8th graders to take the stage There will be 59 - 8th graders participating in a school sponsored play December 2 and 4. There are twenty student actors and actresses while the other 39 have chosen to help with lights, curtains, hair and make- up, ticket sales and public relations (PR), and the highly coveted position of student director. “This play is an opportunity for our 8th graders to decide if they would like to participate in drama and forensics in high school,” said 8th Grade Language Arts Teacher Mrs. Conrad. The students will be performing the comedy dinner theater, “Her Lips are Sealed” at the Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on December 2 and 4. Tickets will be sold for $10 a piece for the dinner theater performance on December 2 and $7 a piece for the matinee on December 4. All proceeds will go toward the purchase of eReaders (handheld computers used for reading books and novels) for the students in Mrs. Conrad’s Language Arts class. This play is set in New York City in the 1940‘s and is about the unexpected murder of event coordinator, Hedda Parsewood. Working hard to solve the case is two-bit detective, Samantha Spaed. Everyone is depending heavily on her to find out “who done it”. Will she be able to find Hedda’s murderer? Is it Misty Shores, snotty Broadway starlet? How about her gangster boyfriend, Pretty boy Barnes. Perhaps it is choreographer, Jean Astaire or Jimmy the Weasal, Pretty Boy’s faithful sidekick. Come join the cast and crew for an entertaining evening of murder, mayhem and the opportunity to guess who killed Hedda Parsewood. “Her Lips Are Sealed” ORANGE CRUSH Always Free ISSUE NO. 2 PTO News - The annual LMS PTO Cookie Dough Fundraiser is set to run from October 24 - November 7. LARNED MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS/OCTOBER, 2011/VOLUME 01

LMS Student Council

Mrs. Holaday has many things to say about what is going to be happening in October for the student council world. All students have been taking Math, Reading, and Language Usage - MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) tests. They should be finishing really fast. The reason students must do these tests is to show the teachers how their students are performing on basic knowledge skills for that grade level and to help them plan for what students need to know before the year is over. The Larned MIddle School Student Council has been preparing for the annual Fall Carnival. It will be a night of Halloween fun on Saturday, October 29 from 6:30- 8:30 pm in the Larned Middle School gym. For admission in to this event you must bring box tops, a Campbell Soup label or items for the Humane Society. You can dress up if you would like and there will be a really cool haunted house in the gym. Finally, the school store will be open at the end of the 9 weeks for kids who earn Indian bucks. Some cool stuff that will be in the store will be; candy, pencils, erasers, notebooks and other

neat school supplies. So save up your Indian bucks!

The designated drop off area for all 7th and 8th grade students is on the West side of the building

Tribe Students of the Month Each month students from each grade level are recognized for positive random acts. Teachers and staff keep their eyes peeled for things like random acts of kindness, making eye contact when someone is speaking , always being respectful and always turning in homework. At the end of each quarter all students who have received a Tribe Student of the Month Award are eligible for drawings for things like gift cards, iPods and even iPads.

This month’s Tribe Students of the Month include; De’Shaun Clark, Carl Parker, Camry Snyder, Kody Meaol, and Johnathon Herler. Not present for the picture is Dalton Barker.

There are specific pickup and drop off areas for all Larned Middle School students who are picked up and/or dropped off by their parents. We respectfully ask that all pick up’s and drop off’s happen in the designated areas only for the safety of our students.

The designated drop off area for 5th and 6th grade is on the South side. We ask that parents please do their best to not hold up the buses if there at the same time.

HALLOWEEN FUN/NIGHT 6:00

Mrs. Wagner’s 7th Grade Science Classes get many opportunities to learn what scientists do in labs every day. “We have done several labs to support the scientific method,” reports Mrs. Wagner. In each and every lab that students participate in they are required to type their lab report following a specific format. In their lab report they must follow the key parts of the scientific method:

1. State the Problem 2. Form a Hypothesis3. Steps of the Experiment 4. Record Data Gathered5. Form a Conclusion

Students have also been practicing safe lab procedures and learning the names of the different equipment used in labs. For instance, one lab taught students the correct way to handle and use a microscope. Students were able to view and draw brine shrimp eggs under the microscope. There is also a terrarium and aquarium set up as an ongoing lab for students to make observations of the various interactions that take place in the ecosystems in each container.by news staff - Kamber Corpening

Mr. Wrinkle

From coach Stokes a football perspective

by Dakota Stevens

Coach Stokes is happy with

the LMS Indian Football

undefeated streak . . . not

impressed. He said to be

impressed would mean he did

not expect his team to win

and that it would be a surprise

if they did, so he wants to say

he is HAPPY with the 4 and 0

win loss so far this season.

Stokes went on to say he

always expects his team to

try their hardest to win! He

uses this quote during

practice, “What does it take to

win? It takes team work and all

that good stuff, but what does

it take to not lose? You have to

play with class.”

Stokes said the new plays

the Indians ran during their last

game worked out great. “We

are not going to work on a lot

of new plays. Two new series,

that’s it. We already have

almost 40 plays to know,” said

Coach.

A big thank you to

Mrs. Kimi Bowman for

the great pictures!
