The parent consultation meetings will begin during the week of 30th November 2020 and they will take place via telephone. We are allocating 20-minute time slots for every parent to speak with class teachers via a telephone to discuss their child’s progress and learning priorities for the term. Next week every parent will receive a link to the survey to indicate the best day and time to speak to the class teachers. Please complete the survey and return it by Friday 20th November 2020.

In Parrot class, as part of celebrations and festivals, we have enjoyed some activities for firework/bonfire night. We enjoyed listening to the song Fireworks by Katy Perry and making rockets. We rolled card to make a cylinder, drew around a circle and cut it out to make a cone, developed scissor skills whilst cutting thin rectangles and joined each part together using sellotape to form the rocket. We then had fun throwing our rockets to see how high and far they would go.

To make the night sky exploitations we did an activity involving skittle sweets. We did not eat them but we really enjoyed their smell and different colours. We positioned the sweets in a circle, observing and naming the colours, created a pattern, poured water in the middle using jugs and observed the changes as they happened. After we had created beautiful patterns we then turned the sweets over to explore what had happened to the colours and identify what colour they were now.

Today is Children in Need (Pudsey Bear) Day and Wimbledon class have had lots of fun making a Pudsey bear and then decorating biscuits with white icing and smarties to match Pudsey Bears bandana. Most of the time they showed good self control by not eating the icing sugar or the smarties before they even made it onto the biscuit, but of course there are always a few who couldn't help themselves!

Remembrance Day

In the Harris Centre students listened to the story of remembrance. We experienced sights, sounds, stories and poetry about World War 1 and World War 2.

We all helped to create different types of displays of poppies and one student brought in some work he had created at home to share with his friends in the Harris Centre.

Human Rights

Minerva 1 have been studying the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Here is what a few pupils had to say on the topic.

Hear ye, hear ye. My name is Ben and I now declare everyone at Linden Lodge to have the right to your own things. You have the right to own a bag, a coat, and some spare clothes. You have the right to have your own water bottle. You have the right to have your own lunch. No one should take your lunch without asking. You have the right to own a speaker. You have the right to own a Zoom Recorder. You have the right to have a laptop. You can share your Hot Chocolate, or not share it if you don’t want to. Remember Linden Lodge, you have the right to your own things, and to own your own things!

The right to play.

Imagine a world where no one was allowed to play. It makes you sad. Playing is really important because it makes you happy and helps get you ready for your next lesson. Playing is really important so you can learn other things because you are joyful and motivated. Remember, everyone has the right to play.

“Freedom of Expression” is a human right. We all have the right to make up our own minds, to think what we like, to say what we think, and to share our ideas with other people. It’s good to make up our own minds and to have our own say in what we want to do. Within Linden Lodge, we all have the right to take lessons like RE, RSE, Art, Music, Humanities, Food Tech, Mobility, and we have the right to free time to play with our friends at lunch times. I feel free to express myself and think what I like in these lessons and while I’m with my friends. You have the right to tell someone how you’re feeling and it’s really good to tell someone. It makes me feel calm when I can say how I feel. Freedom of expression is an important human right.

A reminder that we have lots of exciting events lined up for Linden Lodge families for the rest of the academic year. Please get involved where you can, we know how hard lockdown is proving for everyone but we hope we can still get everyone together online.

UP NEXT:

SUPER SCIENCE EVENT FOR BROTHERS AND SISTERS SUNDAY 22 NOVEMBER We currently have over 10 children signed up for our SH@LL science and drumming event! If you would like to be a horrible slimy chemist or an angry sticky scientist, sign up now for your personalised scientist name and a place at the event run by Mad Science: https://east.madscience.org/ . The flyer on the next page that the kids them-selves have put together has all the details.

QUIZ NIGHT FRIDAY 27 NOVEMBER Our friends at 7th Heaven Quizzes are hosting a Zoom quiz night on Friday 27 November, with money raised going to C@LL. Get a team of up to seven together and have a lockdown laugh. All families and staff and friends of the school are welcome to join. An Eventbrite link to join the quiz will be in next week’s newsletter. COMING UP:

CHRISTMAS DRINKS THURSDAY 10 DECEMBER We’d love to say we’ve booked a pub but as events have conspired against us our Christmas celebrations will be online this year. Save the evening of December to don your Christmas jumper, get online and share a drink and a chat. We’d love to see as many parents, friends and staff as possible. Jingle, jingle.

FINANCIAL ADVICE SESSIONS FOR LINDEN LODGE PARENTS WEDNESDAY 17 MARCH We have arranged two Zoom sessions with specialist lawyer Philip Warford Managing Director of Renaissance Legal. Philip specialises in trusts, wills and deputyships for disabled children. He explains simply and clearly the processes around subjects which parents and car-ers can find daunting but which are so important for our families.

The first session will take place on Wednesday 17 March between 10am and 11.15am and will concentrate on Wills and Trusts for families of disabled people. The second session will be about acting on behalf of a disabled person when it comes to health and finances. Please see the flyer in last week’s newsletter for details of the first session.

Have a great weekend, From your C@LL committee
