A student’s safety and the safety of others are of extreme importance. Our Campus Safety & Security (CSS) Office is located
on the ground floor near Printmaking. The Campus Safety & Security department offers
many services and here are just a few you will need to know when you come to MCA:
STuDenT iD: All students, faculty & staff must wear their identification card while on campus. All entrances to the building
remain locked and access can be gained by using your ID card.
pArking DeCAl: All student cars should be registered with CSS. When you register your car, you will be given an MCA parking decal that is to be placed in the rear driver’s side window. This decal helps MCA personnel find a student in case of an accident involving his/her car, if lights are left on, or if a car needs to be moved for one reason or another.
SHuTTle SerViCe: CSS officers run a shuttle service to and from MCA housing and Rust Hall. The shuttle runs weekdays 8:30am - 8:50am bringing students from housing over to their classes. It also runs in the evenings from 6pm- 7pm from Rust Hall back to housing. On 24-hour nights, the shuttle runs every hour back to housing. Shuttle service to the Administration Building and Nesin Graduate Center.
pArking: The streets around the College are considered city property and are maintained by city police. You may parallel park on the curb around the College or perpendicular park where designated. The speed limit in the park is 15 mph.
PERSONAL SAFETY: Stay alert and tuned in to your surroundings. Always trust your instincts; if
you feel uncomfortable in a place or situation, leave and get help. Avoid talking on your cell phone
or doing anything that would distract you while you are walking to your car or are in unfamiliar
surroundings.
PEDESTRIANS: Choose busy streets and avoid going through vacant lots, alleys or other deserted
areas. At night, walk in well-lit areas whenever possible and preferably with a friend.
When using public transportation, be sure to have your fare out and ready before you leave
home. Plan your route to the busiest, best-lit stop possible, both to get on and off a bus. If you must
wait, stay near the attendant’s stand or in the best-lit area possible. Always keep your purse, backpack,
packages, etc. in your lap or between your feet and not in an empty seat.
DRIVERS: Always lock your car and take the keys, even if you’ll be gone only a short time. Keep your car in good running condition, and keep the tank at least one-quarter full. Lock your doors while driving or sitting in your vehicle. Park in well-lit areas if you are going somewhere after dark or must return to your car after dark. If you are carrying packages or valuable items, store them in your trunk or make sure they are not visible in the car.
Keep your car’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and a complete description including year, make, model and color along with your insurance company name and policy number in a safe place.
