Changing Routes to Professional Legal Qualification
• Qualification as a Solicitor - Substantive changes are proposed - from August 2021, anyone starting their route to qualification
(i.e. an UG degree) will be required to complete the Solicitors Qualifying Exam(s) (SQE) in order to qualify as a Solicitor.
- Those who are already studying a law degree can continue via the conventional route (i.e. LLB, LPC and training contract and a transition period of 11 years is envisaged.)
- The SQE will involve two exams. Part 1 will assess your functioning legal knowledge. Part 2 will assess your legal skills, following a minimum of two years qualifying work experience (QWE).
- For those wishing to qualifying under the SQE route, BU’s LLB will include a pathway to assist students in preparing for SQE Part 1.
