher was gifted in every way, except faith. He was generous, using his physical strength to help others. His one fault was that he found it hard to believe in God. FINDING FAITH IN LOVE This, however, did not prevent him from using his gifts, especially his physical strength, to serve others. He became a ferryboat operator, spending his life helping to carry people across a dangerous river. One night, so the legend goes, during a storm, the ferryboat capsized and Christopher dived into the dark waters to rescue a young child. Carrying that child to the shore, he looked into its face and saw there the face of Christ. After that he believed, for he had seen the face of Christ. The very name, Christopher, contains the legend. Christopher means Christ-bearer. Fact or fiction? In either case, the story contains a profound lesson. It gives us an answer, to a difficult questions of all: What should we do when our faith is weak? Christopher’s answer? Live as honestly and respectfully as you can and use your gifts to help others. Help others especially the poor. God will appear. Faith is not so much a question of feeling as of selfless service. I wonder did Thomas find faith because he rejoined the apostles? When he came back, did he see the faith in the eyes of his friends and then was ready to believe again? In the community of the people he found the Lord. Often our faith is shallow, wobbly. Love can bring faith alive.

In my love, O Lord, may I find faith in you.

SHARELIFE Living the Gospel by helping the vulnerable in our

society… Tim and Donna met 25 years ago and have made the Friday

and Saturday social nights at Our Place a regular part of their lives. Their intellectual capacity is somewhat limited but they do maintain their own independent apartments. While Tim is currently caring for his aging

mother following her recent surgery, Donna is able to support Tim by cooking meals and offering caring attention. As Tim overcomes some social shyness in his own life, he also takes cares of some of Donna’s daily needs with household chores, and working on the computer. The support role ShareLife plays enables Our Place to be a caring partner to these vulnerable people. ShareLife funded agencies like Our Place helps many intellectually disabled men and women through compassionate and caring support.

RITE OF ENROLMENT FOR 2017 CONFIRMANDI

Will take place on Saturday, April 29th at the 5 pm Mass

SUNDAY OF DIVINE MERCY Join us for the recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet at noon on Sunday, April 23rd.

THE DIVINE MERCY MESSAGE AND DEVOTION

The message of The Divine Mercy is simple. It is that God loves us – all of us. And, he wants us to recognize that His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow through us to others. Thus, all will come to share His joy. The Divine Mercy message is one we can call to mind simply by remembering ABC: A - Ask for His Mercy. God wants us to approach Him in prayer constantly, repenting of our sins and asking Him to pour His mercy out upon us and upon the whole world. B - Be merciful. God wants us to receive His mercy and let it flow through us to others. He wants us to extend love and forgiveness to others just as He does to us. C - Completely trust in Jesus. God wants us to know that the graces of His mercy are dependent upon our trust. The more we trust in Jesus, the more we will receive. This message and devotion to Jesus as The Divine Mercy is based on the writings of Saint Faustina Kowalska, an uneducated Polish nun who, in obedience to her spiritual director, wrote a diary of about 600 pages recording the revelations she received about God's mercy. Even before her death in 1938, the devotion to The Divine Mercy had begun to spread. The message and devotional practices proposed in the Diary of Saint Faustina are completely in accordance with the teachings of Church and are firmly rooted in the Gospel message of our Merciful Savior. Properly understood and implemented, they will help us grow as genuine followers of Christ. Spend time to learn more about the mercy of God, learn to trust in Jesus, and live your life as merciful to others, as Christ is merciful to you.
