when shopping the first thing you need to do is make a list of all the persons you wish to purchase gifts for and put what item/s you would like to buy for that person. it is best to start shopping early especially when purchasing items online since shipping may take longer than usual because of the busy christmas Season.

when ordering online products it is important to do some research, compare prices and check reviews from reputable sites for the partiular item/s you wish to purchase. inquire and be clear about return policies on all gift items you purchase.

if you want to get the best deals pre-christmas sales such as divali sales, black friday and thanksgiving sales are always helpful. Do some research ahead of time since some of these sales may not necessarily be cheaper than regular sale prices.

lyl maggift ideas

gift cards: gift cards are always a great idea when in doubt of what to buy for someone. you can get gift cards for almost anywhere .

make sure you get all relevant infomation about the gift card you plan to purchase . for example: the expiry date, what items you can purchase, if it can be reloadable and used for sale items as well as regular priced items.

gift cards are available for most stores. for example: restaurants, jewellery stores, ice-cream shops, clothing stores, electronic shops and much more.

gifTS for meN

Some people find it hard to shop for men they are tired of giving them ties, underwear and socks. men do like a wide variety of stuff.

it always helps to find out what they like and work around that.

for example: game lovers may want the latest video game or game controlller or accessories, sport fanatics may want their favourite teams' latest kit, for the music lovers you can get cds from their favorite artistes, an itunes gift card, cool headphones, ipod or mp3 player, cordless speakers etc.

gifTS for cHilDreN & BaBieS

There are always new stuff on the market ,children like whatever they see on advertisements. you would hear them talking about the items they like. Take note of it, do some research to get it at the best price. as for babies please remember don't but toys that they can swallow or make them suffocate. educational items are good at this stage since it is never too early for babies too learn.

gifTS for womeN

women are usually easy to please. They work hard throughout the year taking care of the family and some work otherwise. at christmas time women usually want something for themselves. for example: a massage or mani pedi at a spa, perfumes, jewellery, a mini vacation.

always keep in mind what would please the persons on your list. look out for hints in conversations and you should be able to find a suitable gift.

IS CHRISTMAS A GOOD TIME TO PURCHASE A new CAR ?

absolutely! This time of year people tend to focus their efforts on shopping and buying christmas presents for family and friends. even though most consumers flock to the mall, car buyers can find great deals at showrooms between christmas and New year’s Day.

This is because the end of the month is usually a good time to buy because salesmen are trying to make their monthly sales quotas and are willing to make deals. another reason is that during the holiday season dealerships are deserted and salesmen are desperate to find customers and clear out any leftover vehicles.

The discounts can be overwhelming, especially for shoppers who are willing to negotiate and aren’t fussy about colors and trim levels. The remainder of vehicles you’ll find may not be equipped exactly the way you want if you were ordering it. But you may be willing to accept a few attributes if the price is right.

if you’re thinking of purchasing a vehicle, consider shopping over the holidays when discounts are plentiful.

WHAT TO WEAR TO AN OFFICEChristmas PartyWearing suitable clothing at an office party is very important. It is an event that you represent not only yourself but your company or organization. Make sure you know the dress code of your office party and dress appropriately.

Do'S

wear an outfit that shows your boss and co-workers you made an extra effort.

Play with trends that you won't necessarily wear throughout the work week. Keep it trendy but appropriate.

adding a great accessory statement is always good. e.g. a statement necklace, festive scarf, sparkly earrings clutch etc.

for the guys, look well groomed, shave, wear nice polished shoes, add a nice leather belt and accessories.

DoNT'S

for the guys , don't dress down or be too casual. Polos and khakis aren't suitble for this occassion.

Never wear over festive sweaters or ties especially those that light up.

Don't wear extremely high heels that will make you wobble and appear drunk.

Don't wear anthing torn, whether designer or not.

Never wear short skirts, dresses or tops.

avoid wearing revealing clothes that show your skin.

peace on earth

THe BirD of cHriSTmaS DawNiNgby william Shakespeare(Hamlet - act 1, Scene 1)

Some say that ever 'gainst the season comes, wherein our Saviour's birth is celebrated,The bird of dawning singeth all night long;and then, they say, no spirit dare stir abroad; The nights are wholesome; then no planets strike,No fairy takes, or witch hath power to charm,So hallow'd and so gracious is that time.

cHriSTmaS BellS

by Henry wadsworth longfellow (1864)

i heard the bells on christmas DayTheir old, familiar carols play, and wild and sweet The words repeatof peace on earth, good-will to men!

and thought how, as the day had come,The belfries of all christendom Had rolled along The unbroken songof peace on earth, good-will to men!

Till ringing, singing on its way,The world revolved from night to day, a voice, a chime, a chant sublimeof peace on earth, good-will to men!

Then from each black, accursed mouthThe cannon thundered in the South, and with the sound The carols drownedof peace on earth, good-will to men!

it was as if an earthquake rentThe hearth-stones of a continent, and made forlornThe households bornof peace on earth, good-will to men!

and in despair i bowed my head;“There is no peace on earth,” i said; “for hate is strong, and mocks the songof peace on earth, good-will to men!”

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep“god is not dead, nor doth He sleep; The wrong shall fail, The right prevail, with peace on earth, good-will to men.”

Ever notice that you put on some size around Christmas time? Think that it’s not a problem to add some weight because you are enjoying yourself? Ever had so much to eat and drink that you felt sick? Bloating up and putting

on dramatically excess weight around the holiday season can be dangerous and should be avoided.

What happens when you put on weight?Weight gain occurs when the body is given more calories than needed. This occurs when you consume foods that provide more than enough of the energy your body needs to perform daily tasks. Therefore, the calories you consume minus the calories you use shows excess which results in weight gain. These extra calories are stored in the body as fat. The amount of fatty tissue then increases which leads to weight gain. A fun fact is that the body cannot get rid of fat cells, but can only shrink them. Therefore you can gain more fat cells on a daily basis by overeating but you cannot lose them, you can only make them smaller. This shows that you will always have a risk of returning to the biggest size you ever were.

According to research, one pound is approximately 3,500 calories. The aim is to make healthier lifestyle changes that can benefit you in the long run. Keeping hydrated can also help with weight control. This means drinking 6 to 8 glasses of water daily.

What to know about the diet? The aim is to consume the right amount of calories to provide for your daily needs. The recommendation is that your diet should provide 45-65% carbohydrate, 10-25% protein and 20-35% fat. Carbohydrate is needed in large amounts because it provides the basic energy what the body uses. It is the main source of energy. Protein is for growth and tissue repair. It also helps to provide lean muscle mass. Fat is used in every part of the body. It is essential for cell membrane development and provides a cushion for organs. Examples of foods that fall under these three macronutrients are:

Carbohydrate Protein Fat______(45-60%) (15-25%) (20-35%)Christmas Rice Baked Turkey OilsMacaroni Stewed Chicken Butter

When consuming more than the recommended amounts, you put yourself at risk for weight gain. Energy intake differs from person to person. It must be calculated.

Making healthier choices for the Christmas HolidayYou can enjoy your traditionally prepared meals and stay in shape for the Christmas holiday! Look your best and enjoy the rest!

Follow these safe tips and enjoy the holiday:

• Choose lean pieces of meat• Remove skin from meat when eating• Choose the healthier dessert e.g. fruit bowl• Monitor alcohol intake (2 glasses for men, 1 glass for women)• Choose to take walks on a daily basis for at least 20 minutes.• Try not to move away from your normal eating pattern.• Chew properly and eat slowly, it helps to increase satiety.• Become aware of temptations and look more at the salad and fruit options.• Balance meals with a variety of food groups from the Caribbean Food Pyramids to help weight• Consume nutrient dense foods that provide for all your vitamins and minerals.

Alcohol Consumption

Christmas is a special time of the year where we meet with family and friends to celebrate. It can be said that consumption of alcohol in Trinidad and Tobago is high throughout the year, but increases at Christmas time. Intake of alcohol is also increased most of us may drink a lot more alcohol which can be very dangerous to your health. It is recommended that men consume 2 glasses of wine and women 1 glass. This is because men have more lean mass than women making them less susceptible to the negative impact of alcohol. If you never drank before, the recommendation is to not start. This is because most times, those who start then get addicted over time. Drinking small amounts on a daily basis (not over the recommended amount) can be beneficial to those who normally drink. Binge drinking does not provide any benefits. It can damage all organs in the body especially the liver.

Try these tips below:• Use small measures when drinking• Add or mix drinks with chaser to reduce the amount of alcohol you consume• Track your drinks throughout the day

Wishing everyone a happy, healthy and enjoyable Christmas. Be safe and healthy.

CHRISTMAS AROuND THE WORLD

This is the fact about me and my family. my real parents are Toby and Pippi. my dad is australian champion. my human parents are collin, the aussie Dad. He works at an age care facility and my mom Dares the lovely Thai lady is an early childhood educator. we are living on the coast, North of Sydney, australia. i am dad's first fur baby, my mom had lots of fur babies before in Thailand and the last one she had before moved to australiawas labrador name Bello and my name Bello Jr. is named after him. at the beginning my dad was struggling dealing with my nature, so most of the time mommy is the one dealing with me because she has something special called "patience" :) she told dad that dealing with children and dealing with puppies is not different. over time as i grew older dad has learnt more about labrador so he knows that "treat" is magical when he wants me to do something.

Tips

for

Hang

ing

Holida

Y Ligh

TSembellishing your yard with holiday lights is a cheery idea if you follow a few simple guidelines and precautions:

create a master plan. look at your house from the street or take a photograph to make an overall plan. first, consider adding lights along eaves, pillars, posts, windows, and doors to highlight architectural features. Next, look at bushes, trees, window boxes, planters, and paths. finally, check out lighting for paths, as well as stand-alone figures.

find balance. “everyone gravitates toward the roofline and they forget to balance it with something below,” says mike marlow, of Holiday Bright lights, a national chain that provides professional holiday lighting for homes and business. “it’s like interior design. you might have something on your room’s walls, but you need something on the shelves and the end tables too.”

consider the backyard. why should the front yard have all the fun? “we’re seeing people decorate behind the house,” mike adds. “it makes sense because they see the backyard more than the front.”

measure. Try to get a realistic measurement of how many lights you’ll use. one way to determine lighting for trees is to multiply the height times the width, then double that figure to get its square footage.

assess. check that lights and cords are in good repair and are rated for outdoor use. read manufacturer recommendations to determine the number of lights you can safely string together. Never connect different types of lights on the same circuit or outlet.

Power up. outdoor lights should be plugged into circuits protected by ground-fault-interrupters (gfcis). To avoid running cords everywhere, try power stakes—portable devices that bring power where you need it.

choose plastic. Trade hammer and nails for plastic clips that safely secure lighting to walls.

Stay safe. work with a partner or hang a bucket with an S hook to the ladder to hold supplies. when possible, use an extension pole to keep your feet on the ground. finally, don’t decorate trees that touch power lines. in short, avoid the technique employed by chevy chase in this classic clip from National lampoon’s christmas vacation.
