Herd Dispersal for Nith Valley LimousinWelcome to the Nith Valley Limousin Dispersal in conjunction with the Western Select Sale. The Nith Valley herd was founded in 2011 with the purchase of 2 x mama cows from the Anchor B Dispersal in Saskatchewan. Although relatively new to the Limousin world here in Canada, I was no stranger to the breed and we always had Limousin cattle of some capacity whether commercial or pure bred back in Scotland, keen to establish a herd here in Canada the Nith Valley herd was born and aptly named after the area I grew up in in Scotland. With busy day jobs and the herd being based in Manitoba at my brother’s farm, the emphasis has always been on developing quality females and over the past few years we have been adding new breeding lines from well known and established herds throughout Canada. You won’t have seen us on the show circuit, but instead we focused our time and resources on building up a nucleus of quality females. Some bulls have been sold privately off farm and the rest of the male calves were typically sold commercial unless we felt they were good enough to keep as bulls. The decision to have a dispersal has not came easy and up until a year ago would never have been on the cards, but life has taken an unexpected turn for Lyndsey & I and with an opportunity to return to Scotland and start a new chapter we unfortunately have to let our girls go.... but every cloud has a silver lining and we feel this is a great opportunity to pass on some great breeding females that will fi t in well with any purebred program. Meanwhile for us, we will have a short ‘pause’ on keeping cows as we settle in to our new life and although not being able to predict the future entirely, one thing I do know is that it will contain a few Limos! We were fortunate to secure our Stock Bull on a private deal

from Richmond Ranch and this Zodiac son has gone on to

perform way beyond what we could have hoped for. He’s

very easily fl eshing and has been our main herd Bull up

until we retained heifers for breeding. He has never ran with

more than 20 cows each year and walks on sound feet &

legs, he should have plenty more breeding years left in him

I blew the budget the day I bought Betty Boop, but she

was the fi rst ever black Limousin I bought and it was one

of those “had to have her” moments. She’s the way I like
