CAMPE DIEM!WE SEIZED THE SUMMER!!

Summer 2017 had a feeling like no other. It all started in pre-camp when the

leadership team arrived asking one question- how can we do it better? Then our

staff arrived with a special eagerness to learn and a strong desire to give our

campers a summer they would never forget. Every single member of our staff,

from bunk counselors and activity counselors to our dedicated support staff,

committed to our summer theme of “Campe Diem” by making the most of every

day and truly seizing the summer. After days of building our community, the buses

rolled in. The true magic and the reason we had all come together had finally

arrived. Opening day is one of my favorite days of the summer. I love welcoming

the new campers into the Walden family, and watching our returning campers embrace

them and show them the way. I love that our returning campers know what is expected

of them and become ambassadors of the culture we are trying to create. I love seeing

friends jump into each other’s arms, knowing for a short period of time they are in their

favorite place with their favorite people. Together in Summer 2017, we made memories

that will last a lifetime.

For me, the cool air brings new energy and excitement when we reflect, plan, and

prepare for Summer 2018. As all of our campers and staff work hard in school and their

various commitments, we are busily planning towards an even better Summer 2018. We

already have so many incredible staff returning and new ones who want to join in our

fun. The other day when I was driving, Miley Cyrus’ song “See You Again” came on the

radio. I couldn’t help but think of all of you dancing and singing in the dining hall, rec

hall and, of course, at our amazing Silent Disco parties. It immediately put a smile on my

face…I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE YOU AGAIN!!!

Let the countdown begin,

With Love from Mark, Jules, Michael and me

Camp Walden

THINK

- is it TRUE?

- will it make others HAPPY?

- is it INCLUSIVE?

- is it NICE?

- am I being KIND to others?#campwalden #think #kindness #camp4life

Dear Camp Walden Campers and Staff,

As many of you know, Camp Walden prides itself on being a community of individuals who treat each other with kindness, compassion and respect. Together, we work hard throughout the summer to create an intentional place where everyone feels safe, valued, and included. We feel it is important that the messages delivered throughout the summer are upheld not only while we are at camp but also during the 10 months when you return to your school worlds. We want to remind you of the meetings we had in our last couple days of camp, with staff and campers from all age groups, to discuss how to ensure campers and staff are demonstrating the “Walden Way” as they return to their lives at home- in particular when interacting on social media. We ask you to consider what you are posting, who you are tagging and how who does or does not get included in a group chat might affect someone else’s feelings. We also remind you that once something is posted online, you have very little control of who sees the post. We encourage you not to post pictures, videos or text that you would not want seen by your family, counselors or camp directors.

We want to remind you that it is important to treat each other with respect and kindness not only during the summer, but also during the school year. We ask all campers and staff to always THINK before they post…
