As a student from overseas, choosing the right college, course and qualifi cation is one of the most important decisions you will make. We are pleased that you are considering studying at Llandrillo Menai International. We know that you will have lots of questions. This International Study Guide, along with our website gllm.ac.uk/international, will help to provide the answers.

Llandrillo Menai International is part of one of the leading Government-funded colleges of Further Education in the UK, located in North Wales. We are consistently graded as one of the highest achieving colleges by Government Inspectors. Our students achieve great results and they rated us as the best college in Wales in the 2016 Government Student Satisfaction Survey.

We are the largest college in Wales, part of the UK, with 12 campuses and over 27,000 students studying a wide range of Pre-Degree and Honours Degree courses. One of our largest campuses in Bangor is close to our main university partner – Bangor University. Llandrillo Menai International holds a UK Visas and Immigration Sponsor Licence to recruit students from overseas.

Situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, Llandrillo Menai International campuses are within easy reach of Manchester, yet the beautiful mountains, lakes and beaches of North Wales are close by. Llandudno, the principal tourist resort of North Wales, is just minutes away from our largest campus at Rhos-on-Sea. There are a number of accommodation choices in the area, including homestay accommodation and private rented rooms and apartments.

The vast majority of our students are local UK students and we have a substantial number of international students across a number of different courses and campuses. Our international students are well supported by the International Team. We are very proud of their achievements and the next steps that they take following a programme of education with us.

Caring and supporting our students and providing an environment in which they will thrive and achieve is very important. The College is a past winner of the prestigious British Council Beacon Award for International Student Support. The Llandrillo Menai International team is here to help you in every way during your application process and whilst you study.

Year after year, international students enjoy their time at Llandrillo Menai International and gain entry to the university or career pathway of their choice after successfully completing their studies. They are happy to recommend the college to their family and friends after being part of our learning community. North Wales is a very friendly place to study and learn, and a number of students choose to stay in the area and continue their studies at universities in Wales.

Study takes place at Coleg Llandrillo or Coleg Menai, part of Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, one of the largest and best Government-funded colleges in the UK, offering competitive fees and scholarships.

Most of our international students study at our Rhos-on-Sea and Bangor Campuses on academic programmes such as A Levels, the International Baccalaureate or Pathways – Access to Higher Education programmes. If you choose to study English, then you will study at our Bangor Campus, located in what is known as the “City of Learning”. Here there are students from all over the world, so you can share experiences as you learn.

These two campuses are located on the coast of North Wales. This region is known for its beautiful mountain and coastal scenery and is very popular with people from all over the world as a place to visit. This also makes it a special place to study, where you can enjoy clean air and a healthy environment in a friendly, safe community.

There are endless opportunities to enjoy the area when you are not studying. Near to the campuses there are plenty of shops, supermarkets, sports centres, swimming pools, bars and restaurants to choose from. Nightlife options include a multi-screen cinema, bars and clubs. You could also visit the many tourist attractions or take part in a range of sports, including swimming, canoeing, horse riding, mountain biking, golf and football, or even try something more adventurous like Europe’s longest and fastest zipline or surfing at Surf Snowdonia, the world’s first public artificial wave garden.

North Wales has a temperate climate and it rarely gets very hot or very cold. Average temperatures range from 5°C to 25°C. May, June and July are the driest and sunniest months and it rarely snows, except in the mountains.

There is a main railway line running along the North Wales coast, so you can easily travel by train to many places throughout the United Kingdom, including London. The nearest international airport is Manchester.

At Llandrillo Menai International we offer a quality experience for every student. As we do not have hundreds of International students, your “study abroad” experience will be truly authentic and you will meet and make friends with many Welsh and British people.

Llandrillo Menai International has a great track record of helping students to achieve results. Of course, you will have to work hard at your studies. You will be taught in classes of UK students and perhaps several other people from around the world. Your teachers will have experience of working with students who do not have English as their first language. You will be given a Personal Tutor to advise you, and our International Support Team are very experienced in helping with any queries you may have. You just have to ask.

We offer a large range of study programmes at UK Level 3 up to Level 6, as well as English language training, short courses and summer schools. All these courses include support for improving your English language ability. At Llandrillo Menai International we think about your next study destination right from the beginning of your programme. We can support you with a range of information, advice and guidance from the moment of application right up to confirming your place at university or into the career of your choice.

Laura, from Colombia, came across our college whilst searching on the internet. She applied to study the Sciences pathway of Access to Higher Education. Laura was chosen as International Student of the Year due to her hard work, application and cheerful nature. She is now studying Marine Biology at nearby Bangor University.

Our fees are very competitive. When you total your tuition fees and living costs, you will see that studying at Llandrillo Menai International is very good value, particularly when compared to studying at a private college or nearer to London where the cost of living is higher.

With all the additional benefits, such as added English lessons, care and support, excellent results track record, affordable accommodation and local travel, campus facilities and social events, we give you an excellent package of study and UK life experience for the fees payable.

We publish a fees schedule every year which also details our scholarship opportunities for those with excellent ability. If this schedule is not included with this brochure as a separate leaflet, then please look at our website for current fees.

We send representatives to many countries so that you can meet us and ask us many different questions about your programme of study. We are able to meet parents, come to your school or see you at a “study abroad” exhibition during our overseas visits. This means you can experience the personal touch right from the outset.

What is there to do?

Dang Ngoc from Vietnam completed one year of A Levels instead of two, an option available in Wales, but no longer in England. For his second year of study he wanted to specialise in Business so took a pathway programme in this area. He now studies Logistics and Transport Management at Greenwich University in London, to help him play an important role in his family business back in Ho Chi Minh City. Dang says: “The teachers are absolutely fantastic. They really help you to do your best. Llandudno is a small, peaceful town with loads of amazing sightseeing and historical places near. If you are looking for excitement at the weekend you can travel to Chester, 1 hour away. I enjoyed staying with two hosts. They give you tips and experiences on how to live in the UK. Living with a host is an opportunity to help you improve your English and become more British.”

Summer Schools:Delivered at our Rhos-on-Sea, Bangor and Llangefni Campuses, we offer English language programmes. As well as English language, you can also choose from a range of themes for your summer school, such as innovation and creative thinking; digital arts; heritage and the environment; and renewable energy with the emphasis on fun practical activities, which help you to apply your English as well as learning about emerging global industries.

You can choose how long your short course needs to be. Most popular is a two-week programme, with a number of social and cultural trips and events included in the price. Most short courses include visits to London or Cambridge.

Programmes include a range of activities out and about in North Wales or the nearby cities of Liverpool and Manchester to enable you to practice your English skills.

Accommodation can be in hotels, university halls of residence or with homestay families. Transport will be provided for you whilst you are taking part in your Summer School or Lecture Programme.

More information:Please see our range of leaflets for up-to-date information on the individual programmes of study available and our fees and scholarships.
