Midweek MovieThe Midweek Movie for Wednesday, Novem-

Determined to unseat Steve Finch’s reign as the town’s holiday season king, Buddy Hall plasters his house with so many decorative lights that it’ll be visible from space! When their wives bond, and their kids follow suit, the two men only escalate the rivalry and their decorating. It’s anybody’s guess whether the holidays will wind up jolly or jostled in this wild and woolly laugh-fest! This 2006 family comedy is 1 hour and 33 minutes long and will be shown at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel. Please note: The 6:30 p.m. Midweek Movie has been cancelled due to the Thanksgiving Eve Service at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel. Rated G.

Thank YouThanks to all who helped make our Autumn

Breakfast to Welcome New Residents a special time for our new Residents. It gave us the op-portunity to get better acquainted with those who have joined the St. Mark Village family in the past six months. The Dean Martin Christmas ShowCome to the Chapel on Monday, November 25,

at 6:30 p.m. to see The Dean Martin Christmas Show starring Lucille Ball, Jimmy Stewart, Tony Bennett, Red Skelton, and more. In 1968, Dean Martin round-ed up some of his favorite performing pals (39 in all) to join him in a memorable Christmas show full of song, dance, and holiday music. His two funny buddies, Bob Newhart and Dom DeLuise, teamed up for some of their best comedic routines. Bob Hope popped out of the closet. The entire cast joined Dean in a medley of Christmas carols. It’s a wonderful holiday show, with a lot of cheer and happiness as only Dean and his pals can bring about. This 1968 classic is 48 minutes.

Small cheer and great welcome makes a merry feast. ~William Shakespeare

Beachcomber and Christmas LightsJoin us for a dinner outing to the Beachcomber

restaurant on Clearwater Beach and a Christmas Lights Tour on Monday, December 9. The Village bus will leave at 3:20 p.m. Dinner will be “on your own”.

Heilman’s, a family-owned enterprise, is built on three generations of successful restaurant experience. Grandparents Ross and Elenora Heilman began the family tradition with their first restaurant in Lorain, Ohio, in 1920. Robert Heilman Sr. and Eva Nelle Heilman continued the legacy by founding Bob Heil-man’s Beachcomber on Clearwater Beach in 1948. Back then, Mandalay Avenue, which runs parallel to the beach and in front of the restaurant, was a sandy and unpaved road. From the start, this white table-cloth restaurant that was famous for its “Back-to-the-Farm” fried chicken, enticed customers near and far. Fire destroyed the 11-year-old restaurant in 1959, but Bob Heilman Sr. showed indomitable spirit in spite of tragedy. He immediately opened a dining room nearby and carried on business as usual during the eleven months it took to rebuild. Robert Heilman, Jr., President, Chief Operating Officer, and Owner since 1984, has continued the family tradition alongside wife Sheri. With his vast food and wine knowledge, he developed new menu creations and expanded the wine list. At more than seven hundred bottles, the list is now award winning and continues to grow with new and exciting wines from all over the world. Bob and Sheri’s passion for wine translated into the creation of their own wine label, FoxyRock, a Pinot Noir first planted in 2001 from their vineyard in the Willamette Valley with the current vintage available on the wine list.

After dinner, it’s off to see the beautiful array of Christmas Lights within the local Palm Harbor area. If interested, please sign-up beginning Monday, Novem-ber 25, by using the Activity Sign-Ups Lottery System.

‘Affairs from Afar’ by Mark Flotow“Managing Affairs from Afar” is a chapter title

from Mark Flotow’s new book, In Their Letters, In Their Words: Illinois Civil War Soldiers Write Home, from Southern Illinois University Press. On Friday, December 6, he will discuss some Civil War vocabu-lary (as found in soldiers’ letters), attempts to advise about the farms and businesses soldiers left behind, and maintaining personal relationships. Audience members are more than encouraged—in fact, need-ed—to read selected letter quotations and, in effect, be the voices of past Illinois soldiers as they wrote, or their family members at home reading aloud. Dis-cussion and questions will be encouraged throughout his presentation.

Want to know more about the book before the presentation? Please visit the book website at www.markflotow.net for information, news, and updates. Author, Mark Flotow, nephew of SMV Residents Ranell P. and Elmer H., will be our guest speaker on Friday, December 6, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel.
