LM6 Radar Loudness Meter is available in Audio Units, VST, AAX, AudioSuite and RTAS

plug-in formats. No additional hardware such as Pro Tools TDM or PowerCore is

needed - all you need is an iLok2 USB Key for holding the plug-in l icense.

In short, you can use LM6 with hosts such as Media Composer, Final Cut Pro X, Pro

Tools, Logic Pro, Nuendo, Wavelab, Sequoia, etc. on a Mac or PC and whether your

productions are in mono, stereo or 5.1.

Because LM6 is designed for demanding hosts such as Final Cut Pro and Media Composer, we have

paid special attention to 'sleeping beauty' functionality.

Therefore, it works great even in environments restricted by screen space or by CPU resources. In

other words, you can leave it on at all times for a quick overview without compromising computer

performance.

LM6 features two Universal Descriptors, by which the entire loudness

'landscape' of a program, film or music track can be precisely characterized.

The left descriptor shows Loudness Range (LRA) which measures the averagedistance between soft and loud parts in your program material in LU.

The right descriptor shows the all-important Program Loudness parameter.

Depending on which broadcast standard you have to conform to, there is a certain target level that you must not exceed - and Program

Loudness reflects that number in LUFS or LKFS.

You can also decide to have these descriptors diplay other parameters such as 'max loudness' or 'sliding loudness'.

O f f l i n e M e a s u r i n g

If you use it in Pro Tools as an Audio Suite plug-in, you can even benefit from the off-line function and measure the loudness of your

audio faster than real time.

Below, you can see how off-line measuring works with AudioSuite. Note how the tracks get measured much faster than real time and

how the radar display reflects the overall loudness landscape almost instantly.

Also, even in offline mode, a log file of the measurement results is created for your documenting needs.

MainPresets and main parameters such as descriptor settings (e.g. Loudness Range,

Program Loudness, Sliding Loudness, Loudness Max, etc.) are found on the Main Page.

You can also define whether you want to display LUFS or LKFS. The two parameter

values are in fact identical, but some standards prefer the use of LUFS (such as EBU

R128), while others prefer LKFS (auch as ATSC A/85).

Setup

You will find detailed parameters on the Setup Page. For instance, you can define the

destination of the logging file and adjust the Peak Indicator.

Further, you can set details about how the Radar should operate. The speed of the

radar is adjustable between 1 minute and 24 hours. This would also be the place to

set the Momentary Loudness Range.

Gain a complete statistical overview on this page. LM6 keeps track of detailed stats

that you can save to a standard formatted text file for documentation and evaluation.

The most dazzling feature of the LM6 is the large radar

meter that performs a revolving wipe, showing average

loudness over a long duration. It can be set to span as short as a

minute or as long as a day. The decibel resolution can be

adjusted to cater to the needs of the particular project. Certainly,

watching trends and deviations in this way rivals any other

system yet devised for long-term loudness metering, especially

when referencing the meter during tracking situations. Rather

than looking back and forth between Pro Tools waveforms and

the plug-in, the radars interpretation of the waveform paints a

clear enough and meaningful picture on its own.

TC Electronic has been on the forefront of doing the

science, developing standards and designing a long line

of hardware tools to measure accurately, audio loudness over

time. The LM6 Radar Loudness Meter plug-in, now for any DAW

platform PC or Mac, displays true-peak warnings and true-peak

bar graphs and conforms to all major broadcast standards. LM6

measures up to 5.1 channels of audio program loudness and

provides a graphical histogram of their dynamic range over a

pre-determined time period from 1 minute to 24-hours. In Pro

Tools 10, I use the AAX version of the LM6 plug-in across my

stereo bus to track and locate peaks (overs) when mixing music.
