NSO-NCR Conducts 2012 Field Awards Workshop The NCR Regional office organized the 2012 Field Awards Workshop last January 12 and 13, 2012 at the MMLDC Foundation Center, Antipolo City. The workshop’s main objective was for the effective implementation of the 2012 Field Awards System in the NCR Regional Office and in all the six District Offices. Specifically, the workshop focused on the documentation requirements of the projects/activities under the identified Key Results Area: Production, Civil Registration, Partnership and Linkages, General Administration, and Information Dissemination. Deputy Administrator Paula Monina G. Collado and NCR Director Lourdes V. Homecillo served as the resource persons. There were a total of 20 participants to include Dir. Homecillo and the different statistician/DSOs from the Regional Office and the District Offices.

Launching Ceremony of “100% Birth Registration in Taguig City for 2012” NSO-NCR Regional Director Lourdes V. Homecillo and other NCR V staff attended the Launching Ceremony of the project “100% Birth Registration in Taguig City for 2012” last March 14, 2012 at the Taguig City University Auditorium. The NCR officials and employees witnessed the signing of the MOA between NSO and Taguig City as active partners for the implementation of the project. NSO Administrator Ericta and Taguig City Mayor Laarni Cayetano were the main signatories. Other partner agencies for the project include the Public Attorney’s Office represented by Atty. Persida Rueda-Acosta, Taguig Dep-Ed represented by Dr. Melida H. Polita, and Mr. Rommel B. Tanyag, Liga President and Chairman.

Results from 2010 Census of Population and Housing

The 2010 Census of Population and Housing Reveals the Philippine Population at 92.34 Million

The country's population increased by 15.83 million The total population of the Philippines as of May 1, 2010 is 92,337,852 based on the 2010 Census of Population and Housing. The census counts up to the barangay level were made official with the signing by President Benigno S. Aquino III of Proclamation No. 362 on March 30, 2012.

The 2010 population is higher by 15.83 million compared to the 2000 population of 76.51 million. In 1990, the total population was 60.70 million.

Population grew by 1.90 percent annually The Philippine population increased at the rate of 1.90

percent annually, on the average, during the period 2000-2010. This means that there were two persons added per year for every 100 persons in the population.

CALABARZON, NCR, and Central Luzon comprise more than one-third of the total population Among the 17 regions, CALABARZON (Region IVA) had the largest population with 12.61 million, followed by the National Capital Region (NCR) with 11.86 million and Central Luzon (Region III) with 10.14 million. The population of these three regions together comprised more than one-third (37.47 percent) of the Philippine population.

Cavite topped in population size Among the provinces, Cavite had the largest population with 3.09 million. Bulacan had the second largest with 2.92 million and Pangasinan had the third largest with 2.78 million.

Six other provinces surpassed the two million mark: Laguna (2.67 million); Cebu, excluding its three highly urbanized cities Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, and Mandaue City (2.62 million); Rizal (2.48 million); Negros Occidental, excluding Bacolod City (2.40 million); Batangas (2.38 million) and Pampanga, excluding Angeles City (2.01 million). The provinces with a population of less than 100,000 persons were Batanes (16,604), Camiguin (83,807), and Siquijor (91,066).

Four highly urbanized cities (HUCs) record more than one million population Of the 33 highly urbanized cities (HUC), four surpassed the one million mark. Three of such HUCs are in NCR: Quezon City (2.76 million), City of Manila (1.65 million), and Caloocan City (1.49 million). Outside NCR, only Davao City has a population of more than one million (1.45 million).

On employment unemployment and underemployment In the Philippines, the employment rate in January 2012, or the proportion of the employed persons to total labor force, was estimated at 93.6 percent. Among the regions, the National Capital Region (NCR) recorded the lowest employment rate at 87.8 percent. NCR registered a two-digit unemployment rate of 12.2 percent, the highest among the regions and higher than the national figure (7.2%). For the underemployment rate, the National Capital Region recorded 14.4 percent, lower than the national figure (18.8%).

CPI in NCR Consumer Price Index (CPI) is the percent change in the average prices of goods and services commonly bought by a group of consumers from the base period. CPI of NCR for the first quarter of 2012 registered an upward trend. From 122.8 in January 2012 the CPI increased to 122.9 in February 2012 and went further up to 123.1 for the following month. The inflation rate in NCR experienced an erratic trend for the first quarter of 2012. Inflation rate in January 2012 was 3.5 percent and decreased in November 2011 (2.3%) and increased in March 2012 to 2.7 percent. Purchasing Power of Peso (PPP)

registered at P0.81 for the first quarter of 2012.

BIRTHS: 2009 About three babies born every minute

There were 1,745,585 live births registered in 2009. The figure decreased by 38,731 or 2.2 percent from the 1,784,316 live births reported in 2008. An average of 4,782 births occurred daily which is around 199 births per hour, or three babies per minute.

The top three regions with the highest number of live births were in Luzon area. These are Region IVA - CALABARZON with 266,688 live births (15.3 percent of the total), followed by National Capital Region with 265,774 (15.2% of the total), and Region III - Central Luzon with 204,148 (11.7% of the total).

Crude Birth Rate declined by 0.8 percentage points

The Crude Birth Rate (CBR) decreased from 19.7 per 1,000 mid-year population in 2008 to 18.9 per 1,000 mid-year population this year. About nine (9) out of 17 regions in the country had a CBR value greater than the national CBR.

All regions decreased in the CBR value except for Region XI, where it increased from 19.3 in 2008 to 20.1 in 2009. The biggest decrease was in Region IX, from CBR value of 16.5 in 2008 to 14.2 in 2009.

Three out of four births are medically attended

Around three-fourths (74.0%) of the total births in the country were medically attended either by a physician, a nurse or a midwife. The percentage of medically attended births increased from previous year’s value of 70.9 percent.

More than half or about or four (4) out of the seven (7) births attended by health professionals were under the care of physicians (736,173 or 42.2%).

Four in every ten babies are born illegitimate

Around four in every ten babies were born illegitimate. This is about 711,079 or 40.7 percent of the total births recorded. Out of the total 711,079 illegitimate babies more than half or 64.6 are recorded in Luzon.

One for every ten births are born to teen-age mothers

About 195,662 (11.2%) live births were born to mothers under 20 years old. This means that one for every ten births was mothered by teen-agers.

On the other hand three out ten babies were sired by mothers aged 20-24. This proportion of births was the biggest among those were sired by mothers in 5-year age groups. The median age for mothers giving birth was 27.0 years.

Total number of approved building permits and value of construction decrease The total number of approved building permits in NCR decreased by 19.1 percent to 2,923 during the third quarter of 2011 from 3,614 of the same period of the previous year. Likewise, the total value of construction decreased by 44.3 percent to P13.3 billion during the third quarter of 2011 from P24.0 billion from the same period in 2010. Relative to the entire country, NCR contributed 11.6 percent to the total number of approved building permits and 32.1 percent to the value of construction during the third quarter of 2011. Value for residential type of building construction goes down The aggregate value of construction for residential type of building in NCR went down by 42.1 percent to P7.6 billion in the third quarter of 2011 from P13.1 billion during the same period of 2010. Meanwhile, value of construction for non–residential type of building decreased by 61.4 percent to P3.5 billion in 2011 from P9.1 billion in 2010. The total value for additions, alterations/repairs, on the other hand, increased by 25.5 percent to P2.3 billion from P1.8 billion during the same period in 2010. Single-type residential units records the highest number of approved building permits while residential condominium registers the highest value of construction Among the types of residential building, single-type residential units registered the highest number of approved building permits with 1,072 applications or 73.2 percent. On the other hand, residential condominium recorded the highest value of construction amounting to P4.3 billion or 56.1 percent of the total value of construction. Commercial type of building ranks the highest among non-residential building construction Among the types of Non-residential building, the Commercial type recorded the highest total number of applications with 204 comprising 51.4 percent of the total number and an aggregate value of P13.1 billion or 83.7 percent of the total value.

Employment Situation in NCR (July 2011 Final Results)

Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR) in NCR increases in July 2011 For the entire country, the LFPR increased to 64.4 percent in July 2011 from 63.9 percent during the same period of the previous year. Similarly, the LFPR in NCR increased to 63.0 percent in July 2011 from 62.2 percent during the same period in 2010. Comparative labor force counts and LFPR for the Philippines and NCR for July 2010 and 2011 LFS rounds are shown below. Employment Rate in NCR registers to 89.1 percent

The employment rate of the country in July 2011 reached 92.9 percent, lower by 0.1 percentage point from the same month of the previous year. In NCR, the employment rate remained at 89.1 percent in July 2011 as in year ago figure.

More than half of the employed persons in NCR are males In the July 2011 LFS round, Philippine male population dominated the employed workforce. Of the 37.1 million employed persons, there were 60.6 percent employed males compared to 39.4 percent employed females. Of the 4.5 million employed persons in NCR, 56.5 percent were males.

Services Sector employs more than three quarters of the total workforce in NCR More than three quarters (79.9%) of the 4.5 million employed persons in NCR in July 2011 were employed in the services sector while 19.3 were employed in the industry sector. The remaining proportion was employed in the agriculture sector. Similar trends were observed in the July 2010 LFS round. Laborers and unskilled workers comprise the largest group of employment in NCR In the July 2011 LFS round, laborers and unskilled workers comprised the largest group of employment in NCR at 23.1 percent. Officials and employees of government comprised the second largest group at 17.5 percent, while service workers came in third at 15.2 percent. NCR Unemployment Rate records 10.9 percent in July 2011 The unemployment rate in the country increased to 7.1 percent in the July 2011 LFS round from the 7.0 percent of the same period of the previous year. In contrast, NCR’s unemployment rate reached 10.9 percent, similar to the July 2010 figure.
