Who is NAO?

NAO, a humanoid (像人似的) robot from France (法國), has become

a member of LKKB for a few months. The first NAO robot was invented (發明)

in 2006. The NAO robot in LKKB is in his 5th version. This interactive (互動的)

robot is a good partner for education and research.

What does NAO do? NAO is not simply a robot for fun. He can perform various tasks (執行各種不

同的任務). He can dance, catch objects, talk to students, tell a story, or even write.

NAO arouses students’ learning interest in class and motivates

them to get actively involved in learning through projects and

teamwork. He is an innovative (創新的) learning tool for

encouraging students to learn the basics of software programming.

Lifted If you like stories about aliens, Lifted would be a nice film for you. A young alien was having an examination

in which he needed to abduct a human. He tried his very best but in the end he still failed in the exam.

It was a short Pixar animation (彼思動畫) directed by Gary Rydstrom in 2006. Lifted was nominated (獲提

名) for Best Short Film (Animated) in the Oscars (奧斯卡) in 2006.

Review of Lifted By 4A Nicole, Chung Yi Mei

One night, two aliens (外星人) were on a spaceship (太空船). The younger alien wanted to abduct (綁架)

a sleeping human. There were so many switches (開關按扭) on the spaceship. He could not take control over the

switches. He tried many times to lift the human up to the spaceship but he could not. The examiner (考官) was

not good because he did not help or give hints (提示) to the young alien. The young alien wanted to cry but he

did not.

Although the young alien failed the examination and was sad, the examiner let him drive the spaceship

home. The young alien was so excited that he crashed the spaceship and the human fell into a crater (隕石坑).

I enjoyed watching this film because it was funny. The aliens looked very cute and the young alien did not

give up (放棄) easily.

Gary Rydstrom

Sanjay’s Super Team Sanjay’s Super Team is also a short Pixar animation directed by Sanjay Patel. Patel was born into a Hindu (印

度教的) family in America. Throughout his childhood (童年), he experienced the conflicts (矛盾) between the

modern world and the Hindu traditions (傳統). He liked watching cartoons like Transformers, Looney Tunes, etc.

He always found that it was boring to perform religious meditation (冥想).

Sanyay’s Super Team was nominated for Best Animated Short Subject in the 43rd Annie Awards (安妮獎) and

Best Short Film (Animated) in the Oscars.

Review of Sanjay’s Super Team 5B Alice, Leung Wai Lamm

I watched a great film, Sanjay’s Super Team. There were two main characters (主角) in this short video. They

were a dad and a son. The son was watching Super Team in the dining room while his father was praying. They

disliked each other’s activity. The dad wanted his son to pray in front of the Hindu Gods but his son wanted to

watch a cartoon. The dad suddenly turned off the TV. His son was upset and was asked to pray. When the son

was praying, something magical happened. The son saw the three stone statues (石像) in the room being

attacked. They then tried hard to defeat (擊退) the opponent (敵人) but they failed. He broke the superman toy

in his hand and the loud noise defeated the opponent. At the end of the film, the dad and the son were not angry

with each other. They lived happily. The ending was heart warming. This is my favourite short film!

LKKB English Newspaper Team conducted a survey (進行調查) about Chinese New Year, in

February 2016. The survey was done by asking our students randomly, questions about the festival.

We interviewed about 200 students from P.1 to P.6. The following are the results of the survey.

Figure 1 Figure 2

According to (根據) Figure 1 and Figure 2, 84% of the students like Chinese New Year. Watching

fireworks (看煙花) is the most popular (受歡迎) activity, followed by eating delicious foods, with seeing

relatives being the least popular. A lot of students thought that it was a boring activity.

Figure 3 Figure 4 Figure 5

56% of the interviewees (受訪者) told us that they would use their lucky money. 44% of them would save (儲

蓄) the money. For those who would use their lucky money, they would buy toys and games, food and some other

presents.

Figure 5 showed that over three-quarters (四分三) of the students thought 2016, the year of the Monkey,

would be a good year.

If Could Go Back in

A Radio Drama Script

The setting: In the Village

Part 1

N: This story is about a boy called Torres. He was a very selfish and greedy boy. Many people disliked him. One day,

when Torres was going home, a fairy appeared.

F: You are too selfish. Now, I will make you to go back to the past to let you learn how to be a good person. Only if

you can do it, then I will let you come back to the present. Ma-li MA-li home!

T: No! Ahhh!

N: Then Torres went back to the past and he was in a village. He woke up surprised.

N: He walked out of the house. Some people came and spoke to him.

TG: Hey! Do you feel good now? Yesterday, you were sleeping in the river. So, I let you take a

rest in my house.

T: Grandpa! What are you doing? Why am I here? And why do you look so young today?

TG: Who is your grandpa?

T: You!

TG: What? I am not your grandpa. I don’t know who you are. Here is the ‘Generous Village.’ All of our

villagers are very generous.

T: I come from the future. I want to go back to my world. You must help me!

K: How can we help you? How did you get here?

T: A fairy used a magic power to send me here. I was so greedy and selfish before so I think this is the reason why the

fairy used the magic power to send me here. Please help me to be good or else I can’t go back to the future!

TG, K: Okay! We can help you! We will help you become a generous person. Then, you can go back to the future.

T: Thank you very much!

TG: Tomorrow we will train you on this. Tonight you may sleep in my home.

Part 2

N: In the morning, his grandpa and a villager, Kelly, woke him up. They started to train Torres.

TG: Now we need to make some rules. If you break these rules, we will punish you. OK?

T: OK!

F: The first rule: When you get something, you have to share it with the people who live in this village.

TG: The second rule: You can just use the things that we gave you. You can’t steal things in our village or other places.

K: These are all the rules. Do you have any objections?

T: No, I want to go back to the future. I will do everything you ask me to.

N: Then, his grandpa gave Torres some delicious pork.

TG: This is for you.

T: Thank you!

N: Then Torres started to eat and his grandpa kept on laughing.

T: Why are you laughing?

TG: Because you have broken the rules so I can punish you now. Ha! Ha!

T: Oh! My! God!

N: Kelly locked Torres in a room that only had water and some plates.

T: What? There are just a few things here. How can I live here? But if I give up now I can’t go back to the future. What

can I do?

N: Torres was impatient so he looked out of the windows and he saw the people near his room had a big roast pig. He

wanted to steal it.

T: Ha! Ha! I can eat this, I am very lucky! Ha! Ha!

N: Then Torres started to eat the big pork and at the same time, Kelly came into Torres’s room.

K: Ha! You broke the rules again. Ha! Now I need to punish you.

Ha! Ha!

T: Oh my God!

Part 3 N: After a while, Torres wanted to give up and his grandpa came up to Torres.

TG: Hey Torres! Why do you look so sad? Are you sick?

T: I am not sick. I just broke the rules twice already so I am very sad now. I want to give up.

But I can’t. I want to go back to the future.

TG: You are right. So you can’t give up. If you give up, you can’t go back to the future. You must never give up.

T: Yes, I can’t give up.

N: After that, Torres changed a lot. He shared things with others and he did not steal others’ things…. Then, the fairy

appeared.

F: Hey! Torres, do you remember me? Now you are a generous person. Everyone likes you very much. You are not selfish

and greedy any more. You can go find the witch now.

T: Thank you! Can you kindly just send me back to the future?

F: Yes. I will make you go back to the future now. But you must promise me that you will not be greedy and selfish

anymore... OK?

T: OK! Goodbye Grandpa and Kelly and all of you! Bye!

F: Ma-li Ma-li home.

N: Then, Torres went back to the future.

Last Sunday, Matthew wanted to buy a cake for his sister

because it was her birthday. Matthew loves his sister very much.

He wanted to buy a cake as a present for her. He was

looking at a chocolate cake and a strawberry cake. He thought

the strawberry cake was cheaper but the chocolate cake was

more delicious. The most important thing was that his sister

liked chocolate very much. So he decided to buy the chocolate

cake.

He went to the cashier and told the shopkeeper which cake

he chose. He checked it, he felt satisfied. When he wanted to

pay for the cake, he could not find his wallet. He was shocked

and worried!

As it was nearly eight o’clock at night, the cake shop

needed to close. Matthew went home sadly. He cried loudly. His

sister asked, ‘Matthew, what happened?’ Matthew said, ‘Today

is your birthday. I planned to give you a surprise. I wanted to

buy a cake as a birthday present for you. However, I was too

careless. I forgot to bring my wallet. I could not buy the cake. I

was so stupid!’ His sister said, ‘My lovely brother, I am so

happy to have a brother like you in my life. You have already

given me a good birthday present. It is your love! Mum has

made a cake for me. Let’s eat the cake together after dinner!’

Finally, Matthew, his sister and his parents enjoyed the cake

together after dinner. They had a great time.

Sixty years ago, Hong Kong was very different from

today. Sixty years ago, people could only travel across

Victoria Harbour by Star Ferry. The airport was in Kai Tak

in Kowloon. It was smaller. Now people travel by train,

the airport is in Chek Lap Kok, and the airport now is

bigger.

Sixty years ago, people went shopping at markets.

Now, people go shopping in shopping malls. The games

children play are also different. In the past, children

played hide-and seek and flew a kite. Nowadays, children

play electronic games and computer games. Sixty years

ago, people had radios. Now, people have

digital cameras and mobile phones.

Rewriting the Three Wishes By 5A Yuki Chiu Sum Yi

Last summer holiday, Lala and her sister lived in a candy house near a cookies forest. Every day, Lala went into the cookies forest to get cookies.

One morning, Lala went to get cookies as usual. She was about to get a lot of cookies when a magical cat appeared and begged her not to get the

cookies and it would give her three wishes. Lala was very happy when she heard that. She came home happily.

Lala told her sister about the magical cat and the three wishes. Her sister was very happy. She thought that she would have a lot of teddy bears, a big

candy house and a lot of jewels… Both of them were very happy. Lala said, “I know we shall have a lot of things. But Just now, I am hungry. I wish I

would have some cupcakes for dinner.”

As soon as she said the words, a pan of cupcakes was on the table. Lala stared at the cupcakes. Her sister was very angry and she scolded Lala.

Lala felt sad. She wished the cupcakes could hang on her sister’s mouth. Suddenly, the cupcakes were hung on Lala’s sister’s mouth. Lala gave the

cupcakes a pull but they stuck. Lala used her last wish and wished for the cupcakes would be back on the pan. The cupcakes were back on the pan

eventually. Lala and her sister ate the cupcakes sadly.

The three wishes were gone. They were still as poor as ever.

My Dream Job By 6A Vincent Yim Tak Chun

My dream job is to be a doctor. I want to be a good

doctor when I grow up. Being a doctor is meaningful. If I

become a doctor, I will help sick people. The sick people

will be saved.

There are some job requirements. If you want to be a

good doctor, you need to fulfill these requirements. First,

you need to be careful when you do the operations for the

patients. If you are not careful, the patient will fall into

danger. Second, you need to be smart so that you can find

new ways to cure the illnesses. If you find some new ways

to solve the illnesses, you can help many people around the

world. Third, you need to be patient. It is because sometimes

you may do operations for a long time. If you are not

patient, maybe you will give up when you are doing

operations. As a result, you can’t save people.

If you become a doctor, you will earn a lot of money. If

you earn a lot of money, you can help sick and poor people.

It is a happy and meaningful thing to do so.

I think I am a suitable person to do this job. It is

because I am careful and smart. I need to do some

housework so that I can train myself to be more patient.

I also need to study hard in the future so that I can

learn more about different body parts.

I hope I can be a good doctor in the future so that I can

save people.

Yesterday was Karen’s birthday. Karen

received her pocket money from her mother. She

felt excited.

In the afternoon, Karen felt hungry so she

wanted to buy something to eat. She found there

was a hawker who sold fish balls near her home.

She bought some to eat. The food was tasty. She

ate a lot.

When she went home, her stomach ached

because she ate too many curry fish balls. She

told her mother that she was very sick. Karen’s

mother sent her to hospital. The doctor gave her

some medicine and told her not to eat food from a

hawker.

Dear principal,

How are you? We want to help World Vision raise

money for the poor children in Laos. The Laotian

people have many problems.

The people do not have enough food because the

fields are too dry and therefore people cannot grow any

plants. The people cannot go to school because Laos has

no money to build schools. The people do not have

enough clothes to wear because they have no money to

buy new clothes.

We can sell flags, sell raffle tickets, run a

second-hand stall or run a craft stall to raise money. We

could go on a charity walk too.

I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely,

Students nowadays may think that they should be allowed to bring mobile phones to school but in my point of view, I think they should not. There are a lot of bad things that can happen if students bring mobile phones to school.

Firstly, students may play with their phones in the lessons. Some students may say that they will only play mobile phone games in

recess time. However, when they have started the game, they may not want to stop when the bell rings. Secondly, students may talk on the phone during recess time. If there are a lot of students talking on the phones in the classroom, it

will be very noisy. The noise of students talking and mobile phones ringing will disturb other students. Thirdly, students may record video of the teachers. It is very impolite and not respectful to the teachers. If they record the students

punished by teachers and laugh at them, it is a kind of bullying. In conclusion, students should not bring mobile phones to school because students may be distracted from their study. Although it is

convenient to bring phones with them so that they can contact their parents anytime they like, it brings out a lot of problems in schools. Therefore, I think students should not bring mobile phones to school.

I believe that most students do not like doing homework and students these days spend a lot of time on homework every day. As a student, I think we should be given less homework.

First of all, doing homework makes students tired. It is because we have many pieces of homework to complete after the long school

day. Many of us spend a few hours on our homework and we do not have enough sleep. In addition, students will have no time to chat with their family if they spend most of the time doing homework. We even need to do

revision after doing homework. I do not think it is good for the whole family. Last but not least, a lot of students are short-sighted because of doing homework. Their eyes get tired easily but they do not have time

to take rest. Therefore, they need to wear glasses.

In conclusion, I think students should get less homework.

Right or Wrong? What are the pros and cons?

By 5A Shelly He Ling Ting

Lots of students have their mobile phones. Many of them want to bring their mobile phones to school but I think students should not be allowed to do so.

Firstly, students will be distracted. They cannot pay attention because the mobile phone games are very attractive.

Some of them may play the games in class.

Secondly, students will be proud of their trendiest mobile phones. They may bring their phones to school only to show off to the others. We are just students. We should not spend so much money on buying IT stuffs and the students who cannot afford expensive mobile phones may feel uncomfortable about it.

Thirdly, mobile phones have many different functions like photo-taking and video-recording. Some students may use their phones

to take pictures and record video of other students and even teachers without permission. To sum up, I think students should not bring mobile phones to school because of the above reasons.

I strongly agree that think students should get less homework.

Firstly, if students have too much homework, they will not have enough time to do the

things they like. For example, watching TV, doing exercise and playing musical

instruments. Students should have more time to do something to relax themselves.

Secondly, if students spend too much time on doing homework and have only a little

time for communicating with parents. This is not good for their relationships.

Thirdly, if students sit on their chair and do homework for a very long time, it is bad for their health. For example,

they will be short-sighted and they will get tired very easily.

Above all, doing too much homework is bad for students.

A lot of students want to wear casual wear to school but I think it is bad. Students must wear school uniforms to school.

To start with, school uniforms help the whole group to look neat and tidy. It is a symbol of unity and identification.

When you are wearing your school uniform, everyone knows which school you come from. It gives students a strong sense of belonging.

In addition, if students wear their own clothes, students from richer families may wear more beautiful and expensive clothes. They may

wear different clothes every day. They will show off to the poor students.

What’s more, different people have different styles. Some students may wear strange clothes to schools and make people laugh. It will

be difficult for students to pay attention in class.

To sum up, students should wear school uniforms to school.

Many students do not like wearing school uniforms. They think that school uniforms are uncomfortable and not

trendy. However, I think students should wear school uniforms to school.

Firstly, wearing school uniforms make students look neat, tidy and smart. If everyone wears different clothes,

the whole group of people will not look like a team.

Secondly, uniforms are a sign of identification because others can recognize us as students of our own school. If

we do not wear a school uniform, we cannot identify strangers from us in our schools. Sometimes, it can be quite

dangerous.

Lastly, we do not have to spend time choosing the clothes to wear every morning. If we can wear other clothes,

some students may spend too much time on choosing clothes. They will be late for school then.

In conclusion, wearing school uniforms is good for students.
