LM -Syntette story of the original D ual-G racey

In the late 70-ties Sw edish dentist Leif Ericsson,

the H ead of the Periodontological D epartm ent

in Västervik H ospital, w as challenged w ith the

com plexity and the am ount of instrum ents there

w ere available for the periodontal specialists.

C ouldn’t there be an easier w ay and a sim pler

instrum ent, he thought.

A sim ple thought

H e started looking at the design and function

of different instrum ents and got the idea to com bine

tw o popular instrum ents w hich, how ever, required

sw itching instrum ent in the sam e interproxim al

space: G racey 11/12 for m esial surfaces and G racey

13/14 for distal surfaces. A synthesis of tw o curettes –

a Syntette!

Meeting on the train

The idea turned into a sketch on a paper - that ended

up in a draw er. Later som etim e in the 80-ties, he w as

standing in a crow ded suburban train in Stockholm

on the w ay back from Sw edental D ental C ongress.

B y pure coincidence he m et the m an standing beside

him , dentist Pekka Kangasniem i, founder of LM-

Instrum ents. They started discussing the idea and the

double sided G racey, i.e. LM-Syntette w as created.

An all round instrum ent for all surfaces in the total

dentition, w hich can be easily shifted from tooth to

LM-EndoMax R eam ers

LM-R eam ers have loosely tw isted and flexible triangular cross-section instrum ent

blades. The instrum ent is prim arily designed for the apical preparation of straight

canals, w hich is w hy the blade can also be used for cutting. For this

instrum ent, a rotating preparation m otion is the m ost effective.

LM-EndoMax K -files

LM’s K -Files have an extrem ely flexible triangular profile blade. The larger cutting

angle enhances instrum ent use com pared to a sim ilar square profile instrum ent.

Preparation w aste can also be rem oved from the canal m ore easily, because

there is m ore room in the instrum ent threads. The threads are tightly spaced and

the tip is sharp, m aking the instrum ent ideally suited to the preparation of straight

canals using filing and rotating m otions. Sm all sizes (006 - 015) can also be used in

preparation of curved canals. A short, back-and-forth preparation m otion is m ost

effective for the instrum ent.

LM-EndoMax N iTi Files

The m aterial used for N iTi files differs from that used for K -files, w hereas the file

form is the sam e on both. N iTi (N ickel-Titanium ) is an elastic m aterial, w hich w ill

return to its original shape after bending or deform ation. The instrum ent tip is not

used for cutting, w hich m akes LM N iTi instrum ents ideal for the preparation of

curved canals. B oth a filing and rotating preparation m otion are suitable for these

instrum ents.

LM-EndoMax H edstroem s

The blade on LM-H edstroem files is m illed instead of tw isted like on other root

canal instrum ents. Especially w ell suited to procedures w here space is m ade

for the root canal orifice (coronal flare). H edstroem files are only intended for use

w ith filing, back-and-forth preparation m otions.

“I use the LM-Slim Lift instrum ents currently for nearly all extractions. I also use

m y older preferred luxating instrum ents w hile the use of the traditional ones has

becom e less frequent.

LM’s thin luxating instrum ent can enter even particularly narrow periodontal spaces.

W hen w ide instrum ents are used, the luxating force is spread over a w ider area to

the sides and deeper tow ards the tip of the roots so that the fracturing risk

of the fragile roots, in particular, is lim ited considerably. The m ajority of extractions

can be perform ed w ith luxating instrum ents w ithout any need for any other

operative m easures.

The design and m aterial of the LM-Slim Lift instrum ent m ake it possible to get an

excellent grip on the instrum ent. At first touch, the handles m ay even feel too big

but in clinical w ork I have noticed they fit the hand perfectly. The instrum ent can

be held either on the palm of your hand or held only w ith your fingers.

It is easy to pick a suitable instrum ent for any clinical need from the broad size

selection. The w ide blades are appropriate for the extraction of the low er m olars

w hile the narrow tips are perfect for instance for the extraction of the narrow roots

of the upper teeth.

I can recom m end the LM-Slim Lift instrum ents for all dentists: it m akes sense

to abandon the old and poorly functioning instrum ents altogether. Too often you

hear of cases w here the treatm ent of the root has taken close to tw o hours.”

control and saves tim e by reducing the handling of individual

the personnel. Its versatile m odules keep all instrum ents and

accessories organised in a single tray. The system is adaptable

to treatm ent speci#c and individual needs.

A ll m odules have a universal design w ith standard dim ensions

and are not m anufacturer specific. They are m ade of exceptionally

durable special plastic w hich tolerate all com m on cleaning and

sterilisation m ethods and agents (m ax 134 °C / 273°F).

In LM-Servo cassettes hand instrum ents are locked

securely but rotate freely for optim al cleaning and

guaranteed infection control. The cassettes can

be coded w ith silicone code buttons and attached

The follow ing w arranty term s apply to the sale of LM-Instrum ent O y’s products (hereinafter “Products”) to a purchasing com pany

or individual by LM-Instrum ents O y (hereinafter “Manufacturer”).

Manufacturer hereby w arrants that the Products w ill be free from defects arising from faulty m aterials or w orkm anship for a

period of tw enty four (24) m onths from the date of purchase by a custom er from Manufacturer’s authorized dealer (hereinafter

“Authorized D ealer”). The w arranty period is exceptionally three (3) m onths for products w ith a life inherently shorter than 24

m onths due to norm al w ear and tear, for exam ple tips of hand instrum ents, tips of ultrasonic scalers, tips of endodontic files,

front surface m irrors and grinding stones of sharpening devices.

This w arranty shall not apply to Products or parts thereof;

a) w hich have been subject to abuse, m isuse, negligence or accident or are not connected to proper pow er supply;

b) to w hich any m odification, alteration or attachm ent has been m ade w ithout w ritten consent of the Manufacturer; or

c) w hich are installed or operated violating instructions for installation, use and m aintenance;

d) w hich are norm ally consum ed in operation for exam ple w orking tips of LM-MultiH older, strips for LM-C ello.

The sole and exclusive rem edy under this w arranty shall be lim ited to correct or circum vent the errors or to repair or replacem ent

of defective parts of Products by the Manufacturer, EXW Manufacturer’s factory, providing that a w ritten claim of the defect is

sent to the Manufacturer w ithin the w arranty period and the original part is returned to Manufacturer’s factory by the Authorized

D ealer, and Manufacturer’s inspection establishes the existence of such a defect.

The custom er m ust contact the A uthorized D ealer from w hom the products w ere purchased to request repair or replacem ent

under this w arranty and a w ritten claim of the defects and send the original P roduct to the A uthorized D ealer.

This w arranty is void if service or repair is perform ed by persons not authorized by the m anufacturer.

Any Products not m anufactured by the Manufacturer, carries only such w arranty, if any, as given by any m anufacturer thereof.

This w arranty is the Manufacturer’s only w arranty in respect of the Products and the Manufacturer disclaim s all other w arranties,

w hether of m erchantability, fitness for particular purpose or otherw ise, guarantees and liabilities, express or im plied, arising by

law or otherw ise. In no event shall the Manufacturer be liable for any general, consequential or incidental dam ages, loss of use

or loss of profits by reason of the m anufacturer’s negligence or otherw ise in connection w ith the sale, delivery, installation, repair

or use of the Products.

The Manufacturer shall have no liability w hatsoever to the Authorized D ealer or custom er or any other person for or on account

of any injury, loss or dam age of any kind or nature, sustained by, or any dam ages assessed or asserted against, or any other

liability incurred by or im posed upon the handling, use, operation, m aintenance or repairs of Products by anyone other than the

Manufacturer. This exclusion of liability does not apply pursuant to the law s on product liability in case of personal injury and

property dam age to privately used objects resulting from the Products.
