    JANA KRAMER

Growing up in Detroit, Jana Kramer is no stranger to the ric

history of country music, crediting one of her favorite memo

ries to baking cookies with her grandmother while listening t

    Patsy Cline.

“Country music is in my blood. I love country music becausit tells a story and I have a lot of stories to tell.”

But the singer/songwriter/actress first won fans in her role

as firecracker actress Alex Dupre on the CW series “One Tree

Hill.” The series also helped launch her country music career,

with her first four singles - “Why Ya Wanna,” “I Won’t Give

Up,” “Whiskey” and “What I Love About Your Love” - all bein

    featured on the series soundtrack.

“I love acting, but my heart and soul is in singing,” Kramer

says. “I’ve been terrified to pursue this dream because it’s so

personal to me. If someone tells me they don’t like my voice,

it’s a lot harder of a hit to take.”

Those fears appear to be unfounded.

These days she is lighting up country music with her emo-

tionally moving songs and sweet, country vocals.

Named the Academy of Country Music’s New Female Vocal

ist of 2013, Kramer is coming to Lancaster fresh off CMT’s

    Next Women of Country Tour.

She is currently enjoying success with “I Got the Boy,” the

first single off her sophomore album.MARK TUCKER PHOTO

    RUTHIE COLLINS

Things that do not go together: An upright bass and a

dance beat. Crafting parties and honky tonks. New York and

hillbillies. Instagram and romance. Tones harkening back to

Hank Senior and a sound fresh enough to turn country mus

on its ear. Somehow, Curb Records newcomer Ruthie Collin

doesn’t just bring those polar opposites a little closer, sheconnects them in a way that makes perfect sense. The effec

is stunning — nowhere more so than on her debut single

    “Ramblin’ Man.”

When sounds reminiscent of Hank Williams’ mournful call

are joined by Collins’ ethereal vocals over a completely

unexpected backbeat, traditionalists instantly know the trac

is no mere cover of the 1953 chart-topper.

“I am a really old-fashioned person living in 2015,” Collins

says. “I drive a 1984 Jeep Wagoneer with wood paneling, b

there’s a backup camera and an iPod dock. I am obsessed

with rustic farmhouse decor. I have a garden. All these thing

are very country, we just don’t always think about youngwomen in that way. But they’re out there and they’re having

    crafting parties with their girlfriends.

“Whether it’s something that’s timeless or something bran

new that aspires to that, I am drawn to things that speak of

permanence. And that’s how I feel about my music — the

upright bass and bluegrass instrumentation modernized an

    brought into the present day.”

    SLIMFITCORTY BYRON

Cortlan “Corty” Alan Byron II started his life in music at a

very early age. While most of his high school classmates

were gearing up for a driver’s license, Corty was busy

writing songs and trying to figure out Hendrix licks on his

guitar. His father, a veteran musician in his own right, laid

the foundation for his son’s music growth and can still beseen performing with him today.

    A fixture in his hometown

of Lancaster, Byron is also a

    seasoned road hound, gig-

    ging his way from Manhat-

    tan to Memphis, Austin

    to Vegas and points in

    between. His music is

    a blend of musical

    styles and influences

    including swampy

    vintage rock, soul-ful acoustic-

    based

    Americana

    and song-

    driven indie

    pop/rock.

Lancaster-based Slimfit has built a reputation as a foot-

    stomping, high-energy band with a devil-may-care attitud

based on their rollicking live performances and a soundthat mixes a variety of styles and influences to produce

what the band describes as “face-slappin’ rock-n-country

    roll.”

Slimfit sound exactly like what they are: a group of long-

time friends with a shared affinity for fringe country, punk

rock spirit, camping trips and Bell Biv DeVoe T-shirts.
