Faith Comes FirstNurturing students in their faith is the primary mission of Lutheran North. Our students are surrounded by

people who find great joy in helping them grow closer to their Savior. Everyday students hear a Christian

message and worship the Lord in chapel. Teachers and students pray together at the beginning of every

class. The Bible is the basis for all spiritual instruction and students take four years of theology as part of

the curriculum. Our campus pastors, administrators, faculty and staff model Christian behavior and approach

conflicts with a spirit of forgiveness. Turning to Scripture when facing challenges, worshipping and praying

together, and working side-by-side to serve people in need are daily practices at Lutheran North.

Christian EduCation ChangEs LivEsA leader in Christian education, Lutheran churches in the United States operate more schools than any other Protestant denomination. In Saint Louis, secondary education began in 1946 when Lutheran High School opened at the old Mary Institute building at Lake and Waterman in the city. By 1954 studies revealed a need for a school in northwest Saint Louis County. Ten years later in 1964, Lutheran High School North opened its doors at Lucas and Hunt Road. For more than 40 years Lutheran North has changed lives by offering Christian secondary education in the community. With generous support from sixty-three churches that comprise the Lutheran High School Association, over four thousand alumni and donors, and a multi- million dollar endowment, Lutheran North is prepared to uphold its reputation for excellence for generations to come.

our Community mattErs When you choose a high school, you choose a community where your student will spend four very important years learning both academic and life lessons. The community at Lutheran North is one that embraces diversity and values the similarities and differences we have as individuals. United by faith in Jesus Christ, students build relationships with people who may not look or live the same way they do. Our graduates tell us the diverse learning environment at Lutheran North enriched their lives and made it easier to transition to college and the workplace. With a convenient location along Interstate 70, the school is easily accessible from any part of the city or county. Come and experience our community. It’s something special.

studEnts sErving othErs is a priority Lutheran North is a community that cares for its friends and neighbors. Students make a difference by volunteering their time to help people in need. As part of our graduation requirements, students must give sixty hours of service to the community and many cheerfully exceed this expectation. For one day each semester, students work in area food pantries, soup kitchens, inner city churches, day care centers, elementary schools, hospitals and other organizations as part of a school-wide Faith in Action program. Students experience the joy of sharing their time and energy to make a positive impact.

We care about our community and embrace the diversity and individuality of our students.

ChaLLEnging CoLLEgE prEparatory CurriCuLumLutheran North students rise to meet a challenging college-prep curriculum. A faculty of lifelong learners and master teachers share their passion for knowledge with students. Small class sizes and block scheduling provide an environment where innovative teaching methods and student participation thrive. With school-wide technology integration and a well-equipped media center, teachers and students have access to information and learning resources from around the world. Students who qualify can earn college credit while in high school through Advanced Placement (AP) and Advance College Credit (ACC) courses offered in partnership with St. Louis University.

intEgrity is EssEntiaL to LEarningAt Lutheran North we believe that true learning depends on honesty. All students sign an honor code promising to complete all homework, tests, papers and projects without cheating, stealing, lying or tolerating an act of dishonesty. Students learn to take responsibility for their actions and develop the discipline necessary to plan for and achieve goals. Students are expected to think for themselves and express original ideas. Respecting different points of view is encouraged in our student-centered learning environment.

pLanning for a Bright futurEOver ninety-six percent of Lutheran North graduates attend college. As early as freshman year, students begin to explore career options. By graduation, they have developed an educational plan for college and beyond. Experienced counselors target universities that meet the educational needs and campus life students are seeking. The Counseling Center schedules meetings with college representatives on campus and sponsors trips to visit college campuses throughout the school year. To take the mystery out of applying for college, our counselors meet with parents, help students with the application process and offer assistance finding scholarships. Due to high student achievement and the ongoing work of the Counseling Center, an average senior class of 85 students will be offered over 4 million dollars in scholarship awards. Lutheran North is a member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and complies with its Statement of Principles of Good Practice.

We prepare lifetime learners who will share their knowledge with the next generation.

outstanding faCiLitiEs for outstanding programs Due to the generous gifts of many Lutheran North friends and alumni of Lutheran North and Lutheran Central, we have recently expanded our outdoor athletic facilities. The addition includes two new soccer fields, a baseball field, a softball field, a football practice field, a baseball/softball practice field, a new football stadium and an eight lane all-weather track. Above the football field and track is a pavilion housing a concession stand, restrooms, storage, press box and filming/spotting platform. Through the addition of its new athletic complex, Lutheran North added twenty-seven acres of space for sporting events and parking.

putting thE fun in fundamEntaLs During the summer months, the Lutheran North campus is filled with grade and middle school students who participate in the Crusader Summer Academy and Sports Leagues. Our coaches teach students the fundamentals of the sport and everyone meets players from other schools. Summer leagues and camps are a great way for prospective students to get to know the campus, coaches, teachers, and make new friends. The emphasis is on participation and building skills.

Band is Big Over thirty percent of our students play in the Maroon and Gold band. Our outstanding band program offers two levels of concert band as well as jazz band. Students perform at football games, churches, community events, and annual concerts. The top concert band goes on a band tour and competes at the district and state band festival. Lutheran North band students consistently achieve number One and Two ratings at the district and state level. A strings group has recently been added to the program. Committed to the fine arts, Lutheran North sponsors an elementary band program for area schools offering bi-weekly beginning band classes to students in grades 5-8.

voiCEs raisEd in songThrough the choir program, voices, music and lyrics share the message of God’s love and salvation to others. Students are trained to perform together and learn skills to become well-rounded singers. The concert choir sings in chapel and travels to participate in worship services. A student-led Gospel choir praises God through song. All choirs participate in spring and fall concerts.

aCt onE, sCEnE twoThespians at Lutheran North work as a team to produce a fall play and spring musical each year. Students are involved in every aspect of the production: auditioning, acting and rehearsing, set design, props and construction, costume and makeup, lighting and sound. From well before curtain rises to the final bow, students collaborate to make every show memorable. Students participate in Metro Youth Shakespeare, a program of the Shakespeare Festival of St. Louis.

apprECiating thE artsThe art curriculum challenges students to express themselves creatively. Students learn to appreciate art and its rich history. Use of traditional media and computer technology to create images is part of the program. Drawing, ceramics, and painting, are just a few of the ways students explore shape, color, texture, lighting and composition of the subject matter. Lutheran North graduates have received scholarships in the arts.

Friends for a LifetimeNo one will argue the importance of strong relationships during the high school years. At Lutheran North, students build friendships that often last a lifetime. Learning how to interact socially is a skill that we help students develop during their high school years. Our extracurricular clubs offer students many options

for involvement beyond the classroom. We have something for everyone.

growing togEthEr in faithStudents grow in their faith through organizations like Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and through the efforts of the Peer Ministers group. Students are involved in Bible study and work together on service projects. Peer Ministers help with new student orientation, lead small group chapels and serve as role models every day. Students pray and study God’s Word together and rely on each other for Christian advice and support. Two full-time campus pastors are available to minister to the spiritual needs of students.

parEnts wELComEWith the days of classroom parties and field trips a distant memory, parents can begin to feel left out of the high school experience. At Lutheran North we encourage parents to stay connected and involved in school activities through parent groups called Crusader Circles. Families are grouped into Crusader Circles with other parents to get acquainted and get involved with the Boosters Club and activities like Project Graduation and teacher appreciation. Parents build relationships while being a visible presence in their students’ lives. Any time of the day or night, parents and students can access assignments, current grades, or contact an instructor through the school website.
