Resident Calligraphy Instructor WantedCalligraphy (from Greek: καλλιγραφία) is a

visual art related to writing. It is the design and execution of lettering with a broad-tipped instrument, brush, or other writing instrument. A contemporary calligraphic practice can be defined as “the art of giv-ing form to letters in an expressive, harmonious, and skillful manner”.

What are the benefits of learning Calligraphy?

• Improves the mental health. It is Meditative and relaxing. It helps develops fine motor skills and memory retention. We cannot deny the fact that the lifestyle we all have adopted has some major distractions.

• Saves you money by doing it yourself. After learning this art of handwriting you will become independent in your own ways.

• Charismatic Effect.• Calligraphy is something you can learn at

any age.Calligraphy is an awesome hobby to adopt be-

cause it’s inexpensive, it’s creative and it can relieve stress. When you practice your letters, you’ll be able to concentrate on the activity at hand and other wor-ries will be pushed aside.

A Resident Calligraphy Instructor is needed to teach some classes on this art form in the Hobby Room twice a month. The maximum number of class participants is limited to eight Residents and is cur-rently full.

If you would like to Volunteer for the Resident Calligraphy Instructor position and teach the Callig-raphy Class, please call Ellen at extension 1743.

Visitors ReminderFlorida Governor Ron DeSantis has extended his

Executive Order of March 15th restricting non-essen-tial visitation in Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Centers to September 5th. With these restrictions in place here at St. Mark Village Care Center and High-land Lakes Assisted Living, our Independent Living Center will only allow essential visitors and visitors that are pre-approved through our daily Visitor’s Pass. If you have a need for someone to enter our building, you can arrange that in the Administration Office by obtaining a Visitor’s Pass. You will need to meet them in the Main Lobby by the Screening Desk and keep them with you at all times. Caregivers from a licensed agency (that provide care, i.e. medication assistance or showers) will not need a Visitor’s Pass from Administration but will need to continue to be screened at the Front Desk. Midweek Movie:The Love Letter

The Midweek Movie for Wednesday, August 12, is The Love Letter starring Kate Capshaw, Ellen Dege-neres, Tom Everett, and Tom Selleck.

Helen (Kate Capshaw) runs a bookstore in Loblolly By The Sea, a small fishing community in New England where everyone seems to know ev-eryone else’s business. A 42-year-old single mother, she is emotionally distant and fearful of getting too close to anyone. George (Tom Selleck) has known Helen since they were schoolmates, and he’s been in love with her for ages, but has always settled for just being her friend. Convinced she wasn’t inter-ested in him, he married another woman years ago. Helen also has another secret admirer, Johnny (Tom Everett Scott), who isn’t at all put off by the fact that Helen is twice his age. Johnny, however, is currently occupied with Jennifer (Julianne Nicholson), a fel-low student who also works at the bookstore and is crazy about him. Into this tangled web of unrequited love comes an amorous letter that Helen finds in the store one day. The letter bears no signature and no address; it’s at once passionate and oblique, fervent and cryptic. It’s very interesting stuff. So who wrote it? And to whom was the writer planning to send it? Before long, the letter has made its way through this circle, and everyone has an idea (or a hope) of who their secret love is, although no one knows for sure or just how to find out.
